This week, we have been looking at The Easter Story and discussing how we can cope with sad feelings. We thought about how memories help us to remember people and pets who have passed away and wrote about our own experiences. We then linked this to The Easter Story and sequenced the events leading up to Easter Sunday. After that, we thought about what Christians believe happened to Jesus when he was in the tomb and why it is important to them.
We also checked on our bean plants that we planted last term and they are growing nicely.
Roald Dahl Class
This week Roald Dahl class have been looking at what plants need to survive and grow. We know that plants need soil, water, sunlight and the right temperature but we have been working scientifically and decided to put this to the test. We have planted 4 seeds, one without water, one without soil, one without sunlight and one without the right temperature which we will go back to in a few weeks to observe our findings. What do you predict will happen to each of our plants?
Beatrix Potter Class
Beatrix Potter Class have settled back into school really well after half term and they have come back ready to learn for Module 4. This module's theme is ‘How we organise ourselves’, where we will be exploring and inquiring into the world of jobs, what adults do in their jobs and how our behaviour impacts others. We started off by discussing what the word ‘organise’ means, the children had some brilliant ideas of what being organised means to them and what being organised looks like at home and at school. On Wednesday, we were really lucky to have Mrs Jacobs come into class to discuss her job and how her job helps to support us as a school. We looked at some of the tools that she uses as well as discussing what jobs she does and how that has an impact on our school day. The children really enjoyed listening to Mrs Jacobs, as well as asking her lots of questions about her job. During this module we are looking forward to having lots of visitors who will come and discuss their job and their job role with us. We have also started to think about which jobs we would like to do in the future. During our inquiry time, we have been encouraging lots of independent writing, using our phonics skills. The children have been drawing and writing pictures of what they want to be when they grow up as well as writing thank you cards to Mrs Jacobs for taking the time to come in and talk to us. It has been lovely to see how well the children are now using their phonics knowledge to write for a purpose, as well as thinking carefully about their letter formation.
In phonics this week, we have started the second half of unit 2 sounds. At the beginning of the week we learnt the ‘ai’ sound as in ‘snail’ and ‘rain’. At the end of the week the children learnt the ‘y’ sound as in ‘yak’ and ‘yell’. The children have been brilliant at remembering all the sounds that they have learnt, as well as learning new sounds and working on reading and writing words with these sounds in.
Beatrix Potter Class, you have had a super first week back, well done!
SCHOOL INFORMATION
Rochester Night Light Lantern Parade
We were so pleased that many of our year 5 pupils and siblings attended the Night Light parade in Rochester on Friday 11th February. Mrs Rimmer, Miss Theobald, Miss Goldfinch and Miss Zeuli also attended. The children proudly carried their wonderful lanterns through the High Street and enjoyed all of the fantastic music and lights that were featured as part of the parade. It was a lovely experience for all and some of our children have even been lucky enough to keep some of the brilliant lanterns that they made. We are proud that we could be part of such a fantastic, local event.
Healthy Year Pledges
In school, we know it is very important to try and make healthy habits to support our health and wellbeing. In class we have all had a conversation about what these healthy habits could be and have voted on some that we would like to try to achieve. Each class has then created a classroom charter from the NHS ‘Change for Life’ programme. We look forward to seeing the children achieve these goals during the academic year.
Volunteers needed!
Could you help us? Do you have any time to spare?
We are looking for parent volunteer readers that are DBS checked if possible. If you do not have any form of DBS, please check with Mrs Fenner or Mrs Dyke as they may be able to organise something with HR.
Inconsiderate Parking
We are still experiencing very inconsiderate parking at the school, we have had our neighbours complaining that people are parking over their driveways at drop off and pick up times. Please be aware that our neighbours are taking registration plates and reporting these to the council or 101. Parents are also driving into the school and parking at collection times which is unsafe for the parents and children being collected. If we continue to see parents using the staff/visitor carpark, we will have to start closing the gates again at drop off and pick up times.
Safer Internet Day
On Tuesday, 8 February 2022 we celebrated the 19th edition of Safer Internet Day alongside actions that were taking place right across the globe. With a theme of "Together for a better internet", the day encourages everyone to join together to make the internet a safer and better place for all, each one of us has a role to play in creating and maintaining a better online world, especially for our children and young people.
The children enjoyed quizzes, videos and a various of exciting activities in all aspects of online safety. Here at PEPA we constantly embed e-safety throughout the year with feature days for deeper understanding.
