Dear Parents and Carers,
Over the course of this half term the children have been spending some time each week in the key stage that they will transition to in September. This process has been really successful over the last few years at helping to alleviate any anxieties and familiarising children with the learning environment and routines. I am so pleased with the way that the children have embraced these taster sessions over the last few weeks and am looking forward to our whole school transition day on Wednesday 3rd July next week. We will also be thinking about children who are leaving us on this day as they too spend some time in their new schools.
It was lovely to welcome lots of Dads and Grandads into school recently where the children in Reception greeted the special men in their lives with various arts and crafts. I was disappointed not to be able to pop into the session as I was attending virtual training at the time, however I was fortunate enough to be able to have an excellent view of the Dad dancing that was taking place through the blinds in my office; amazing! Thank you so much if you were able to be involved in this event; the children absolutely love to share their environment with you and enjoy some child initiated play.
Finally, we finished the week on a high last Friday with our 50th Anniversary party! What an afternoon it was; I was delighted that once again we'd been able to book the weather for the occasion! It was wonderful to see so many children and parents and carers also dressed up and looking the part in our 70's theme. Thank you so much for coming and spending the afternoon with us; there was such a lovely atmosphere and the community spirit could really be felt. A huge thank you to Mrs Hunt who is also known as Lark Rise's chief party planner; she did an excellent job at organising the event for everyone. We hope you had as much fun as we did. Please check our social media channels for photos of the event; there are more to come which we will continue to update.
The countdown until the end of the year is well and truly on but we still have so much to look forward to. Please continue to check your emails and social media for updates and news. I am looking forward to seeing lots of you on Thursday for Sports Day.
Mrs Romina Lang
Headteacher
Each week in our whole school assembly we celebrate children's attendance by playing a game of Attendopoly (based on Monopoly). The class with the highest attendance figure is rewarded with a class prize.
The winning class for the last week was:
Week of 3rdJune : Robins class with 99.1% attendance
Whole school attendance : 95.8%
Week of 10th June : Eagles class with 100% attendance
Whole school attendance : 92.7%
Our whole school target attendance for this academic year across all classes is 97%.
A reminder that we are unable to authorise ANY holidays taken in term time. The Department for Education (DfE) has made a number of changes to legislation and guidance related to school attendance that are due to come into force on 19th August 2024.
Under the new national framework, all schools will be required to consider a fine when a child has missed 10 or more sessions (5 days) for unauthorised reasons.
From August 2024, the fine for school absences across the country will be £80 if paid within 21 days, or £160 if paid within 28 days.
This rate is in line with inflation and is the first increase since 2012.
In the case of repeated fines, if a parent receives a second fine for the same child within any three-year period, this will be charged at the higher rate of £160.
Fines per parent will be capped to two fines within any three-year period. Once this limit has been reached, other action like a parenting order or prosecution will be considered.
Further information can be found in the DFE Parent Hub at the following weblink.
A reminder that Sports Day will take place on on Thursday 27th June. Timings for the day will be :
EYFS (Ducks, Owls & Robins) : 9.10 - 9.40am
KS1 (Hummingbirds, Parrots & Penguins) : 10.00 - 11.00am
LKS2 (Macaws, Peacocks & Red Kites) : 11.15am - 12.15pm
UKS2 (Eagles, Falcons & Hawks) : 1.30 - 2.30pm
Afternoon Nursery (Ducklings) : 2.40 - 3.10pm.
Parents/carers are welcome to come and spectate at the specified times but you are politely requested to please leave the school site over the lunchtime period.
Please could the children wear an item of clothing to represent the colour of their house (eg children in red house wear a red hairband/t-shirt/socks) as part of their PE kit. All should come into school in their PE kit (and coloured clothing/accessory) on Sports Day.
We will be holding a Break the Rules day on Friday 28th June when children will be able to pay a small charge (£1 per broken rule) to allow them to break the school rules for this day only.
Rules which can be broken will include :
wearing non uniform
wearing nail varnish
crazy hair
wearing tattoos
free choice lunchbox eg chocolate/sweets/fizzy drinks
bring in a snack
You will have now received the transition booklets for your child's new key stage together with links for the virtual meetings which will take place as follows:
Monday 24th June 7.00pm: KS1 (current Year R & Year 1 children)
Tuesday 25th June 7.00pm : LKS2 (current Year 2 & 3 children)
Wednesday 26th June 7.00pm : UKS2 (current Year 4 & Year 5 children)
The meeting for parents/carers of children starting in the Reception class (current Ducks class) will take place in school on Friday 28th June at 9am.
All children will spend the morning in their new classes on Wednesday 3rd July when most of the Year 6 children will be visiting their new secondary schools. Annual reports will be sent home on Tuesday 9th July and there will be an opportunity for parents/carers to visit their child(ren)'s new classroom on Wednesday 17th July between 3.30pm and 3.45pm.
There will be no after school clubs running in the last week of the Summer term (week of 15th July) so all children will need to be collected at the end of the school day (3.30pm).
If you have absolutely no alternative childcare until 4.30pm on that week, please contact the school office and we will try and assist. There will be NO childcare available on Friday 19th July.
We have a huge amount of lost property which is currently on display at the front of the building. The vast majority of items (many of which are costly to replace) are completely unnamed so if you are missing any items of school clothing, it may be an idea to check the pile.
