Newsletter 19.9.2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had a busy fortnight getting stuck into our curriculum across the school for the autumn term and focusing on lots of key areas that we know support the children in being happy and successful. Next week we will be sharing with you some of our key documentation which support us to run the school effectively alongside you our parents and carers; Home School Agreement, Parents and Carers Involvement Policy and Chromebook Code of Conduct. A Google form will be sent out to confirm that you have read these in the next few days.
This week our Year 5s have been completing their Level 2 Bikeability certificate and have learnt important cycle safety skills equipping them to get out and about safely. Next week our Year 4 children will receive their turn in honing their cycling skills!
At Lark Rise we are fortunate enough to have two Assistant Headteachers who support me in the day to day running of Lark Rise and strategic decisions. Currently, Mrs Waterman is also supporting me twice a week with the leadership of Ardley Hill which is excellent development for her and great news for our whole school community. We have considered succession planning at Lark Rise and backfilled our staffing in order to support this decision. Working collaboratively in this way ensures good practice can be shared across our schools.
For upcoming events and dates, please use the diary dates link at the top of this newsletter which will take you to our diary on our website. Don't forget to follow us on social media if you have a Facebook or X account (formally Twitter) to see photos and news about recent events in school.

Thank you for the donations of school uniforms for our Grab & Go events, we now have a huge stock so are unable to accept any further donations at the moment.
Right now, a family with your children in your community struggles alone with sickness, disability, mental ill-health, isolation, bereavement and more. You can make a lastly difference in their lives. You don't need any special qualifications, just real-life experience caring for children. You just need a couple of hours available, on a week day once a week. The time is flexible to suit you.
Our local volunteers are parents, grandparents and caregivers from all walks of life who want to help others. Join us today because childhood can't wait. Visit www.home-startbedfordshire.org.uk and get in touch. We would love to speak to you!
Please note that the date for the Autumn Term Stop, Drop and Read will be Wednesday 15th October from 3.00 - 3.30pm. Further details to follow.
Thank you to those parents/carers who have expressed an interest in attending the FALLS meeting which will take place in school on Thursday 25th September at 6.30pm. We look forward to seeing you there.
Fisherman's Friends
This half term the children started off with our musical heroes assembly by finding out about 'The Fisherman's Friends.' We thought it would be fun to learn a little bit about this folk music group from Port Isaac, Cornwall, who sing sea shanties and then have a try ourselves! They have been performing locally since 1995, and then signed a very unexpected record deal with Universal Music in March 2010. Their songs brought so much joy to their beloved communities and we hope it will do the same here. The children started off by singing a well known sea shanty 'What shall we do with the drunken sailor' and then moved onto some body percussion with the well known hit 'Wellerman.' The children blew us away when they burst into song to sing us out; fantastic! See if you can have some fun at home singing sea shanties together or even make up some of your own.
Lark Rise Children
This week, we joined in with people from across the world to celebrate Dot Day. This is a celebration of creativity and art and looks at how we can make the world a more colourful place. Having read the story of The Dot by Peter Reynolds, we realised that we can all be artists. With this in mind, the children were told that they are ALL our Art Heroes for this term!
They have been set the challenge of creating a dot to add to our whole school display using whatever media and resources they would like to. The children were encouraged to 'Make their mark' and see where it took them. We can't wait to see their incredible artwork.
