Reading Newsletter
Welcome to the Summer 2 Lark Rise Reading Newsletter.
Dear All,
Welcome to the final Reading Newsletter of this academic year. As the summer holidays are fast approaching, the information in this newsletter will pay particular focus to the Summer reading challenges set by your children's teachers as well as the Central Bedfordshire summer library reading challenge, 'Ready, Steady, Read!' Details of our in school reading challenges have already been communicated with you but if you are unsure of what tasks have been set to the age appropriate text, please contact your child's class teacher this week. Our in school reading challenges are set from Year One to Year Six and there is a key text for you to share with your child and related learning tasks for them to complete. Early Years have a challenge linked to a variety of books and is an exciting checklist that allows these children to explore a variety of texts. These challenges have proved very successful in previous years and have promoted a love of reading for pleasure both at home and in school. We cannot wait to discuss these texts with the children when we return in September! You will see below the chosen texts for each key stage this year.

There has been a real buzz and love for reading this term. Children have been really excited about the new graphic novels that have arrived in school. Please ask your children about these. They have been a real hit and are being shared by all children. Take a look at the book recommendation page to see some of the fantastic titles children have been reading.
During our Key Stage Two Digital day this half term, children used their fantastic technology skills to create some AMAZING book reviews. Please ask your children all about these. I thought it was only fitting that we showcase a few on our book recommendation page. Please click on the tab at the top of this page and I am sure you will be as amazed as we are.
Finally, I have attached another link below that will enthuse your children over the summer with reading. Coram Beanstalk offer some really great, engaging reading challenges that open up so many opportunities to all children. Please take a look and let us know if you and your children complete any of these!
We all hope you all have a fantastic summer of reading with your children.
Kind regards
Mrs Jenny Langford

This is a beautiful story about an unlikely friendship between an 11 year old, April and a polar bear exploring the themes of loss, family, not fitting in and the environment. This story is beautifully written.
