Our Wonderful Inquiry Work

Captain Sir Tom Moore Class

This week in Captain Sir Tom Moore Class, we have been exploring inequality and how this can be experienced by different groups of people. We have carried out a ‘Skittles’ experiment to try and demonstrate how groups of people can be treated differently based on stereotypes.

We will be taking this learning and applying it to the historical events of the Suffragettes but also, more recently, the experience of those who founded the Black Lives Matter movement.

Pepa Tots

This week we have been learning about Autumn/Hibernation and have been using our senses to explore outside. We have been listening to environmental sounds and looking at different colours and shapes of leaves. We collected lots of leaves on our 'Autumn Walk' for our hibernating hedgehogs in our classroom. Even though it was a lot of sticks and leaves, we did have lots of fun exploring. We especially loved throwing lots of leaves into the air.

As November is the perfect time to learn about thanksgiving and thankfulness. On November 24th we will be opening doors to our parents to “Stay and Play” celebrating Thanksgiving and Hanukkah at 2pm. We look forward to seeing you all!

INFORMATION

Book Fayre

It was great to be able to have the Book Fayre in our school hall again and it was very busy!!! We are pleased to announce that we raised our highest amount ever at £656.80! This is an amazing achievement and it means that we can now order some books for our children to use in school. Thank you so much for supporting this and we hope that the children enjoy the new books that they have purchased.

The Daily Mile

You may be aware of concerns around physical inactivity and childhood obesity. As they go through primary school, many children put on weight and, across the UK, around 35% of pupils in Year 6 are categorised as overweight or obese. In addition, many 10-year olds lack basic fitness. In order to support the children’s fitness levels and their wellbeing, we will be starting the Daily Mile in KS1 and KS2. The Daily Mile is physical activity which has been proven to improve children’s health and wellbeing. Children go outside for 15 minutes, at least three times a week, and jog or run around the playground averaging a mile or more each time. Children are allowed to run at their own pace and are encouraged to socialise with their peers while completing it. Children will be allowed to complete this in their uniform and so will not require a PE kit. However, you are welcome to send in a pair of plimsolls or trainers for the children to change into if you feel this would be more comfortable for them. As a school we are excited about this new initiative and we are looking forward to the benefits it will bring to the children. To find out more about how it all works please visit: www.thedailymile.co.uk.

Anti Bullying Week

This week at Peninsula East Primary Academy we have all been taking part in anti bullying week. We have taken part in assemblies, circle time sessions, kindness themed activities and many more. We hope that during this week we have helped raise awareness around what bullying is and if it is happening to our children how they can ask for help or support others.

Here is a little bit of information about bullying that you could share at home to support your children. You can also find our anti bullying policy on the academy website. If you have any concerns or questions please don’t hesitate to contact the school office or myself (Mrs Drogomirecki).
