Newsletter 5.7.2024
Dear Parents and Carers,
I can't believe there are only 2 weeks left of the academic year! The time has absolutely flown by and there is just so much to celebrate and be proud of for our children. The results of some of our National Assessments are confirmed for both the Phonics Screening Check in Year 1 and the Multiplication Times Table Test in Year 4. I am delighted to share with you that our vision for ensuring every child is a confident reader is continuing to be realised with 93% of children passing the check in Year 1, an increase on last year's amazing results. In Year 4 another impressive outcome with children scoring 24.7 (out of 25) and 100% of children scoring 22 or above; amazing results also an increase of last year's outcomes. Congratulations to each and every child who has worked so hard to secure these vital skills which underpin the rest of the curriculum. The excellent knowledge and expertise from the staff team continues to support each child to reach their full potential. Next week your child will be receiving their end of year annual report which is a true celebration of their hard work and effort in their learning.
This week we were delighted to settle the children into their new classes for September and also welcome some new children to the school. The children spent a lovely morning with their teachers and their peers. Thank you if you attended the transition meetings for your child held last week. All of our transition handbooks have been emailed out already to each key stage but should you need to refer back to these they are available on our website under Key Information.
This week the children in Key Stage 2 took part in a Technology Day; using the chrome books they researched inspiring jobs in tech and created their own digital book reviews on Canva. The children collaborated with one another to do this and create the end result. This was an excellent way for us to make further book recommendations to one another on a bigger scale. A huge well done to Mrs White for organising this day. Next week we are excited to see what the Key Stage 1 children produce assisted by our Digital Leaders.
Today saw the first half of our awards ceremony. There was a lovely atmosphere in the hall for children receiving awards and our children congratulating one another. Congratulations to all of the children who won an award this year. The final half of our awards ceremony will take place when we say goodbye to our Year 6 leavers on 17th July.
Today the children were absolutely amazing at getting into the perfect number 50 formation for our anniversary photo taken by drone! Huge thanks to Mr Brinkley who came into school to capture this for us. Photos are available to purchase on Parentmail if you would like a keepsake of this wonderful memory for you and your child.
Next week we will be sending out our final reading newsletter of the year which is packed with news about reading in school and recommendations for this summer; make sure you look out for this. Keep an eye on our social media pages over the final two weeks as we have lots going on which we wil be sharing with you.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend whether you are or aren't supporting England tomorrow in the football - fingers crossed!
Mrs Romina Lang
Headteacher
Each week in our whole school assembly we celebrate children's attendance by playing a game of Attendopoly (based on Monopoly). The class with the highest attendance figure is rewarded with a class prize.
The winning class for the last week was:
Week of 17th June : Peacocks & Hawks classes with 100% attendance
Whole school attendance : 96.3%
Week of 24th June : Peacocks class with 99.4% attendance
Whole school attendance : 96.7%
Our whole school target attendance for this academic year across all classes is 97%.
Miss Perkins and Mrs Hankinson (Nursery Teaching Assistants) will also be leaving us at the end of term - we wish them lots for luck for the future and thank them for their care for the children while they have been with us.
A reminder that there is an an opportunity for parents/carers and children to visit the children's new classrooms on Wednesday 17th July between 3.30pm and 3.45pm. During this time you will also have the opportunity to view your child's One Page Profile which they have started about themselves. They may also add to these in September but we felt this time would be a good opportunity for you to add anything that you feel would be helpful for us to know in order to support your child further at school. For our children in Early Years, these One Page Profiles have already gone home for you to record together with your child.

Also, on Tuesday 16th July there will be a house winners treat (and also non-uniform day) for all children in the winning house for the whole year. Congratulations to Red house who are the overall winners for the year.
As you may be aware, we are taking part in this year's fundraising event organised by Keech Hospice Care, the Short Tail Trail. The children have all been involved in decorating our tortoise, which we have named Risey (see above) - every single child has added their finger print to our design. Through our various fundraising efforts over the course of this year, we have raised £1200 towards the appeal. Thank you to Mrs Shilvock who has coordinated this venture. Some of our Art Ambassadors will be visiting our tortoise which is currently on display at Stockwood Park next week. Please see the flier below should you wish to go and see the display and search for Risey - we would love to see any photos if you do go.
The results for the key stage inter-house Sports Day which took place last week are as follows :
EYFS : Green House
KS1 : Blue House
LKS2 : Yellow House
UKS2 : Red House
Once all totals were calculated, the overall Sports Day winner was Yellow House.
A reminder that there will be no after school clubs running in the last week of the Summer term (week of 15th July) so all children will need to be collected at the end of the school day (3.30pm).
If you have absolutely no alternative childcare until 4.30pm on that week, please contact the school office and we will try and assist. There will be NO childcare available on Friday 19th July. Any requests for the last week of term need to be with us by Monday 8th July.
