Our Wonderful Inquiry Work

Steve Irwin

In Year 2, we have been exploring habitats around the world and how animals and humans depend on each other. The children used agency by choosing which habitat they would like to focus on and researched them by using their chrome books to find information.

We have read the book 'Grandad's Island' and have just started to read 'Esio Trot' as these texts both align with our theme of animals and habitats. We have been writing our own stories based on Grandad's Island, and wrote setting descriptions about the jungle in the story.

Lewis Hamilton

In Year 4, we have been exploring the function of the water cycle. We conducted our own experiment recreating a water cycle in a bag, we then wrote a set of instructions so that we can share this information with others for them to have a go too! We have been using the book ‘Wind in the Willows’ as this aligns with our theme of rivers and natural resources, we have been writing our own narrative based on the characters within the text.

In French, we have been learning how to recognise, read and say the names of animals and which pets we have. We have really enjoyed working with Mr Rudkin to do this, we have even been practising having conversations with each other.

We also were lucky enough to have some parents to join us for Maths on Friday morning. We were using Maths Manipulatives to explore dividing numbers, we enjoyed having our adults in to help us do this and to demonstrate how we use manipulatives to help us solve problems and to understand the principles of mathematical operations.

Buster's Book Club

Busters Book Club is a programme designed to help children become motivated and engaged with their reading. An essential element of the programme is that children are encouraged to read what they want to read and anything counts! It is great to see that so many more children are developing a love for reading across the school by using our Busters Book Club programme.

Congratulations to Julia Donaldson class for the most improved reading minutes this week!

Congratulations to our Star readers of the week who has exceeded their reading minutes and have been awarded a Busters Book Club badge!

School information

MYG Swimming Gala

Last week, 8 children in Year 6 had the opportunity to attend them MYG Swimming competition. All of the children had a fantastic day demonstrating the skills which they have learnt in their previous swimming lessons. The children were all able to comment on how much of a fun day they had and they wish they could do it all again!

PYP Afternoon

On Monday afternoon, we invited the parents and carers of our children in Nursery, Reception and KS1 for our PYP Open Afternoon. During the afternoon, the children shared some of their most memorable experiences and learning that they have been involved with over the last two terms. It was brilliant to see children and their families come together to celebrate the learning that has taken place and for them to share this together. As an IB World School, we are always looking for ways to incorporate everyone within our learning community and we know that the children enjoy doing this too!

Our next PYP open event is for KS2 on Monday 6th February at 2.30pm.
