Our Wonderful Inquiry Work
Pepa Tots
As this term comes to an end, we can look back and celebrate the amazing progress your children are making. As you would all agree we had a fantastic Nativity performance and would like to thank all the parents who attended to watch the performance. The children also enjoyed a Christmas Class Party with treats, dance and games. We wish you all a Merry Christmas!
Oliver Jeffers
After their superb performances in the Nativity, Oliver Jeffers class have been feeling very festive. As part of our inquiry, we have been thinking about Christmas traditions and how Christmas is celebrated in our homes and around the world. We have also very much enjoyed building Santa's sleigh in our child initiated time, demonstrating excellent teamwork and problem solving.
Walt Disney & Marcus Rashford
In Year 3, we had a surprise visit from the Naughty Elf. He has been creating lots of mischief and has been a big character in our classroom! The elf has been reporting back to the North Pole every night and the children have really enjoyed coming into the classroom to see what he has done.
We all took part in a 'Mad Hatter tea party' where the children had to engage in some dance routines. The children had great fun with this and were able to talk about their learning when they returned back to class.
This term, we have learnt lots about French. We sang a Christmas song and were also able to talk about all of the different colours we have learnt.
We have also improved on our basketball skills and have played lots of different games over the past few weeks.
Lewis Hamilton
In Year 4, we have had a brilliant time this week taking part in the KS2 Carol Concert, Christmas Jumper Day and even Christmas Dinner day. This term is always such a busy one but we have been equally enjoying our inquiry journey. We have been taking a geographical perspective to look at the similarities and differences between Paris and London, thinking carefully about how the two European cities. We have been looking at tourism and how this is also interlinked with both cities, in particular special and unique places that attract tourists. From this, we have now written our own persuasive leaflets on a tourist attraction (either the Tower of London or the Eiffel Tower).
Helen Sharman
This week, Year 5 took part in an Adobe Christmas workshop. They did really well and got a certificate, sticker and a new notebook to keep.
School information
Nativities & Carol Concerts
We are so proud of the pupils and their hard work towards their nativities and carol concert! We have been treated to performances from all our pupils, all the way from Nursery up to Year 6. They worked hard to learn lines, sing songs and perform beautifully. We would like to take the opportunity to thank our parents and carers for their support in preparing for these events, and to our staff in school for all the effort that goes on behind the scenes to make these productions possible.
Community Christmas Tree
Thank you for your support in decorating the tree for the school hall. Our Community Christmas Tree symbolises everyone within our learning community but also the wider area.
We have some amazing designs this year, such as a Grinch bauble and a lovely one from home which features one of our pupils and her younger brother!
Thank you to everyone who took part and created a bauble for our tree.
We were grateful to have so many people take part so it really is a true reflection of all of the wonderful people that we have around us.
Christmas Jumper & Christmas Dinner Day
Thank you to our PTA for supporting us to hold our Christmas Dinner. This year at PEPA, the children enjoyed a delicious Christmas dinner and had fun sharing Christmas crackers with their friends. Also we would like to say a big thank you to our kitchen staff for working hard to ensure everyone had a tasty meal.
Christmas Activity Day
The children are very lucky to have a planned Christmas activity day that Mrs Drobka puts a lot of time and thought into for them. This is also funded by the PTA.
This year they have made a representation of baby Jesus from sausage and pastry, made gift boxes to give to the homeless, making a marshmallow snowman and crafting a wreath. The children have already had so much fun and each activity has also been linked to our learner attributes.
PTA Christmas parties
We also wanted to say a huge thank you to the PTA for organising the end of term discos for our children, a thank you to our parents for sending in party food and to the PTA for ensuring that Santa visited all of the children and made sure that they had a lovely gift.
Information
We have a number of spaces still available on our Surviving the Sensory Season workshop which is running this Friday at Woodlands Academy 10am – 12pm. Please can you circulate this to any families you think might be interested. We will also take along gifts from the Toy Appeal which will be given out on the day.
The festive period can be an exciting time filled with celebration, fun and gift-giving, but for some people with autism, it can also be quite stressful!
The unusual sights, sounds and smells of Christmas can be an intense and unsettling affair not to mention the changes in routines and unpredictable surprises!
In this workshop we will look at some of the practical things you can do to make sure you and your family have a successful Christmas, even if that means serving up chicken nuggets for the most anticipated meal of the year!
We want this to be a fun and interactive session and a chance for you to have fun and share ideas before the Christmas holidays start.
We will bring the festive spirit and mince pies - spaces are limited, grab yours now BOOK HERE!
