Dear All,

We kicked off the half term with a Sustainability assembly from Mrs True where she shared a wonderful story of 'The Boy Who Grew A Forest'. The children were amazed by the true story of Mishing tribesman, Jadav Payeng, who single-handedly planted over twelve hundred acres of lush forest on a once barren island in northeastern India.

There have been some lovely live lessons in association with 'Our Bookshop' in Tring. The authors sign books in the bookshop after the online lesson and parents have had the opportunity to pre-order these books. In UKS2 the book was 'A Heist Before Bedtime,' true scrapes and escapes from the bestselling Reverend Richard Coles. He also talked lots about his time on the TV Show 'I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here". Many of our UKS2 children bought the book and are finding it a humorous read. Shreya in Year 6 says her favourite story in the book is "Has anyone seen my brain?"! In LKS2, their lesson on 5th May was with Liz Pichon, the hilarious author of Tom Gates who is a firm favourite of many children. She was introducing her new book "Meet The Mubbles" and this was also really popular. If anyone would still like to buy a book, they have some signed copies available in the Tring shop.

Thank you to all the parents and carers who came into school at the end of the day for our ‘Stop! Drop! Read!’ event on Friday 8th May. It was very well attended, and it is always such a pleasure to see the children sharing books with their adults and enjoying time together in their classrooms. The school was buzzing with book chats! These events have become a popular part of Lark Rise Academy’s ‘Reading for Pleasure’ culture and are something we all look forward to. We are also fortunate to promote reading through our links with Coram Beanstalk who train volunteers to come and read with our children on a 1 to 1 basis and help promote the joy of reading. One of our volunteers this year is Louise. She reads with some of our Year 3 children on a Friday afternoon and the children are always delighted to see her.
