Julia Donaldson
Over the last couple of weeks, Julia Donaldson Class have been working extremely hard looking at monarchies, the UK, team building and experimenting with materials in science! Their knowledge on Kings and Queens has developed incredibly this term and they are able to apply their understanding to lots of different areas including, why castles were built, what job roles there are in castles and facts about different Kings and Queens.
Whilst looking at different job roles, Year 1 role played what they had to do whilst the rest of the class had to guess the job; it was brilliant! Year 1 have also shown amazing team building skills during PE and have even be able to show Year 2 and Year 5 how to play one of our team games. In science we have continued to look at materials and have investigated which materials sink and float. As an added extra to our learning this term, and as a part of science week last week, we have been working on our outside area and began planting lots of different seeds. The children cannot wait to see how our garden will grow!
Emmeline Pankhurst
This week, we planned and carried out a science investigation to see what happens to the Sun during the day. We went outside onto the playground at different times of the day to observe our shadows and how they change as the Sun moves. We ensured to make this a fair test by standing in the same spot each time, every two hours throughout the day. We drew around our shadows using chalk and measured the length using a metre ruler. We recorded our findings and observed the changes to our shadows (length and position). By completing this investigation, it enriched our learning about the Earth, and we learnt that the Earth is constantly spinning on its axis whilst orbiting the sun and that It takes 24 hours for the Earth to completely spin.
PTA Easter Bonnet Parade and KS2 Easter Bake Off
It was fantastic to see so many wonderful bonnets that had been created for the parade in EYFS and KS1 this morning. The time and effort that had been put into this was clear to see and the children enjoyed showing them off. The winners were picked by Lyn & Richard, representatives from Allhallows church and we'd like to thank them for their time in helping to choose as we are sure that this was a difficult decision!
It was also great to see all of the fabulous Easter cakes that some of our KS2 children had been busy baking at home. They certainly gave the 'Bake Off' a run for their money as so much effort had gone into the cakes and they smelt delicious. Well done to all of KS2 for a tremendous effort! The winners were picked by Sue from Allhallows Parish council so we'd also like to thank her for her participation.
Well done to all of the winners that won an Easter egg prize!! Thank you to the PTA for organising the events as well as the fair and for providing all of the children in the school with an Easter gift. I know the children were really thrilled to be receiving these. Have a fabulous Easter all!
Art at PEPA
At PEPA we have been fantastic artists by developing a variety of skills and techniques to make a final piece.
In EYFS, the children have been making lovely collages of woodland areas. In Year 1, the children have been exploring weaving skills and stitching within their Art and D&T lessons. In Year 2 and 3 the children have been learning different clay sculpting techniques. Year 4 has been learning about Boris Anrep and different mosaics. They have designed and made their own amazing mosaics. Year 5 has been learning about Space, the children have been adding collage to different pictures of space. Year 6 will be making a digital college on how they feel about COVID-19 lockdown.
Take a look at the fantastic artwork throughout the school. We have some real budding artists!
