Well done to Julia Donaldson class for having the best attendance this week in KS1. In KS2 this week, Maya Angelou class have won for best attendance for the second week running. Well done to both classes! It is fantastic to see that as a school our attendance has been very good over the past few modules and it would be great to see this continuing into module 6.

Julia Donaldson
Over the last couple of weeks, Julia Donaldson Class have been working really hard on their 2nd and 3rd line of inquiry: 'The relationship between technology and play' and 'Innovations in play'. We have studied the book Traction Man, where they have produced beautiful innovated endings to the story. Year 1 have also been demonstrating their computing skills by working on the animation app called 'Scratch'. This week, we have begun looking at the artist Tony Hart and his work with the character Morph as our end goal is to innovate our own Morphs! They have written instructions and begun to plan how they want their Morph to look. I cannot wait to see their final product!
Emmeline Pankhurst
This week, Emmeline Pankhurst class visited Kent Life. We experienced a Viking workshop and learnt how the Vikings lived which links fantastically to our inquiries this term as we continue to find out about significant invasions. The weather was beautiful and we also enjoyed a tractor ride, saw lots of different animals and went back in time to see what houses were like in the 1930's and 1950's. The children were behaved impeccably and represented PEPA beautifully.
MATHS
At Peninsula East, we pride ourselves on being fantastic mathematicians! We have daily Maths lessons which focus on improving our fluency, problem solving and reasoning skills and we complete various activities such as code breakers, investigations and practical maths to help boost our understanding.
Recently, we had a Maths assembly where we learnt about some famous mathematicians including Leonardo Fibonacci, Alan Turing, Sophie Germain and Dorothy Vaughan.
We also learnt a song called 'Multiplicity' which was all about Maths and how important learning our times tables is!
Modern Foreign Language
Hola!
We at Peninsula East have had a brilliant time learning all about Spanish.
Year 3 to year 6 are all progressing through the Spanish Languagenut work, where the children have thoroughly enjoyed learning about animals. They have learnt about pets, zoo animals and general animals. Followed by, writing sentences describing their chosen animals.
"I enjoy learning Spanish weekly as I am able to develop my Spanish as I go to Spain often" is what one child said to Miss Spinola about their Spanish learning. The children have a positive mindset about Spanish and this is great to see across the school. The children are praised for using their Spanish throughout the day.
Absences and Illness Reminders
Illness
Parents/carers are asked to contact the school on the first day of absence to provide the reason for the absence and where possible on each subsequent day of absence.
Where Office Staff are not made aware of the reason for a child's absence they will, wherever possible, contact parents/carers by telephone on the first day of absence.
If any member of staff is concerned about a reason for absence, the Vice Principal or Principal will be informed.
If a child is kept off from school due to illness for 4 or more days and medical advice has not been sought (proof of which will need to be provided) then we would not be able to authorise these days. For some illnesses, such as chickenpox, the school will seek advice from the Department of Health.
Please also be aware that if proof of medical evidence/advice has not been provided and a child has not been seen by school staff for five consecutive days then a home visit may be carried out (on the fifth day) in accordance with our safeguarding guidelines.
Good Luck Year 6!
Our Year 6 pupils have been working hard all year and preparing themselves for undertaking their statutory assessments in May. They have made an immense amount of progress in their core subjects and have been resilient and active learners, who have actively sought out support from key members of staff. Next week, they undertake their SATs and will be coming in early to enjoy breakfast in school and to help them to settle and be ready for each assessment each day. We want to thank the Year 6 staff team for their fantastic support in ensuring that the class are SATs ready and we want to wish all of the children an immense amount of luck in completing their assessments next week. We know that they will be absolutely amazing! They will then have an end of week treat next Friday at Haven.
Information
Parking
Can we politely ask again that parents/carers stop parking in the school car park, it is restricting access for the minibus entering and leaving the site with children onboard. As mentioned previously, the car park is only for staff, official school visitors and parents with blue badges (that have mentioned to the school). We are sure that you would agree that we would all want to support our children here to be able to access the school in the mornings and to go home when they are using the minibus, ensuring safety for all. Many thanks for your ongoing support.
