This term, we have inquired into the UK as an island and identified human and physical features of the UK. We have made comparisons between the UK and other islands around the world such as the Galapagos islands. We have used google maps to explore the Galapagos islands and the animals that live there.
Did you know: The Galapagos Giant Tortoise can grow as tall as a car!
We then found out about Charles Darwin and the discoveries he made on the Galapagos islands, and how he realised animals adapt to their environment. We have researched different animals from around the world and identified how they have adapted to live in their environment.
Fun Fact: An Arctic hare has brown fur that turns white in the winter, so it is more difficult to find in the snow.
Greta Thunberg Class
This term, we have been looking at the life cycles of humans, animals and plants. We compared these life cycles, exploring what was the same and what was different. We wrote an explanation about frog life cycles and used words like… 'First, Next and Then' to help us with our writing.
After that, we looked at a bean life cycle and read the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and then the next story, Jim and the Beanstalk. We wrote descriptions about what Jim could see at the top of the beanstalk.
We recently set up a plant growth experiment to see if a bean will grow in different conditions. We can’t wait to see what will happen.
Captain Sir Tom Moore Class
In Year 5 this Term, we have been exploring the natural world and it’s adapted habitats. Through this inquiry, we have looked at how the world can be organised into different sub sections such as: Biosphere, Biome, Ecosystem, Community, Population and Individual. With a focus on an Alpine Biome, we have been able to contrast and compare two different areas of our planet, the Alps and the Andes Mountains looking specifically at their features such as: climate, vegetation, tourism and location. The children have enjoyed exploring their inquiry through different transdisciplinary lenses and with an art outcome showing the Alpine Biome we have been inquiring about.

Top of the Rocks Tournament Module 3
This module, KS2 took part in the TTRockstars LAT Primaries Top of the Rocks competition. I am pleased to announce that we came 6th place out of the 13 LAT primary schools, who took part. I'd like to say a big well done to all children for their great efforts and for being risk-takers when completing their questions. Again, it was lovely to see the children enthusiastic about maths and times tables.
The top 3 highest scoring classes were J.K.Rowling, Alan Turing and Captain Sir Tom Moore.
The top 3 most valuable players received certificates in our assembly, Teddy L, William H and Harrison A.

Mrs Rimmer's Cookery Club
It was the last session of cookery club for our year 5 and 6 pupils this term and to finish it off, they made delicious pizzas with various healthy toppings and even got to take them home in pizza boxes that they designed. All said that they enjoyed the club and had learnt new skills that they could use at home. They also enjoyed eating their pizzas for dinner that evening.
