Well done to Year 5, who yet again have 100% attendance! I think Year 5 have won most of the termly prizes for attendance throughout the year so far and even in remote learning! It would be great if the other classes could try to get the same attendance as Year 5 as our attendance isn't as strong as in our first week back across the schools.

Marvellous MyON Challenge RESULTS 5th March

Did you know that this week 373 books have been read?? FANTASTIC!

A huge shout out to Captain Sir Tom Moore class with 96% accessing MyON.

Congratulations to Amber M for reading 14 books this week!

As a school, can we read or listen to 400 books next week?

How many pages can your class read in a week?

Will you be the MyON reader of the week in your class next week?

Science Week

This week the children have all explored inquiries linked to science and have been tasked with many fun and collaborative investigations, including building a raft and exploring how many counters it would take to sink it, designing a lab coat, researching and creating a paper bridge and investigating whether it would still stand once weight was added to it and also thinking about innovating ideas for science in the future. All of the children have had a fab week and it has been great to see so many of them looking like scientists with their lab coats and working together in teams or pairs whilst exploring their inquiries.

Beatrix Potter Class being risk-takers when exploring whether their rafts would sink or float on the water.

Helen Sharman class have enjoyed being inventors this week. We have made rafts and bridges and then tested them to see if they work when weights have been added.

Sir David Attenborough Class have been communicators, testing out paper aeroplanes that they had made outside on the playground.

Charles Dickens Class designing their lab coats and working together a inquirers as to whether their bridges would be strong enough to hold cubes and seeing how many they would hold and not collapse.

Dame Kelly Holmes class have been planning and designing a raft in Year 3. They planned a fair test to see which raft would hold the most weight. Communication and Open-Mindedness took place as the children listened to each others' ideas. After testing raft one they reflected on their design and built raft two. Had they taken a risk to change elements of the new design? Of course, raft two was much more successful.

Jane Goodall class carefully designing and making their paper rafts to test out on the water and showing their thinking when creating an invention that would be innovating for the future.

Captain Sir Tom Moore class being knowledgeable and open-minded when explaining what they thought would happen to their rafts and predicting how many counters it might take until the rafts sink.

Will Adams Class researched different types of bridges before building their own. They were knowledgeable when recreating the surface of the planet Mars. They explored differences between Mars and Earth as well as considering whether humans could ever live there.

All Saints Church, Allhallows

Our schools are very lucky to have the opportunity to be working with Allhallows Church as part of their 'Jewel in the Marshland' project which is project from the Lottery Heritage Fund. Our original plan was for several classes to visit during the building works at the church and have a guided tour with the project's architect, Karen Butti. However, due to the current restrictions, the children were sadly unable to do so. Instead, Charles Dickens class and Dame Kelly Holmes class had a virtual tour and a chance to talk to the architect about what she does in her role. They prepared some questions beforehand and these were answered in the virtual session. Karen also shared some photographs and plans of her work at the church. The children were also very fascinated by the bats that were living in the rafts of the church building. Please look out for a further article in the local Allhallows Life magazine in the April edition. We look forward to working with Jenny Glanfield, the Heritage Engagement Officer, in the future as more exciting opportunities develop with the project.

Mobile Phone reminders

We know that some of our year 5 and 6 pupils may carry a mobile phone with them to school if they are walking to and from school alone. We understand the safety reasons behind this but would appreciate that during the school day that pupils hand in their mobiles to the office in the morning and then retrieve them from the office before walking home as they should not have access to a mobile phone throughout the school day. I will ask the teachers to remind the children and the mobiles would be stored in a locked cupboard during the day. Thank you
