Dear All,
This half term has seen us focusing on what new texts we would like to see in our school libraries. The children have been sharing some of their favourite reads and items they'd like to add to the wish lists with both the Reading Ambassadors and in our weekly Book Club sessions. We are delighted with how well these sessions are developing and we are currently working with the English Hub to develop reading for pleasure further through book chat.
We have been overwhelmed with so many of the titles chosen by our children and adults in exchange for our Christmas movie night. Your generosity is hugely appreciated and we cannot wait for the children to be sharing them in school and at home with you.
We have some exciting developments in the pipeline for reading including a graphic novel library where the children can easily access some of their favourite titles and a sustainability reading challenge which Mrs True is organising. More information to follow about these when they are fully up and running.
We are also in the process of setting up some 'read with a friend' shelves in our key stages led by the Reading Ambassadors so that children can choose books to enjoy along side a friend and discuss the events together as they unfold.
We are really looking forward to our Christmas 'Booknic' this Thursday where the children will be able to choose from a variety of Christmas stories to listen to from a range of different adults across the school. We have added the selection below so that you can discuss your child's choices with them at home. What's more magical than snuggling up with your child for a Christmas story! We hope you are able to take the opportunity to do this with your child in the run up to Christmas.
Finally, continuing with the Christmas theme, I, Mrs Lang have been pleased to see the excitement from the children when it is their class's turn to receive a book from my book advent. Each class will receive two new books in the count down to Christmas; so far they have been very pleased with my choices.
Happy Christmas reading everyone!
Kind regards
Mrs Lang and Mrs Francis
