Dear Parents and Carers,
I can't believe how quickly we have come to the end of the first half term; it has gone by so quickly yet so much has been achieved! Last week our Year 6 children completed their first mock SATs. We were delighted with their maturity and independence and they are already demonstrating excellent attainment and progress; well done everyone!
Last week I absolutely loved watching Hawks class assembly! It was a fantastic showcase of their learning so far this year; thank you to all of our families that managed to attend.
A huge thank you to our parents and carers who attended the 'Stop, drop and read' session on Wednesday afternoon. The children were delighted to invite you into school to read with them or to them. Reading to your child or alongside your child is such a special part of them growing up and it's a fantastic way to connect with your child to strengthen bonds and relationships as well as develop skills and a love for reading. If you were unable to make this session then our next one will take place in the spring term, dates are available on our diary.
Thank you to all of our parents and carers who attended our learning review meetings this week. These initial meetings are designed to inform you on how your child has settled into their new classes. Maths and English learning review meetings will take place at the start of the Spring term with your child's Maths and English teacher. Please see further opportunities on our diary dates throughout the year where we will inform you of your child's progress.
We have continued to provide enrichment opportunities across the school, also known as 'magic moments'. This week the children were highly engaged in an assembly linked to Biology week and all about our climate. Some of our children enjoyed being part of the carbon cycle which was excellently explained by Mrs True. Mrs True always has an incredible way of imparting scientific knowledge to our children and this assembly was no different. This week Key Stage One visited Whipsnade Zoo linked to their science learning. Thank you to all of our parents and carers who accompanied us on the trip, we would not be able to provide these opportunities without you.
Finally, I'd like to finish this half term with thanks to the children and staff. This half term has got off to a great start and that is all down to the amazing work that the staff do day in and out to support the children to be the best they can be! The children are an absolute delight to work with. One more week to go!! Please make sure they rest over the half term and spend time with loved ones.
Mrs Romina Lang
Headteacher

We have had a complaint from a resident in Bowland Crescent about parents/carers parking on the pavements. Please could we ask for consideration when parking in the neighbouring streets and not block pavements to allow pedestrian access.
Flu Vaccination
The flu vaccinations for children from Reception to Year 6 will be administered on Wednesday 12th November by the school nursing team. Only children with parental consent will be vaccinated - further details to follow.
Transfer to Secondary School
The closing date for Transfer to Secondary School (current Year 6 children) is 31st October 2025. It is strongly recommended that you name your nearest school as one of your preferences. It’s important to consider using all three preferences and to name three different schools. If your other choices are full and you haven’t listed your local school, your child may be allocated a place much further away.
By law, places must be allocated to pupils whose parents/carers have expressed a written preference for that school ahead of those who have not. Any application received after 31st October 2025 will be considered LATE. Please also consider the home to school transport policy for September 2026 when making your application, the policy can be accessed via Apply for school transport | Central Bedfordshire Council
As the weather is turning colder and wetter, please can you ensure that all children have a coat in school. The children will not be allowed outside a breaktime or lunchtime without a coat.

We are delighted to have achieved School Games Gold standard validation for our PE curriculum and involvement by the children in inter-school competitions.
The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
A huge thanks to Miss Klausner for all her hard work in putting together the evidence to achieve this standard and for her enthusiasm with the children both in their PE lessons in school and participation in out of school events.
There will be a non-uniform day on Friday 24th October for Yellow house, the winning house of the house competition for the first half of the autumn term.
