Our Wonderful Inquiry Work

Oliver Jeffers

Oliver Jeffers class have had a great first week back at school. We are learning about festivals and celebrations as part of our inquiry this term and have spent the week reading a lovely book called Little Glow. We have also spoken about the significance of Remembrance Day and have made our own tissue paper poppies. We are making good progress with our phonics and have been reading and writing CVC words this week - Miss Hartung has been very impressed!

Walt Disney

In Walt Disney class, we have been spending some time engaging in new activities. We have been learning how to speed stack with Mr Paton. We had so much fun doing this and were able to use 12 cups to make a large stack!

We have been reading our new book 'The Great Kapok Tree' and have been learning about new animals. We had the opportunity to do some hot seating to ask the main character some questions about some events that have happened in the book. As a class, we really enjoyed being able to act as different characters and imagine how they would be feeling!

We have also been learning lots of new, fun spelling games to help us learn our spellings. We had a competition in class to see who could spell the homophone the quickest!

Marcus Rashford

This week has been an exciting week for Marcus Rashford class as we have started our RE module based on Christmas. The children have loved talking about the Christian faith and their beliefs and had some very interesting questions. During one of our RE lessons we played pass the parcel, the children would open the box and answer a question about RE or the activities that take place during their Christmas at home with family when our Christmas song 'jingle bells' would pause. The children were excited to share their Christmas fun.

We are lucky at Peninsula East to have access to chromebooks in our class and we are able to access a range of apps in class. The children were introduced to Jamboards during our Inquiry lessons, where they had to post a post-it note to answer some questions based on the learning that will be taking place this term. At first the children were finding this tricky but as soon as they grasped how to post their ideas, they were all keen to write their responses and requested that we do Jamboards more often.

School information

Busters Book Club

Congratulations to Helen Sharman class who read a total of 556 minutes this week. Please remember to bring your bookmarks in every Thursday so we can continue to count your reading minutes. There will be prizes in the future for those classes who have read for the most minutes per week.

Remembrance Service

On Thursday, Reverend Gwilt visited us to lead on the Remembrance Service in school. We reflected on the importance of the day and had a two minute silence to honour armed forces members who have died in the line of duty.

“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.”

Children in Need

We will be supporting this next Friday 18th November. The children can wear their own clothes and wear spots on their clothing into school. If you would like to donate to his great cause then please visit https://www.bbcchildreninneed.co.uk/

The role of being a reflective learner at PEPA

As part of the inquiry journey at PEPA, we create and enhance opportunities for all of our children to reflect on their learning. This is a key element of their learning process as it allows them to recall and consolidate their learning whilst thinking about how to apply this in new contexts and situations. In doing so, we are able to create inquisitive learners that can reflect on their own understanding and think critically about the wider world and things around them.

We have opportunities to reflect throughout the school day, week and even term. We use reflection tickets as a way for children to individually reflect on a piece of work that they are particularly proud of, they will complete the tickets as often as they wish, whilst thinking about the subject areas they have covered, skills they have used and learner attributes they have needed to complete their learning. In the younger years, they communicate their thoughts and reflections using pictorial representations of the learner attributes. At the end of every term, we also have an assembly to share the inquiries of each class as an opportunity for children to reflect on their learning and that of their peers.

Planting at the Church

On Tuesday, our older School Council Representatives enjoyed an afternoon at All Saint's Church. We worked with Jenny and Stephen to plant some fruit trees as part of their sensory garden. Next time you visit the church, you might want to take a look at this lovely new area in their grounds.

Future Hoo Workshops

On Wednesday, we were pleased to welcome the Future Hoo team from Medway. Kevin, Claire and Stacey worked with our KS2 pupils to explore how the Hoo Peninsula may develop in the future, and we considered the importance of protecting wildlife and development of the roads and rail networks. Thank you to the team for these workshops, and also for our lovely wooden pencils and badges!

LAT Primaries TTRockstars Top of the Rocks Tournament Module 2

After a great success last year, we are pleased to announce that KS2 will be taking part in the LAT Primaries TTRockstars Top of the Rocks Tournament Module 2. This is a competition against other local primary schools within the Leigh Academy Trust. The children will have the opportunity to play in school however please do allow your child to play at home, if possible.

The competition starts on Thursday 17th November 2022 at 8:30am and will finish on Thursday 8th December at 3pm. Good Luck KS2!

Medway Food Bank

Can you help us with our Reverse Advent Calendar this November please?

The items that we currently need are on the attached calendar sheet, with details of where to purchase and donate. If you would prefer to deliver directly to our warehouse, or really need your donation collected, then please contact our office Tuesday to Friday by phone (01634 757057) or email (info@medway.foodbank.org.uk) with details and to book a delivery slot.

You can use our Reverse Advent Calendar throughout November in any way you choose. Some use it as one of our normal ‘shopping lists’ of items that we need, and select one or two items to buy and donate this November. Some groups or families buy an item or more for each of the 24 days of the calendar, and then donate them all towards the end of November. We recognise that things are tough financially for many people this winter, so please only donate if you can afford to do so.

Items will be used well into 2023 so long ‘best before dates’ are good.

It is also worth pointing out that all donations are always split up into individual items to be used in our normal food parcels, with us adding in Christmas items in December. We do not give out whole donated ‘hampers’, so please do not worry about wrapping or boxing-up or decorating your donations – in fact, it is much easier for us if you do not.

We would ask that all Advent calendar items are delivered to us by the end of November so that we have time to use Christmas items in our parcels during December.

If you are unable to help us with collecting food but are able to donate funds, we would be very grateful as we are facing huge increases in running costs. Funds can be donated via the red ‘Donate’ button on our website: www.medway.foodbank.org.uk

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR ONGOING SUPPORT
