Reception Newsletter

November 2021 - Autumn 2

We would like to thank all parents and families for their continued support throughout this term. It was great to be able to meet virtually with parents and chat about how the children have been getting on. We are looking forward to exploring the seasonal changes this term will bring, as well as lots of festive play and celebrations!

Read Write Inc.

In RWI this term we will be continuing to teach the children Set 1 sounds and practising blending the sounds in words. We will also be working on letter formation, practising the correct way to write each sound.

Home Support

Please make sure you practise sounds with your child as much as possible at home, using their green Set 1 Speed Sounds book. You can find all of the sounds we have learnt on Tapestry memos too, with the sound card, picture and letter formation rhyme. We recommend that children also regularly practise writing the sounds they have learnt and practise writing their name.

Reading Books

When children can quickly recall nearly all Set 1 sounds and are beginning to blend written words, they will start to bring stories home to share with you. More information will be shared when your child is ready.

Busy Things

The children have been enjoying trying out lots of different games and activities on the Busy Things website at school - drawing, making music and practising sounds and numbers. Busy things is available at home too.

Winter Uniform

As the weather begins to get colder, please ensure that your child has a warm, waterproof coat in school every day. We also recommend bringing gloves, scarf and hat as the children will still spend lots of time outside.

We ask that you ensure that every item is clearly labelled with your child’s name.

PE/Earrings

It is essential that children do not wear earrings into school on PE days as they cannot safely take part in the session with them and we are not permitted to remove them

Christmas

Plans are now underway for our EYFS Christmas Production ‘A Wriggly Nativity’. Next week you will find out your child’s part in the production, the costume they will need and any lines they may have to practise. Please also see the school calendar for information about lots of other fun festivities happening this term and a reminder that on the last day of term school closes at 1.30pm and there are no after school clubs running.
