British Science Week
This week, we have been celebrating British Science Week as a school. To fit in with the theme of 'Time' we have focussed on how we can improve the Hoo Peninsula for the future. Children in KS2 have created campaigns and new technology to support the development of the Peninsula whilst KS1 and EYFS have developed the school environment. We were lucky to be visited by the Fenn Bell on Monday who shared with us ideas from their Nature Project and they returned on Friday to judge the competition - well done to the winners and runners up!
RED NOSE DAY
It was great to see so many children wearing red to school and many with their red noses. Thank you for your kind donations, we don't have a final total just yet but hope to be able to share this with you soon. If you still want to donate then please visit: https://www.comicrelief.com/
Steve Backshall
During our art and DT lessons we have looked at the work of Boris Anrep, an artist who creates mosaics. We used this to inspire us to create our own mosaic tile. There was a design brief that we had to use. It stated that our mosaic needed 25 tiles and had to have a symmetrical design. First we planned our mosaic design on Google Sheets so that we could edit the colours and make changes to our pattern. We used these as templates to build our mosaic onto and then stuck them to a background.
It was also our class assembly this week and the children shared information about the Romans and poetry they had written about earthquakes and volcanoes. They used effective metaphors and similes to make their writing exciting. Well done to all the children for working hard on the assembly.
Paul O'Grady
In Paul O'Grady class, we have been using our Computing skills to help us create some graphs on Google Sheets, based on who our favourite author is. We collected data as a class, added this into a Google Sheet and then converted the data into a graph! We then had the opportunity to edit this graph so that we could make the graph more of our own. We are going to continue to analyse more data and present this on Google Sheets.
We have also been making mosaics. We have taken inspiration from Boris Anrep and used Google Sheets to design our mosaic. We then used the techniques we have been learning in class to make our mosaic come to life. We were looking at making them symmetrical too!
We look forward to showing you some more super learning soon!
History at PEPA
We have been enjoying our history lessons in this module and producing some excellent work across the school. Here is a reminder about what we have been working on.
EYFS have been thinking about how journeys have changed over time.
Year 1 pupils are considering the role of monarchs in Britain.
Year 2 pupils are studying significant places in their own locality and thinking about farming.
Year 3 pupils have been to a local museum to help them learn about Ancient Egypt.
Year 4 pupils are finding out about the impact of the Romans on Britain.
Year 5 pupils are discovering the significance of Katherine Johnson.
Year 6 pupils are researching the changes in healthcare and the NHS.
As you can see, we have a wide range of topics and themes for our inquiry lessons. Where possible, we link our history inquiry to examples from our local area. Here are some examples of our work from this module.
Pupil voice ‘I like history as you get to find out about how other people have lived their life and how things have changed over the years.’ - Luisa
‘It is necessary because you need to know what it was like in the past so you can change things and know what will happen in the future.’ - Austin
‘You learn more facts and become more knowledgeable.’ Graci
PEPA staff carpark
Can we politely ask that you do not use the staff car park as a drive through or to park at drop off and pick up times. An increasing amount of cars are parking within the car park, causing staff and medical staff not being able to park in the staff car park. Cars are also parking on the double yellow lines outside the school building. This is making the car park dangerous for the children as they leave the school and it is also making it increasingly difficult for the minibus to park up to drop off or collect children. The school minibus must take priority for our children and cars parked in the school site will be asked to move. Thank you for your support.
