March 2021

Principal's Welcome

Dear Parents, Carers and Children,

We are now getting ready to open again on Monday 8th March for all children - we can’t wait to see you all and settle back into learning as a whole school. Can I please remind all parents and carers that although school will reopen we must insist that all other lockdown guidance is followed for the safety of all our community - when you are on site and at home.

Next week we will also be celebrating World Book Day - despite us still working remotely we have lots of fun activities planned, we’re looking forward to having you take part!

Willow's Corner

I hope you all had a restful half term! What did you all do? Come and tell me or leave a message on my Google Classroom! Did you all know I also have a new email address? It is: willow@lpalearner.org.uk!

I am trying very hard to type with my paws at the moment so I can reply back to you all!

Science Challenges

Before half-term the challenge of creating a Rube-Goldberg machine was set and completed by two super LPPA scientists! Go and have a look at the Science Challenge classroom to take a look!

Every week, there is a new Science challenge for you to complete that does not need any scientific write-up - a simple picture, drawing or video is perfect!

This week’s challenge is about building the tallest paper tower using a single sheet of paper - a challenge lots of people can be involved in! So what are you waiting for?!

Everybody who gets involved this week will earn house point tokens for their house!

Our Link School (Chigombe School, Malawi)

Did you know that we have a link with Chigombe School in Malawi? For the past 18 months, teachers and leaders been working together to develop an understanding of education in both countries and children in some classes have been involved in joint projects.

Last term Mr Etheridge conducted a video chat with teachers and students in Chigombe, and we hope to have a reciprocal call involving some children with the relevant permissions here. We look forward to continuing our work with Chigombe school and are excited for the projects and collaborative work that is planned for the remainder of this year and in the future!

Signs of the week

It’s been so lovely to spot the first signs of Spring this week!

“Spring is coming” is the theme of this week’s signs and symbols.

Recipe of the week: Playdough (DO NOT EAT!)

You will need:

  • 8 tbsp plain flour

  • 2 tbsp table salt

  • 60ml warm water

  • food colouring

  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

Method

  1. Mix the flour and salt in a large bowl. In a separate bowl mix together the water, a few drops of food colouring and the oil.

  2. Pour the coloured water into the flour mix and bring together with a spoon.

  3. Dust a work surface with a little flour and turn out the dough. Knead together for a few minutes to form a smooth, pliable dough. If you want a more intense colour you can work in a few extra drops of food colouring.

  4. Store in a plastic sandwich bag (squeeze out the air) in the fridge to keep it fresh.
