Dear All,
What a fantastic year of reading we have enjoyed at Lark Rise! So many children have engaged in their class reading books and it has also been lovely to hear many of them share their favourite books and authors in our Book Chats across the year. The Reading Ambassadors have done an amazing job of recording new book recommendations and, as a result, we are looking forward to further stocking up our class libraries with these suggestions. Many of the teachers have also enjoyed the recommendations from children throughout the year and have themselves read new authors.
To round off our love of reading, we held our final Booknic of the year, with school adults invited to share their favourite children's books with the children. All children were able to choose to hear four books or extracts from books being read to them by adults from across the school. It is always lovely to hear the buzz of excitement from the children as they move through the hall, eagerly discussing which book they want to hear read next.
By now, you should have received all the details of your child's Summer Reading Challenge set by each key stage. We look forward to discussing the books and completing some work based on them in the first couple of weeks in September.
In addition to our Summer Reading Challenge, Dunstable Library are also running an excellent Summer Reading Challenge based on the theme of 'Story Garden'. We had the pleasure of welcoming one of the librarians, Carly, into assembly on Monday morning to help enthuse the children and encourage them to take part in that event as well. The launch takes place on Saturday 19th July between 10am-3pm at Dunstable Library, when children can collect their challenge maps and create a Garden Monster. There are also daily activities taking place at the library over the summer, including some of the following: Hot air balloon craft, Lego fun, Sunday crafternoons, Friday morning cartoons and making Dragon suncatchers, to name just a few. Plenty of fun activities to keep your children happy throughout the summer holidays.
On that note, we wish you all a lovely summer holiday break and happy summer reading!
Kind regards
Mrs Lang and Mrs FrancisÂ
