April 2021 - Issue 10
I hope all our children and their families are enjoying a lovely Easter break and making the most of the little periods of sunshine when they appear!
Our children work very hard in school and enjoy taking part in their learning, so I would encourage parents to take the opportunity to visit their class Google sites via the school website to see what's been going on in term 4; during the holiday you could do this with your child and ask them to explain it to you. The more they practice remembering and talking about what they have learnt the better they will become at retrieving information from memory when they need to. You might just be surprised at how much they can teach you!

We have been trialling a new Trust system for the Academy called School Cloud, which proved very successful for the Juniper class parent drop-ins at the end of Term 4. This gives parents the opportunity to book appointments with the class teacher online and receive immediate confirmation of their slot. Virtual consultations will take place next term on the second week back on Wednesday 28th April for KS2 and Thursday 29th April for KS1. You will receive an email with a letter explaining how you can create an account with School Cloud - ready to book appoitments when the slots open on Tuesday 20th April. This leaves us the first day back of term 5 to resolve any logging in issues that parents may have - as spellings are critical to correct logging in. If, you are having issues creating an account, please contact the office when we return on Monday 19 April, who will help you.
These have been proving very beneficial for the children attending and we have already seen vast improvements in both confidence and ability in just a few short weeks. These will continue at the same times for Term 5 and any feedback will be given to parents at your child's parent consultation.
You will be aware of the school's policy of first day calling in the event of an absence - unless we have a valid reason for the non-attendance. Please leave a message on the school absence line as these are always picked up every day and recorded. Please make sure you give a reason for the illness - not just sickness or illness as you will appreciate in this current climate, our course of action is dependent on the information you provide us.
Parents in Reception will already be aware that we are saying a sad 'goodbye' to Mrs. Cook from Juniper - who is leaving us at Easter to spend more time with her family. We wish her every success with her new ventures and will miss her as well as Mrs. Riordan, who has been an integral part of EYFS from out onset - but who has secured a role at her children's school, which fits in better with her own family life.
In Term 5 we are welcoming Miss Duke and Miss Micic to the EYFS team, who are both very much looking forward to getting to know the children.
Elections for 1 boy/girl from each year group 'Bubble' will take place in the first week of Term 5. Pupils in Year groups 1 - 5 will be invited to take part in an election and voting process - with the successful candidates being awarded a COPA 'Student Council' badge and the opportunity to work virtually alongside our partner support school Wilmington Academy to represent the voice of their Year Group 'Bubble'.
Further to our recent email reminding parents of the need for social distancing and close supervision of the children, whilst waiting for your staggered start time, it has been brought to our attention by worried parents about children bringing plastic toy guns to school to play with outside the school gates and surrounding areas. Obviously this is very disconcerting for some parents and children and makes them feel
If you are picking your child up from school, please note there should be no motorised vehicles on the footpath outside school in the interests of safety.

With the huge amount of building work happening around the Academy, we have been reminded of the dangers of our local area - especially as the Easter holidays approach. Here is a message sent from Camland Consultancy which highlights the dangers to our children.
"Hope you well, it has been bought to our attention this week there has been two site incidents involving children which could potentially of resulted in serious injury, one being two nine year old girls finding their way onto a construction parcel, thankfully they were find quickly and brought back to safe ground, the second, possibly being older students endeavouring to climb one of the banks up to The Observatory!
As you can imagine we at Eastern Quarry take site safety very seriously, can I please ask for your help in arranging for school talks to all pupils reminding them the dangers of exploring construction sites and taking risks in other areas of the development, be it climbing a bank, playing and swimming the lakes"
Please make sure your children are safe in the surrounding areas when out playing - this link may help with explaining to children the dangers of construction sites.
On Thursday 24 June we plan to hold our 2021 Sports Day on the new school field! New turf on the School playing field has been laid and will soon be ready for sports and athletics practice with our PE Lead. We hope to run EYFS/KS1 in the morning of 24 June and KS2 in the afternoon. As yet we are uncertain if the guidelines will allow us to have parents into the school grounds to watch - but rest assured we will either 'live stream' or record the proceedings so that you don't miss out.
Whilst learning all about The Great Fire of London Year 2 built their own 'wooden terraced houses' out of the cereal boxes.. They painted and stuck striped black card to replicate the design of 16th century houses. To learn more about the tragedy itself, the class reconstructed the incident in 1666 and set them on fire to give the children a perspective on how quickly the fire spread!
This virtual workshop provides parents and carers with the opportunity to learn more about Emotion Coaching and why it is important. This will take place virtually on Tuesday 11 May from 1:15 until 2:15pm with our EP Raj and our SENCO Mrs. Adams.
Book below on the red button to reserve your place and you will be emailed a link to join in the workshop.
Every Monday, teachers introduce the particular quality from the IB Learner Profile that we are considering for that week. Currently these assemblies are being recorded and shown in class as we cannot have the children altogether in the hall. As they are being recorded at the moment, we thought it would be nice to share these with parents so they could understand and discuss with their children at home. The assemblies will be available to view every Monday afternoon via your child's Google Classroom.
We are delighted to say that after a two day virtual visit to the school and very positive feedback, we are well on the way to becoming an IB accredited school!
We are now a fully certified NOS School!
If parents have not yet signed up yet for a National Online Safety account please do so by clicking on our unique school link here. You will be able to access up to date online safety information and watch a range of informative webinars. You will also be able to find out all of the important safety information regarding apps like TikTok as well as teaching your child to look out for 'fake news' and other important, topical current events.
You will be aware Class Sites are now embedded on the school website. Please use this link to view your class site to see what has been going on in class this term and some examples of the children's learning. You can also view the SRP Window into the classroom here.
As our Club Itinerary gradually returns to normal, we hope to introduce a new site for Extended Schools to include BC, ASP and our Activity Clubs - to give parents a sample of what the children are experiencing in the clubs they attend. Look out for this during Term 5.
Term 5 Registrations have now closed and parents should have received confirmation of their place with the receipt of an invoice for payment. Please double check your junk mail if you have not received your invoice. We will not be taking any ad-hoc bookings from this point on so that staff and bubbles are secure for T5.
We have had a wonderful response to our After School Activity Clubs in Term 5 with Gardening/Dance on a Monday, Multi-Skills on a Tuesday, Handball on Wednesdays and Thursdays and Street Dance on Fridays.
Please note pick up for all Activity Clubs will be via the main school playground side gate and staff will bring children to the date at pick up time. Please be prompt to collect; KS1 @ 4:15 and KS2 @ 4:30.
Please be mindful that KS1 After School clubs start promptly at 3:15 pm outside in the playground and on the top patio. Please can parents collecting at normal home time be aware and hold any younger children's hand and vacate the premises as quickly as possible so that we can close the school gate and secure the site.
In Term 5 we welcome two new members to the Extended Schools Team. Miss Micic and Miss Twohig who will be supervising the KS2 Bubble for ASP. They have been working alongside the outgoing ASP staff in the last week of term, as they leave to lead on KS2 Interventions.
Term 6 Registration will be open for all clubs from mid May onwards; exact open/close dates will be notified to parents - once booking links open - by newsletter, news blog and on the website under the relevant tabs on the Extended Schools site.
Please contact SLY Moves Dance Club directly with any Street Dancing queries. COPA are not involved with payments and bookings for this club; we are just providing the facilities. Again parents collecting at normal school times, please be mindful this activity will be operating on the patio and far playground.
