Pepa Tots
This term, we are focusing on how stories are shared. We have been exploring "The Gruffalo," and the children have been acting out and interacting with the story using puppets. Additionally, we welcomed Ian Rose, who spoke about his journey to becoming a Paralympian.
Maya Angelou
Since our return, Year 3 has been excited and engaged in their learning. We began the week with a science activity: planting broad beans. Each plant is intentionally missing one of its essential needs. This experiment will allow us to witness their growth and explore each bean's journey.
During our art lesson, we went through our primary and secondary colours and mixed them to see what colour they made. Once we did this, we painted a 'disaster' on a long piece of paper as a team. Together, we communicated what we wanted to paint and worked in either pairs or tables to paint.
For our first PE lesson, we learned the fundamental skills needed to help us run at a distance. Mr Paton taught us how to effectively use our arms during our distance run, and we then applied this knowledge to our class races in preparation for sports day.
British Red Cross Workshop
This week, Year 5 had a virtual workshop with the British Red Cross as part of our Action for our inquiry last term. During the workshop, the children learnt about the experience of migration and reasons why people may have to leave home. Year 5 focussed on developing empathy by putting themselves in the shoes of others and engaging in stories of migration. This workshop enabled the children to challenge assumptions about migrants, asylum seekers and refugees.
Paralympian visit from Ian Rose
On Thursday 6th June, we were very fortunate to have a visit from the Paralympian Ian Rose. Ian is a former Judo Paralympian who has won medals competing in the paralympics around the world. He spoke to the children about his life, how he has overcome any difficulties he has faced as well as how he has become successful. He also spoke to the children about how you can achieve anything you put your mind to as well as 'the power of yet'. We would like to thank Ian for his wonderful workshops as well as his whole school assembly.

Information
Medway Information on E-scooters
Enforcement
The police are obliged to take action against anyone who is caught repeatedly using an e-scooter illegally or in a way that causes a nuisance to others. In these circumstances, the police have the power to seize the e-scooter under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act/165 of the Road Traffic Act.
You risk a £300 fine, six penalty points endorsed on your driving licence and the E-Scooter being seized. If you do not currently hold a driving licence at the time of the offence, you may be prosecuted and may have to go to court, whereby the fine can increase and your ability to obtain a driving licence in the future may be affected. If you purchase an E-Scooter, it can only be used on private land with the landowner’s consent.
Fire Safety
Kent Fire and Rescue Service have issued a safety warning on the use of lithium-ion batteries following several battery related fires across the county. Lithium-ion batteries, or li-ion batteries (sometimes called LIBs) are commonly found in many items including mobile phones, laptops, e-bikes, hover boards and e-scooters.
Firefighters are urging the public to take care when storing and using these types of batteries, and to think twice before purchasing items from non-reputable suppliers. You can find out more about this via KFRS website here: KFRS issues battery safety warning | Kent Fire and Rescue Service (fire-uk.org)
Additional information
For further detailed information regarding e-scooters please visit GOV.UK: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/powered-transporters/information-sheet-guidance-on-powered-transporters
The Government is currently trialling the use of approved rental e-scooters as environmentally friendly modes of transport in some specific locations in the UK (find out more here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/e-scooter-trials-guidance-for-users).
There are no e-scooter trials within Kent or Medway.
Only approved rental e-scooters may be used in the Government-led trial areas, in line with specific terms of use. For the rest of the country, under current law, e-scooters can only be used on private land.
