Our current Year 5 - Medway Test

Lots of Year 5 parents have recently been asking about the 11+. Although Medway have yet to update this on their website, the window to register your child for this usually sits from the beginning and up until to the end of June. I am sure that before half term they will update us but in the meantime, please do keep their website below for reference. In previous years, the test has been undertaken in September but last year due to Covid, it was delayed until October. As yet, we have not had confirmation from Medway about what they intend to do so again, will update you when we know. As a school, we do not provide tuition or any preparation for the Medway Test as we are not allowed to as we administer the tests and so if you would like to prepare your child for this then we would suggest that you purchase the resources that are available or look at working with a private tutor.

PYP for Parents

The Global Goals

As a school and as we are working towards becoming an IB World School, our children look at The Global Goals and through their learning they do touch on the different goals at points throughout the year. Through the lines of inquiry that the children follow in their learning towards the end of the term, these promote action and so each class reflect on what action they could take that would have an impact on the wider world and their community.

The 17 goals were set by world leaders in 2015 and in creating these, they want to push for a better world by 2030 by ending poverty, fighting inequality and addressing the urgency of climate change.

If you would like to explore this further with your child then please do look on https://worldslargestlesson.globalgoals.org/

Learning knows no bounds.

SENco - Mrs Drogomirecki

It has been really lovely to catch up with parents recently about their children. If you would like to have a chat about how we are supporting your child in school or if you have any concerns about their progress, please feel free to contact the school office to make an appointment with me.

Dental Hygiene

We all know how important dental hygiene is, Medway are currently working closely with the Oral Health foundation and your children will be using their resources over the coming year in school to help support them in their understanding of Oral health.

Here are a few resources to support you with this at home too.

The leaflet below has lots of useful information that you might like to share with your children about their teeth.

Bereavement support

Death and bereavement are very hard for us all to deal with in our normal lives but I think this past year has made this natural, but awful time even harder for everyone. It can sometimes be hard to know how to support our young children through the grieving process so I wanted to let you know of a few services that you might find useful.

The video below shares a few lovely ideas of how you could approach the subject of bereavement and ways you could involve your child in saying goodbye in this strange time where we can no longer visit or have limited numbers on funeral guests.

Abuse

Peer on peer abuse/peer on peer sexual abuse

As you have probably heard on the news, there has been an increase in reports of peer on peer abuse including sexual abuse. As a school we have a zero tolerance to this. Staff have received additional training on this so as to support in identifying any concerns and children have been reminded of who they can talk to if they have any worries. This includes the safeguarding team that is made up of Mrs Rimmer, Mrs Penning, Mrs Drogomirecki and Mrs Dyke. If any concerns are raised we act on this by following the 5 R’s:

  • Recognise

  • Respond

  • Refer

  • Record

  • Reflect

As a school, we are working to promote healthy and respectful relationships. This is done through the teaching of our PSHE (personal, social, health and economic) and RSE (relationships and sex education) curriculum.
