Our Wonderful Inquiry Work

PEPA Tots

Our inquiry this term is diving into the journey of life cycles, starting with the story of the Very Hungry Caterpillar.

The children were vey engaged and enthusiastic in learning the various stages.  They also explored the range of foods the caterpillar ate. They undertook lots of different activities such as clay modelling and sock puppets.  They also  went to the school field in search of caterpillars and butterflies.

Maya Angelou

Maya Angelou class have had a great start to the term, we have all been busy learning new things and having fun. These two weeks we have learnt a lot about Antarctica and Ernest Shackleton, with more to learn! We have applied our new knowledge to various subjects.

This week in Science we have been looking at magnetic and non-magnetic items, we have learnt that magnets have two poles which either attract or repel. We then explored the school, listing items that were magnetic/not magnetic and made a few discoveries.

During maths we were learning about money, we were able to visit Miss Spinola's shop outside the classroom and were given an amount to spend. When we then chose the items we then had to add up our totals to check that we were within our budget.

School information

PSHE at PEPA

At PEPA, we aim to provide children with opportunities to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to manage their lives now and in the future in order to be well-rounded global citizens.  This is done through our tailored IB curriculum and the teaching of PSHE. PSHE encourages children to embrace diversity and learn about different lifestyles, needs and cultures.  Last term we saw the whole school learn about physical and mental health, and keeping safe.  These photos show the children’s brilliant work on this topic.

This term we are focusing on growing and changing which is linked to our transdisciplinary theme of ‘Where we are in place and time’. Take a look at what all year groups have been working on…

Nursery: the life cycle of a butterfly

Reception: the life cycle of a tadpole

Year 1: what makes you special?

Year 2: the human life cycle

Year 3: personal identity

Year 4: diversity within their inquiry

Year 5: expressing yourself

Year 6: growing up and increased independence

Please keep a look out of booking instructions for these coming out shortly.

Goodbye to Miss McGrath

We wish her all the happiness in her new role and she will be missed.

Information

Childcare choices

Apply for 15 or 30 hours childcare to start a place in September

From 1st April, if you are an eligible working parent in England, you can apply for:

• 15 hours childcare for your two-year-old

• 30 hours childcare for your three or four-year-old

The second phase of the childcare support expansion will be rolled out from September. From 12th May, if you are an eligible working parent in England, you can apply for 15 hours childcare for your child aged 9 months old and over.

You will need to apply by 31st August to use your hours from 1st September. To do so, visit gov.uk to get your code for a place in September and then share it with your childcare provider. To continue receiving the government support, you will need to reconfirm your details every three months on your gov.uk account.

From September 2025, eligible working parents in England with children between 9 months up to school age will have access to 30 hours childcare.

This comes alongside other government childcare support, including Tax-Free Childcare and Universal Credit Childcare. You might be able to use more than one offer together to help with your childcare costs.

Childcare is also expanding for primary-school age children. From September, parents in England can expect to see an expansion in the availability of childcare in their local area before and after school, that runs from 8am until 6pm or later, also known as ‘wraparound childcare’. Ifyou are eligible for Tax-Free Childcare or Universal Credit Childcare, you can use the support to help pay for your wraparound childcare.

Visit Childcare Choices to see what support you might be eligible for, now and in the future, so you can juggle work and life: Childcare Choices | 30 Hours Childcare, Tax-Free Childcare and More | Help with Costs | GOV.UK
