Newsletter 22.9.2023
Dear Parents and Carers,
The last couple of weeks have seen the children settle back into new school routines in their classes and I am so proud of the way they have done this. The school has a calm feel with children across the school focused on their learning and trying their very best. So many stickers and house point certificates have been awarded already; well done everyone! One of our focus areas this year is to support children's presentation in their books and I was delighted to see so many children as I popped into lessons taking great pride in their work. I will share with you our other whole school priorities in due course to enable you to see the direction that the school is moving in. Thank you to those of you who have provided feedback to our whole school vision statement; some of your comments have been truly heartwarming. I feel very privileged to work with such supportive families across our community.
This week so many of our Year 4 children put themselves forward in the hope of becoming a Year 4 Ambassador. I was blown away by the response and the efforts that they went to with their speeches. They all spoke about our Lark Rise values and how they would uphold them along with our school rights and rules; I could not be prouder of them and how brave they were to speak so formally to an audience. The votes are still coming in and will be announced in assembly at the end of next week. We have lots of other exciting opportunities coming up for school leadership positions; please see details below on the flyer created by our Digital Leaders in case your child would like to apply.
This week our Year 5 children have been fortunate to have the opportunity to take part in Bikeability which prepares them for cycling out on the roads safely. Congratulations to all the children that took part and achieved their level 2. Next week our Year 4 children will have the opportunity to achieve their Level 1. We are looking forward to providing many of these 'magic moments' opportunities throughout the year which create memorable learning experiences for our children.
Finally, we finished the week with an assembly delivered by Keech Hospice to introduce The Short Tail Trail fundraising event which we are delighted to be involved in again this year after the success of The Big Trunk Trail last year. We are looking forward to discussing fundraising ideas so watch this space.

Lost Property & Naming Clothing
We have a HUGE amount of clothing already in the Lost Property box which at this early stage in the year is unbelievable. Unfortunately the vast majority of clothing is unnamed which means it cannot be returned to its rightful owner. We are well aware that school uniform is a costly item so we are concerned that children are unable to retrieve their items if they are unnamed. Please could you ensure that ALL items of clothing brought into school are clearly named.
Next week (week commencing 25th September), we will be taking part in Cycle to School week where children are encouraged to cycle or scoot to school.
Thank you to those parents/carers who have already completed the Google form to give feedback on our Vision Statement for this academic year. Any further feedback is welcomed until the end of the day today (Friday 22nd September).
Each week in our whole school assembly we celebrate children's attendance by playing a game of Attendopoly (based on Monopoly). The class with the highest attendance figure is rewarded with a class prize.
The winning classes for the last two weeks were:
Week of 4th September : Macaws class with 100% attendance.
Week of 11th September : Falcons class with 100% attendance.
Family Photos
Our school photographer (Victoria Mitchell) is offering families the opportunity to have some informal family portraits taken during the morning of Saturday 4th November (9am to 11am). If you would like to take advantage of this opportunity (possible Christmas gift idea), please email the school office to book an appointment.
Jemma has some spaces available for piano lessons this academic year. Please contact Jemma direct for further details.
The class assemblies to which parents/carers are invited have been added to the school calendar which can be accessed via the Diary Dates tab at the top of the newsletter.
The assemblies planned for the Autumn term are:
Eagles : Friday 6th October
Hawks : Friday 13th October
Falcons : Friday 24th November
Please ensure that any packed lunches brought into school are offering your child a healthy, balanced midday meal. A reminder that they should not contain any sweets or chocolate although a chocolate item which can be found in the biscuit aisle in a supermarket is acceptable. It has been brought to our attention that some children have multiple items of sugary treats in their lunch box which does not form part of a healthy balanced lunch. Please also ensure that no nut items are included as we are a nut free school.
As you will be aware, all children in Reception, Years 1 and 2 receive a free school meal under the Government's "Universal Infant Free School Meals" initiative. However, some children will also qualify for Income/Benefit Related free school meals due to their personal circumstances. Whilst this does not affect your child's receipt of a free meal, if you are registered for free school meals via Central Beds Council, the school will receive additional funding. This funding is known as Pupil Premium and brings in up to an additional £1320 per child that is registered.
We can use the extra funding in any way we choose to improve the quality of our children's education. This could include intervention and support for individual and small groups, additional training for staff and financial support for parents for educational visits and after school provision.
If you think you may be eligible, please visit the following www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/info/53/benefits/4/free_school_meals/3 and apply accordingly on the Central Beds Council website. If you apply and find out that you are eligible for the extra funding, please contact the school office when you receive notification that your child qualifies for Free School Meals. Whatever the outcome of your application (whether you qualify or not) it will not affect any other benefits that you may receive.
