The Board

Robert Alexander MBE (Honorary President): Robert is a retired business man, he was awarded the MBE in 2013 for a life time of service to the local community and Youth Work.  He has been a Trustee on the  Board of Larne YMCA for 27 years being both the chair person and treasurer during that period. He brings a wide network of contacts from within the business community and significant experience of the  community sector to the board .

Fiona Gray (Chair Person): Fiona works within the social care sector. She has volunteered for a large number of years in the community sector and is a trustee and assistant  preacher  for her local church in Islandmagee. Fiona is also qualified  in counselling in personal development.  Fiona brings her experience of the social sector and her  care for young people and their families to the YMCA.  

Laura Steele (Vice Chair and Treasurer): Laura has a wide experience of the community sector. She currently works as the financial manager with an organization providing work experience and training to the disabled. She brings her experience as a user of YMCA facilities as well as her knowledge of financial systems and the community sector to the board. 

Sally Load : Sally is also a Designated Child Protection Officer for Larne YMCA. She is a retired secondary teacher who has worked in schools across the UK. In her professional life she worked with young people who had a wide  range of educational difficulties and needs . She has volunteered in the community youth sector for over 20 years. She brings her experience of child development and child protection to the board. 

Dr Brian Dunn: Brian is a retired GP who spent 37 years working in the heart of the community. During that time he  was chair of the national GP negotiator committee for 8 years. He has also served as local councilor for 14 years. Brian has served as a Trustee and Director of Larne YMCA over a long period and has been a previous chair of the organization. He brings a wide knowledge of the health and social welfare to the board. 

Gareth Hamilton: Gareth is Principal of Moyle Primary school , Larne. Whilst working with the schools leadership team he continues to develop services the school can offer to children and parents. He was previously Principal of Sunnylands Primary, and is also a member of the Horizon Surestart Board. Gareth has significant experience working with disadvantaged young people and their families . He  brings his leadership skills and  understanding of the support and development needs of young people and their families to the YMCA.  

Robin Tweed: Robin has much experience of leadership in church and the community and is passionate about providing the best foundation in life for young people to thrive. A Christian lawyer by profession, he brings 35 years of legal experience to his role as a Director and Charity Trustee of Larne YMCA.
