Dear Parents and Carers,
We are looking forward to what the spring term has in store and hopefully some warmer weather! We are looking forward to the learning opportunities available to the children during this term; our learning overviews emailed out to you all last week provide further information on the different concepts that your children will be learning in each subject.
Our value this half term is 'happiness'. I introduced the children to this value in assembly last week through the book 'Where happiness begins' by Eva Eland. The children were so reflective when thinking about genuine happiness and were able to consider that it is concerning yourself and what you enjoy doing and that it could not be found in materialistic things; I was blown away by the maturity of their comments and the way they built on the thoughts of others.
This week the children in Year 6 have sat a mock SATs paper. Once again we are truly impressed with their concentration and focus which have led to some remarkable results and progress with a large proportion of children already achieving the expected standard. This is testament to their hard work, an enriching curriculum and incredible teaching and learning opportunities provided; well done Year 6!
Over the last two weeks, children who are not on our Read Write Inc phonics programme have been completing our half termly Accelerated Reader assessments. Please look out for your child's new ZPD in their planners or on their bookmarks which gives them a suggested range of book to read from. Please remind children at home to complete their quizzes after finishing a book when returning to school; then they are able to self select a new book from their key stage library. Daily reading at home is vital for the children to continue to develop their language, knowledge and overall confidence. We fully appreciate all the support our children receive with this at home in order to help them flourish.
Finally, it was lovely to finish the week with Peacocks class assembly. The children did a fantastic job of showcasing their learning which really captured the celebration of different cultures and history that we immerse the children in as well as the fantastic writing opportunities; I hope that all of our parents and carers that attended enjoyed it as much as I did.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you and the children on Monday.

Each week in our whole school assembly we celebrate children's attendance by playing a game of Attendopoly (based on Monopoly). The class with the highest attendance figure is rewarded with a class prize.
The winning class for the last couple of weeks was:
Week of 16th December : Red Kites class with 98.3% attendance
Whole school attendance : 91.5%
Week of 6th January : Owls, Peacocks & Red Kites classes with 100% attendance
Whole school attendance : 98%
Our whole school target attendance for this academic year across all classes is 97%.
Bake Sale
We will be organising a bake sale to raise money for school funds on Friday 31st January. This will take place outside the main entrance to school at the end of the school day.
Donations of cakes for the sale would be gratefully received on the morning of 31st January.
Watch out for the childrens' posters with further details.
Learning Review Meetings
Learning Review meetings will be held on Wednesday 22nd & Thursday 23rd January from 3.45pm to 7.00pm. This will be an opportunity for you to discuss the progress that your child is making in English and Maths. Online bookings are now open on Schoolcloud. Meetings will be face to face in the school hall and will last 5 minutes per subject; we would appreciate your support in sticking to your allotted 5 minutes to ensure we can run to time as best as we can. Thank you in advance for your support with this.
We would be grateful to receive any age 5/6/7 boys or girls school trousers to use as spares in school.
As part of our support for the CHUMS charity who are offering support for some children in school, we will be taking part in their 'Shine Bright Wear Bright’ event to raise money for CHUMS. We will be having a non uniform day on Friday 7th February 2025 which is during Children’s Mental Health Week.
There will be a £1 donation towards the charity - details of how to pay will be sent out nearer the time.
Bob Marley
This term we are focussing on the music of the legendary Jamaican singer and songwriter Bob Marley. Considered one of the pioneers of reggae, he fused elements of reggae, ska and rocksteady and was renowned for his distinctive vocal and song writing style. In celebration of his 80th birthday this year, the children of Lark Rise will be taking part in a very exciting live music event run by Young Voices. This will be a worldwide event and the children will be linking up with other children from around the world to sing and dance to songs such as 'Get up, Stand up' and 'One Love.' We hope that you will enjoy singing and dancing along to these with your children at home this term.
