Dear All,
World Book day was a great success all across the school. Children enjoyed lots of different activities related to books. Some of these included: drawing their favourite book characters, live author sessions, word searches and drawing the perfect reading area. In Key Stage One, children made wands and spells based on ‘Little Legends’ and designing a new book cover also kept us busy. We also enjoyed lots of time reading including out on the field and in our classrooms (even under the tables!). Lots of parents came to read with us at the ‘Stop, Drop, Read’ sessions. Also lots of the Reading Ambassadors read to children whose parents weren’t able to come – this was a really lovely activity. The Reading Ambassadors also set up the Aviary with cushions, blankets and bean bags so that anyone who wanted to read at break-times could come in and enjoy some books peacefully.
Thank you to everyone for taking part in the Potato character-making competition. We thought the entries were amazing and creative. They were all slightly different in their own ways and it was nice to see people diving into the world of imagination. Well done to the winners – we found it really hard to choose as we saw lots of entries that we loved. The winners are being announced in Friday's assembly and will go out on our end of term newsletter.
Please take a look to find out what key text your child will be exploring next half term on our Reading Roadmaps and some related books in our recommended reading section.
Happy half term reading!
Kind regards
Mrs Lang and Mrs Francis

Keeper of the Lost Cities
by Shannon Messenger
Jemima was gifted the box set for her birthday as these were recommended for Harry Potter fans. Jemima finds it very hard to put these books down! She is on number 5 of the collection.
Jemima’s comments about this book -
Sophie's adventures continue but the mysterious group ‘ the neverseen’ are still after Sophie and her friends. These books are so great because they are my favourite genre full of magical mystery and adventure. Worth a try if you like Harry Potter, I think they’re better.

Danny the Champion of the World
by Roald Dahl
The story is about 9 year old Danny who lives in a caravan with his father. They have a very good relationship and spend all their time together. Alexa’s favourite part so far was meeting the “not very nice” Mr Victor Hazell. She can’t wait to find out what’s in store for Danny.

The Christmasaurus
by Tom Flecther
This is about a young boy, William Trundle, who asks Santa for a dinosaur for Christmas. William meets a real dinosaur that lives in the North Pole with Santa (The Christmasaurus) and they go on an adventure together. The book is funny and exciting but Sofia’s favourite part was the introduction of The Hunter as she said it was a bit scary!
