Our Wonderful Inquiry Work

Julia Donaldson

This module's transdisciplinary theme is How the World Works. Looking through the concept lens of Change and Perspective we have been looking at:

Change – How do friendships change when we have a disagreement or an argument? How can we change our feelings to forgive after a falling out?

How do the properties allow us to change a material? Can we bend it? Squash it?

Perspective – Why is the material used to make an object suitable? Which is the best choice of material?

The children have started to analyse the objects and materials within their everyday lives to gain an understanding of their properties and uses. The children already discovered those objects in our classroom can be sorted into groups of human-made or natural. Basing some of our writing on the analysis of these. We will be continuing to investigate and use materials in different ways.

The children have also been looking at the seasons through our PE curriculum and using dance. We started by looking at the season of Winter which was linked to the winter sport of ice dance. The children used a video of an Olympic ice dancer to inspire their own series of balances and movements working individually, in pairs and small groups.

In our writing we are using the key text of Old Bear by Jane Hissey. The children have been working on the skills of writing a character description, using their agency to choose their favourite characters. We will be using more Old Bear stories as we go through the Module.

Helen Sharman

This module we have been learning about how we impact on the habitats of other animals around us and how we could make some changes.

We used the concept of reflection and responsibility looking at:

Reflection: What can mankind change to help our environment?

Responsibility: What inventions could be made to make a more eco-friendly future?

Helen Sharman class have researched ideas and other inventions that could help save the planet. During this module, we investigated the various different habitat around our local area. Finding that there are a vast amount of living things that call our school home.

The children have been reading Floodland by Marcus Sedgwick. This looks at a future where the world has flooded and one girl, called Zoe, is searching for her parents. From this the children wrote a letter as the character and a diary entry that describes the various events in her life.

School information

Busters Book Club

Busters Book Club is a programme designed to help children become motivated and engaged with their reading. An essential element of the programme is that children are encouraged to read what they want to read and anything counts! It is great to see that so many more children are developing a love for reading across the school by using our Busters Book Club programme.

Congratulations to Steve Irwin class for reading a total of 417 minutes this week!

Congratulations to our Star readers of the week who has exceeded their reading minutes and have been awarded a Busters Book Club badge!
