This academic year, student careers have been a major drive at Milestone. As a result of a year of research and planning we have designed an exciting and engaging careers business pathway for our post-16 students. Our other pathways laying the foundations for our work in phase 4 have also been working on activities and experiences that prepare students to be as independent as possible and prepared for the appropriate career and occupations of their choice post Milestone.
We were so proud of our Wilmington satellite students who showcased the fruits of their planning and labours at a local Christmas fair in Wilmington. Our students designed, made, costed and advertised their own merchandise then sold these at a public event.
We hope you enjoy the photographs!
Year 7 students have had the fantastic opportunity of horse ride during modules one and two; not only have they become skilled with the horses and tack but they have also been working on their communication and interaction skills with the wonderful RDA volunteers.
Year 9 students have been on the mountain bikes throughout module one exploring the woods, many tracks, humps and bumps as well as other surprises like the rope swing area they have discovered!
Year 10 students are enjoying their time in the swimming pool, some have been using it as their wellbeing time, relaxing floating around the pool, others have enjoyed learning to dive or even jump and catch a ball at the same time!
Our Year 10 & 11s had their first football fixture of the year against Bradfields Academy. Snowfields were led by captain Franky to a victory with a 4-1 win with goals coming from Callum, Arthur and Josh x2. Years 7, 8 and 9 have fixtures against Bradfields coming up. In the new year we will be looking to increase these competitive fixtures against other schools and across campus in a range of sports so watch this space!
KS4 students at Bearsted participated in a performance and workshop from Little Fish Theatre, a London based theatre troupe who travel around schools supporting young people with the issues they may face in the modern world through theatre.
This year’s production Cancelled looked at the effects that sharing images through social media can have on a young person and their relationships. After watching the performance, students were encouraged to think about how they would have acted and the actors workshopped possible resolutions. Students really enjoyed the performance and felt that they had learned from the characters’ dilemmas and mistakes. We hope to see Little Fish back in the future.
