Our Wonderful Inquiry Work

Banksy

This week, Year 2 have dived into the Line of Inquiry 'Keeping healthy'. We learnt about the healthy eatwell plate and which type of foods we need to keep our bodies strong and healthy.

Banksy Class had lots of fun in our English lesson where we taught 'aliens' what a healthy lifestyle is.  We showed the aliens how to exercise, eat healthy foods and to make sure you get 12 hours sleep!

We have started to collect information for a non-chronological report on 'How can we stay healthy?'.  Firstly, we learnt the key features of an informative text and then we chose key facts and sentences that we think are the most exciting and important.

David Attenborough

This week, Year 6 have been continuing their learning of the Maya civilisation. They have researched different Gods and written character descriptions about them, they also have explored the Maya number system which was quite tricky to understand as it's very different to the numbers we use today!

Alongside our inquiry into the Maya civilisation, we have also been enjoying our Science learning around the Circulatory System and observing how our heart rate changes throughout different activities. We are also very excited to take part in a heart dissection next week!

In our Writing unit, we have continued reading Pig Heart Boy by Malorie Blackman which the class have been really enjoying. We wrote a diary entry in the role of the main character, Cameron and are now working on a newspaper report!

European Day of Languages

What a fantastic day we had on Monday 25th September for promoting languages! Every year we celebrate European day of languages, a day to celebrate those who speak a different language and a way to promote linguistic diversity. In the afternoon, the children travelled to a European country to learn all about their culture. During this time the children were able to learn some basic phrases as well as complete an activity such as colouring in their flag and writing. The children all enjoyed their time and had a lot of amazing things to say and were heard saying their learnt phrases to their friends as they came back to class.  At the end of the session the children were then given a bookmark!

Macmillan Cake Sale

Thank you to everyone for your support in either sending in or baking cakes to sell and raise money for the Macmillan Cancer charity. We don't have a total to share just yet but we will be able to share this early next week.

Our Head boy and girl and deputies ensured that the cakes were displayed and sold to all classes, they did a fantastic job! We hope that we have raised just as much or more than last year.

Year 5 & 6 Youth Unity workshop

On Thursday 28th September, Year 5 & 6 were visited by James from Youth Unity who came to speak to the children about staying safe, especially now they are growing up and have access to mobile phones and walking home alone!

The workshop also focused on every young person being treated fairly and as a unique individual regardless of factors such as age, gender, race, religion, ability or background.

The children enjoyed hearing 'Josh's story' and joining in to help make decisions about what he should do and he should turn to.
