Roald Dahl Class
This week, Roald Dahl class have been inquiring into the UK. We have discussed islands and how they are formed. The children used google maps to explore the UK and the British Isles and were able to locate and label them on maps. Then, we looked into the physical and human features of the UK. The children again, used their computing skills to pinpoint where landmarks around the UK are found and sorted them into human and physical features.
Greta Thunberg Class
This week, Greta Class have been inquiring into Life Cycles. We looked at lots of different animals and sorted them into their animal groups. The children worked well together and showed excellent communication skills. We then found out the meaning of different words related to life cycles, including adult, develop, offspring and young. After that, we explored the life cycle of a human. We found out some information about each stage in the cycle.
Beatrix Potter Class
In Beatrix Potter Class, we started off the week by learning about Plough Monday. We discussed what Plough Monday is and why we celebrate it. We looked at how ploughs have changed over the years and what they are used for. The children then had a go at making flowers and rosettes to represent Plough Monday. We finished the day by watching a Folk dance, we then worked as a class to make up our own folk dance using a variety of different moves.
During our Inquiry this week, we have been looking at habitats. The children have been super communicators and have had some excellent discussions around what a habitat is, what might live there and what that habitat might look like and have in it. From our inquiry, the children have chosen to make their own habitats, using natural materials, bricks and blocks and using different materials to create habitat pictures.
We have also enjoyed lots of fiction and non-fiction stories about where we live, animals and habitats.
Well done for all your super learning this week Beatrix Potter Class.
PEPA Tots
This term Pepa Tots central idea is looking at materials that are used to build and create. So, this week they have been looking at the materials the three Little pigs used to build their house, exploring building with blocks, sticks and straw.
Plough Monday
On Monday, the whole school celebrated another lost heritage day - Plough Monday. The children learnt about the history of the day and had the opportunity to take part in some traditional celebrations such as: creating decorations for the plough, Morris dancing and trying different foods. The children all had a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed learning about this historic event. Each class teacher has shared some of the children's learning with you for this day on Tapestry or Google classroom through Book creator.
Cookery Club
Mrs Rimmer held her first session for cookery club this week with year 5 and 6 pupils. We made our own tortilla chips from baking some tortilla wraps that we'd cut into triangles. Some of them were even risk-takers and tried some smoked paprika on them! They then made three different dips to tzatziki, salsa and guacamole. They learnt how to cut vegetables carefully, how to dig the inside of the avocado (which was tricky) and most importantly tried some new things that they hadn't before....especially coriander! Most decided that they liked the tzatziki the best! Please see some of the simple recipes for the dips that you might like to try at home;
4-6 medium tomatoes, peeled and finely chopped
½ red onion, very finely chopped
1 small garlic clove, chopped
small splash of white wine vinegar
½ lime, juiced
½ bunch of coriander, roughly chopped
STEP 1
Combine the tomatoes, red onion, garlic, white wine vinegar, lime juice and coriander in a bowl. Stir, then refrigerate until ready to serve.
1 large ripe tomato
3 avocados, very ripe but not bruised
juice 1 large lime
handful coriander, leaves and stalks chopped, plus a few leaves, roughly chopped, to serve
1 small red onion, finely chopped
1 chilli, red or green, deseeded and finely chopped
STEP 1
Use a large knife to pulverise 1 large ripe tomato to a pulp on a board, then tip into a bowl.
STEP 2
Halve and stone the 3 avocados (saving a stone) and use a spoon to scoop out the flesh into the bowl with the tomato.
STEP 3
Tip the juice of 1 large lime, a handful of roughly chopped coriander, 1 finely chopped small red onion and 1 deseeded and finely chopped red or green chilli into the bowl, then season with salt and pepper.
STEP 4
Use a whisk to roughly mash everything together. If not serving straight away, sit a stone in the guacamole (this helps to stop it going brown), cover with cling film and chill until needed.
½ cucumber, halved and deseeded
170g pot Greek yogurt
1 small garlic clove, crushed
handful mint leaves, chopped
STEP 1
Coarsely grate the cucumber, sprinkle with a pinch of salt and squeeze out all the liquid. Tip into a bowl with the yogurt, garlic and mint, and mix well. Great served with slow roast lamb or as a dip.
