Julia Donaldson
Julia Donaldson class have been working really hard on their learning over the last few weeks. We have already looked at our first line of inquiry 'How nature is representing in art', where they explored observational drawing, paint mixing, natural resources and creating their final piece of Van Gogh's 'Sunflowers'.
They have also written a diary entry in the role of Katie, from the story 'Katie and the Sunflowers'. For our second line of inquiry we have begun looking at 'What conditions do plants need to thrive'. We have explored real plants, identifying, grouping and undertaking close up observations using digital microscope. Outside of our inquiry learning, we have learned about money and we have even started practising for sports day! The children have loved the healthy competition!
Emmeline Pankhurst
So far this term, Year 5 have been working extremely hard on their learning. We have inquired into the Victorian era and used our research skills to find out about Victorian Inventions and how they have changed over time and how we still use them today. We conducted science investigations looking at the force of friction. We tested how oils and lubricants can reduce friction by having two jelly cubes on our tables and adding oil to one of them. We tried to pick up each jelly cube with pencils (acting as chopsticks) and found that the jelly cube without oil was easier to grip, due to there being more friction between the objects. We also tested different shoes to see which had the most/least friction when pulled along a rough surface using a newton metre.
Year 5 were able to identify that the lines on the bottom of shoes support the grip which in turn means there is more friction. We have also been practising for Sports Day by running relay races in PE. In Art, we have been looking at the Bayeux Tapestry and have practised creating lines with stitches, which will build up over the module to then create our own piece of tapestry.
Year 6 Residential
Year 6 had the best time at their residential at Bowles Rocks in Tunbridge Wells! Everyone worked brilliantly as a team and were so enthusiastic about all of the activities. The children completed activities such as archery, pool kayaking, rock climbing, low ropes and zip line, team work activities, skiing, bush craft and enjoyed a campfire on one of the evenings. All of the staff commented on how polite and well-mannered the children were and thoroughly enjoyed working with us. It was great to see the children increase their independence, resilience and team work skills and the teachers also had the best time!

We are delighted to announce that we have received a Silver ArtsMark Award! Artsmark is the only creative quality standard for schools, accredited by Arts Council England. It supports schools to develop and celebrate arts and cultural education across the whole curriculum, bringing learning to life for children and young people.
The ArtsMark Assessor commented: 'The arts are integrated in your PYP cross-curricular enquiry based approach...You have introduced Sing Up music and you have gained funding to allow specialist music support from Medway Music Association, which has also offered opportunities to perform in choirs at local Cathedrals and Theatres. Your child-led approach has seen pupil voice impacting on the curriculum...You have a strong understanding of the value of opportunities for artistic exploration across the curriculum. Your Creative Arts competition with the theme of ‘Expressing Yourself’ gave children agency in the way in which they produced a piece of artwork...Exhibitions within and beyond the school have showcased children’s talents and your ‘inspiration stations’ allow the children themselves to showcase their creative arts work. External providers have been engaged to offer musical theatre and dance clubs. Your involvement in the Royal Opera House’s Cultural Champions project provides quality CPD in dance, drama and music.'
We’re extremely proud of achieving our Artsmark Silver Award. We are committed to delivering a high-quality arts and cultural education and we look forward to continue to grow with Artsmark.
