Dear All,
There have been some lovely reading events in school this half term. On November 13th, the children in Years 1 - 6 enjoyed a fantastic live lesson with the poet, Michael Rosen. He shared his poetry in such an engaging way and included lots of interactive opportunities. It was delightful to move through the school on that morning and hear the laughter across all the classrooms as they joined in to celebrate 'Michael Rosen Day'. UKS2 have recently read his poem 'Chocolate Cake' and so it was especially exciting for them to 'meet' him through his live lesson.
At the end of November, Mrs True unveiled the new school Sustainability Library. This is in the entrance hall and contains a beautiful selection of fiction and non-fiction books that the children can borrow as additional reading for pleasure. The books have been carefully chosen to explore the range of issues such as those presented by climate change and are linked to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This has been extremely popular! The children have been extremely keen to borrow them, recommend them to each other and share their learning. A huge thank you to Mrs True for organising this.
Some of our Reading Ambassadors have been reading to the younger children in EYFS and KS1 on Thursday afternoons. They all get so much from this and the ambassadors are brilliant reading role models. You can hear from some of them further down the page where they introduce themselves and talk about their favourite books.
A huge thank you for your purchases from our wish lists. We have been overwhelmed with so many of the titles chosen by our children and adults in exchange for our Christmas movie night. Your generosity is hugely appreciated and we cannot wait for the children to be sharing them in school and at home with you.
This week, we are really looking forward to our Christmas 'Booknic' on Thursday. The children will be able to choose from a variety of Christmas stories to listen to from a range of different adults across the school. It's a magical time and lovely to sit still and enjoy sharing a story. We hope you are able to take the opportunity to do this with your child in the run up to Christmas!
Finally, please open the tab at the top of the page to find this half term's book recommendations. These are Christmas or Winter themed and are great suggestions for Christmas presents too.
Happy Christmas reading everyone!
Kind regards,
Mrs Smith and Mrs Francis

Lark Rise Reading Ambassadors
Here is a little bit about some of our Reading Ambassadors and their favourite books....
Ellie
Hello, my name is Ellie I am 10 years old and in Year 6. My favourite book is 'Lottie Brooks and the Completely Chaotic Christmas'.
It is about Lottie's hilarious, disaster-prone holiday as her whole family visits, she deals with a chaotic Secret Santa and her hamsters attack the Elf on the Shelf (Gavin), all while preparing for her starring role as the back-end of a reindeer in the Christmas play, making for a festive, relatable, and giggle-inducing read about family chaos.
I reccomend this book to ages eight and above.
Oliver
Hi! My name is Oliver and my favourite book is 'How to Fight a Dragon's Fury' by Cressida Cowell. I have loved all the 'How to Train your Dragon' series but I always wanted more action and story behind it and in the 12th book it brought exactly that and way more!
MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!!
At the start, the main character (Hiccup) lost his memory from a fire ball to the face (also burning half of his face). With his friends' help he regains his memory and defeats his enemy, Alvin the Treacherous. They stop him from being the king of the land by getting all 10 of the lost king's items (including Toothless). I would recommend this book for 7-12 year olds.
If you like adventure, you will love it. My rating for this book is a 10 out of 10.
Izabella

Lydia
Hello my name is Lydia I am a Reading Ambassador and have been for two years. I am a Year 5 in Eagles class.
My favourite book is ‘The Creakers’ by Tom Fletcher but I love many adventure books. I would recommend ‘The Creakers’ to children who love adventure and mystery.
