Year 3 has been learning many different things since the start of the year. During our maths learning, we learnt about 3D shapes and what vertices, edges and faces were. To help us with our learning, we were given some sticks and marshmallows; we had to create a 3D shape first and then use our knowledge of vertices and edges to count how many our shapes had.
In PE this week, we learnt to throw a javelin successfully. Mr Paton taught us how to hold it and aim so that it would go straight. During the PE lesson, our skills improved as we noticed that our javelin's were travelling further on the track.
For Art this week, we explored the idea of expressing ourselves through painting. We looked into colours that might symbolise feelings and our personality. For example, Edward said the following about his art: "I painted a picture to express myself; I painted a picture of a road with a lake and a tree next to it.
The river expresses my calmness, and the tree shows my love for nature."
PEPA Tots
The children have been exceptionally busy over the last two weeks, engaging in a variety of enriching activities. They thoroughly enjoyed participating in their first sports day, where they showcased their athletic skills and cheered on their classmates. In addition to the excitement of sports day, the children also experienced the joy of harvesting the potatoes they planted back in April. This hands-on activity allowed them to see and learn about the growth process of plants.
To wrap up their eventful week, the children took great pleasure in viewing their own artwork, as well as the creative pieces produced by their peers around the school. This art exhibition not only highlighted their artistic talents but also fostered a sense of community and appreciation for each other's work. All these activities combined made for an incredibly engaging and fulfilling fortnight for the children.
Sports day
What an eventful day Sports Day was! It was excellent to see so many families supporting their children and helping other children. Sports day wouldn't be the same without parents cheering!
The children had a fantastic time and expressed their enjoyment to their teachers once they were back in class. Sports day can be a long day, but every child across the school did so well, and I can't begin to express how happy we were to see the children being team players!
Thank you to all the parents who supported us, to the PTA for helping the teacher, and a big thank you to all the teachers who ran each event and motivated their children to continue.
Thank you for all the amazing feedback we received for sports day.
'Both were brilliant, loved being able to have a picnic lunch too. Well organised, kids all had a fantastic time. A few activities could have benefited from extra help (sack race for the little ones they all struggled getting in the sack) but all around was a lovely day'.
'Absolutely wonderful. It was really well managed this year; the picnic was a great touch and highlighted all the reasons I love this school.'
'The session was not too long overall, and there was minimal time where nothing was happening, which is best for everyone. The children helping with the sessions (I believe they were from another school) were very good at assisting children where required. All the teachers were very positive. The format throughout the day was simple and easy to understand. The info handed out around time slots was spot on. It was great to have the quick-fire races at the end, too, with minimal time wasted. We saw probably around 20 races, and it was great to see them...delays here could have made it dull.'

Julia Donaldson School Trip
As many of you may know, Julia Donaldson class visited Jeskyns Community Woodland on Tuesday. Despite the weather cutting our trip short, the children and adults had a wonderful time. We first started our day by having a well earned snack after our terribly long bus journey 😋. This is where the children received their Gruffalo gift bags! Next we began our walk on the Gruffalo trail and at our first stop we discussed what a mouse might eat. I wonder what you think a mouse might like to eat? We then noticed that there was a park, so the children were instantly excited! We had lots of brilliant risk taking opportunities like walking along a log and even jumping from it! After that, we went into the Fairy and Elf Village where we spotted some fairy houses and lots of interesting chairs and stools. Whilst we were in the Fairy village, we went on a leaf hunt and also made some stick spider webs! Feel free to check out the fun they had from the brilliant photos and recounts!
LAT Maths Tournament
This module, Year 5 took part in Leigh Academy Trust's Primary Maths Tournament. They worked in groups to answer various Maths questions, competing against other primary schools within the trust. We had one team who were then selected to compete in the grand Final on Monday. A huge congratulations is in order for the whole of Year 5, who worked exceptionally hard in this tournament.
Franky, Franklin and Sonni competed against other LAT Primary Schools in the grand final on Monday representing Peninsula East and took 2nd place . This is a huge achievement, and they should be so proud of this accomplishment.
PEPA's Art Gallery
Thank you to all the parents and carers who were able to join us for the Art Gallery this week. We hope you enjoyed the opportunity to see the children's work and celebrate their sketchbooks. The children were so proud to be able to show off their work and also what we had completed with Arty Party. We will look forward to next year's Art Gallery.
