Who am I?

One of my favorite spots: Jackson, WY

My Background:

I am the Upper Grades Resource teacher for Piñon. I have also been a Resource teacher at Chamisa, Barranca and Mountain. Prior to that, I was at the high school as an Instructional Assistant in the Living Skills program.

I have two sons with dyslexia that I homeschooled until they agitated to go to the high school. I am dyslexic myself, although I was able to develop some coping skills early on, so it didn't interfere with my education. I learned a lot about dyslexia and had some training during our homeschool journey, and then when I went to public school teaching, I furthered my training through courses and seminars.

My early career was with Aerospace and Computational Fluid Dynamics since I have a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, but after my kids went off to public school, I decided my passion was teaching, especially for kids who struggle with academics.

Resource Teacher: My job as a Resource teacher requires me to wear many hats, but my main job is to be an advocate for your child in school. I manage and write IEPs, coordinate with services such as Clinical Counseling, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy, coordinate with general education teachers, support your kids in the general education classroom, and teach academics such as reading, writing and math in the Resource room.

More About Me: My husband grew up in Los Alamos and I grew up in a lot of different places. We met at the University of California, Davis, in a remedial piano class. We adopted our two sons from Russia in 2000 on July 4th. We love the outdoors and often hike on the weekends. I spend a lot of time at the Los Alamos Stables and have enjoyed working with the Boy Scouts who have learned to ride on my two horses. I have an overflowing abundance of books at home, but also like art and music. We have a variety of critters that live at the house and at the stables.
