Why I chose History - Tise 9B

This academic year, I have decided to choose History as my compulsory humanities subject for several reasons. History is a diverse, and engrossing subject which creates innovation and creates opportunities for students to challenge their normal way of thinking and learn about the deep History of the global world.

History is known as a humanities subject which refers to the defined branches of learning that have a cultural character. Examples of this include: History, Geography and Religious Education. History, in my eyes, has seemed to challenge me in several different ways such as my cognitive memory (the way I learn), for example learning the dates of special events, how they occurred and why. It also improved my overall ability to write essays and speeches, which prepares me in the future for things such as job applications or spoken interviews.

History is a great subject to choose for your GCSE's because unlike other subjects, it gives you the "real deal". Learning about the past and reflecting on previous actions made by previous generations allows us as Humans to make sure we act on these previous actions and do better for future generations. History makes us cognizant and aware of terrible incidents in the past, but this is all necessary for us as students to create a world where such things don't happen anymore, and without History, us as students would not be aware of terrible things in the past, therefore we would be uninformed and not able to contemplate on how to fix such things if we ever encountered them.

An example of this is WW2, a very vast topic that is typically learnt in both Primary & Secondary schools. WW2 consisted of a man named Adolf Hitler who engaged in trying to "eradicate" all Jews from the planet, due to his hatred for them. This then started a chain reaction, which eventually led to World War 2, which cost many civilians and innocent people their lives and homes. If we did not learn about WW2 in schools, we would be uneducated about the amount of damage things such as anti-semitism can cause. A single burst of hatred can lead to an explosive war, and without History, we would not know this, therefore be uneducated and it would cause many problems throughout the world.

This is why I chose History, a chance to be innovative and learn from past mistakes from previous generations. It gives the crisp reality which we all need to be informed about, and gives us a chance to change from the past and create a new, better future.
