Dear All,
As the first half term of 2023 draws to a close, we are proud to share with you our third reading newsletter. As we approach the half way point of this academic year, the children have been, not only amazing every adult in school, but also embracing all the reading opportunities available to them. It has been amazing listening to the discussion and excitement around lots of new texts being explored in classes. All the adults in school share what they are reading with the children and this is visible in all the classrooms and on the office doors. I was asked all about the Guy Bass book, 'The Legend of Gap-Tooth Jack,' last week as I had just finished it and an inquisitive mind asked if they could borrow it. Of course, I obliged and I look forward to sharing our review of the book together later in the term.
As you are aware, we have launched our 'Lark Rise Reading Community Initiative.' We would love for you to share with us the texts you are reading with your children at home by writing a short review of the text and completing the google form that has been shared with you. We will be choosing some of your reviews to feature on our newsletter and those children will receive a book from our Reading Robot. Already we have had some lovely reviews of a variety of high quality texts, so thank you. We hope that this will support your reading at home and you will receive some inspiring feedback from other children and adults on texts that you may have not thought about reading with your child! Please look further down this page to see our first published reviews!
Our Reading Ambassadors continue to work tirelessly in school sharing books with the younger children during whole class story time sessions. What fantastic role models they are! They will all be supporting me with some exciting events we have coming up.
On Friday 24th February, we will be hosting the Scholastic Travelling Book Fair in school where you will be able to purchase a variety of wonderful texts. We will be setting this up after school on the Friday as well as Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th February. You will be able to see the amazing books available and purchase them straight away! There are some exciting titles available so keep an eye out for the posters around school.
World Book Day is on Thursday 2nd March. We will be actively taking part in this fantastic day and would like all children to come to school in their pyjamas. Lots of fun activities are planned and we would like to start the book day celebrations with a competition! The reading ambassadors and I would like all children to decorate a wooden spoon as a character from a book! They can be as imaginative and creative as they like. Please ensure that all spoons entered have the child's name displayed on them. There are some amazing prizes on offer!
Could I please draw your attention to an exciting new page available on our newsletter this half term. The children in school have been working tirelessly to improve their reading fluency by listening to others read and also reading out loud. We have featured our first audio book on our new page this half term! Our amazing UKS2 reading ambassadors have chosen a lovely text to read aloud in order for other children in school to listen too. Please listen to this lovely text, 'Perfectly Norman' by Tom Percival, with your children. I am sure they will truly love the story, and you will agree how amazing our UKS2 Reading Ambassadors are; fantastic role models! Please encourage your children to let me know if they listened to the story and I would love to discuss what they thought.
Finally, just a reminder that reading aloud each day with your children will support their fluency and oracy skills. Don't forget to record what and when you have read on Boom Reader. I have attached the link below;
As always, I have attached a link for a great list of recommended texts for children below. Please explore with your children and we would love to feature and share your experiences of a chosen text on the next edition of the newsletter.

The Lark Rise Community Library!
We will be launching our very own community library very soon, where you, the adults, can choose a book from our outside library to read at home!
More information to follow soon!
A fantastical book where Lana (the main character) discovers a magical portal to the world of fairytales when visiting a new, mysterious supermarket that appeared overnight!
This book is about the world's coolest treehouse where lots of interesting building work has been going on. Our favourite part so far, is when Andy and Terry have to go to court just because Terry stole Andy’s chips! Amazing to hear Jemima giggling when we share these hilarious books. We almost have all the books in the series and highly recommend if you and your child like to laugh.
This book is about tiger who came for tea, eat all the food, drink all tea, milk, water. Make a mess and goes. Tiger eat Sophie's dad supper, and family went for dinner and shopping. They bought big tin of tiger food in case tiger come again.
But he never did.
