Dear All,
I cannot believe we are sharing with you our penultimate reading newsletter of this academic year. As the summer holidays are fast approaching, we would like to express how proud we are of the progress and enthusiasm all children have shown with their reading. It is clear that children are developing a desire and passion for reading, whether this is through decoding and fluency reading (RWI) or completing their reading quizzes on Accelerated Reader. There has most certainly been an influx of children visiting me to collect prizes for completed 100% Accelerated Reader quiz score cards. Well done to all children!
At Lark Rise, we are committed to nurturing a love of reading for all and this was celebrated this half term with the opening of the Lark Rise Community Library. Please take a look at the bottom of this page to see the lovely pictures from our opening ceremony.
As the weather is getting warmer, our Lark Rise Reading Suitcases will be in full use during break and lunchtimes. Thank you to Mrs Harling who has managed to secure some lovely comics and annuals to add to the children's enjoyment of reading. Who doesn't love to read the Beano? I know I do!
As you are aware, we have our 'Talking Book Page,' up and running. This half term, it is the turn of our UKS2 reading ambassadors to share a lovely book all about not being afraid to express our emotions, ' When the Jelly had a Wobble.' Click on the tab at the top of the page to listen to this book and please encourage your children to come and tell me what they thought of it. I love to hear children's reviews and if any of your children would like to write a review for the next reading newsletter, please encourage them to write it down and come and see me.
Finally, just a reminder that reading aloud each day with your children will support their fluency and oracy skills. Don't forget to record what and when you have read on Boom Reader. I have attached the link below;
As always, I have attached a link for a great list of recommended texts for children below. Please explore with your children and we would love to feature and share your experiences of a chosen text on the next edition of the newsletter.

The Lark Rise Community Library is open!
Last week saw the official opening of our community library. We were very lucky to have the Mayor of Dunstable, Liz Jones and the CEO of Chiltern Learning Trust, Adrian Rogers join us.
The community library is for our parents and carers as well as the local community to use and for anyone with a love of reading. We would like to say many thanks for the varied donations of books we have received so far.
The Lark Rise Reading Community
Thank you for your sending in your lovely book discussions you are having at home again.
Well done to the families below for having their recommendations and reviews published this half term. Remember, your children will receive a book from our Reading Robot so congratulations to you all!
Please continue to share all of the reading that you are doing at home, we love to hear about it and hope your text choices inspire others.
We are excited to share with you an offer from the National Geographic Kids magazine. Using the unique code for our school, you are able to subscribe for a year at a heavily discounted price. This is a fantastic opportunity to support your child's reading and learning. Please see the attached leaflet for more details. We can also benefit as a school with some copies if we can reach a certain number of family subscriptions.
You can find an excellent selection of jokes in this book. Eg. Animal, school or knock-knock jokes. If you like laughing, I can recommend this book.
I loved reading this book, it was very very funny! Each chapter is based on a different parent and how they are embarrassing to their children. Harriet Hurry was my favourite chapter because it was funny to learn how she was born so fast and loves speed which you would think is a good thing, but her children want her to slow down and they even try to pretend to be a police officer to get her arrested!
