Dear Parents and Carers,
We are fully in our assessment zone at Lark Rise and this week saw the start of the assessment period with our Year 6 children completing their Standard Assessment Tests (SATs). I have been so proud of their focus and concentration to date; they are a fantastic cohort of children who have tried their very best throughout the year and this week was no exception. Governors and members of the Lark Rise community visiting to support the invigilating of the tests commented on how smoothly SATs week was run and the exemplary attitudes and behaviour of the children. The children all presented as calm and focused and we cannot ask any more of them than that! Their resilience and determination is astounding and we hope that they can take these attitudes with them as they face new challenges at secondary school. We were delighted to reward the children with a trip to the zoo today in recognition of their hard work which they thoroughly deserve. Thank you to all of our parents and carers for the support you have given your child at home in order to make sure they were confident and well prepared for these assessments; your support is hugely appreciated. Finally, a thank you to the whole staff team who all play a part in ensuring the children are well equipped with the knowledge and skills as they move through the school in order to demonstrate what they have learnt during these tests; everyone contributes to this. A special thank you to Mrs Francis and Mrs White along with the rest of the Upper Key Stage 2 team who have supported the children so well this year, both academically and socially, they are an incredible team who always put the needs of all the children first and strive for every child to reach their full potential.
It was lovely to see so many parents and carers at our Stop, Drop and Read event at the end of last week; the children love having you in their classrooms for an opportunity to share a favourite book. I hope you enjoyed looking at the collaborative art work in the hall as you passed through to celebrate Sir David Attenborough's 100th birthday - thank you to Mrs Shilvock and Mrs True for organising such a lovely day for all of the children.
With one more week to go, this half term has gone by in a flash! I am sure that you will all make the most of the week off with your children. The final half of the summer term is set to be filled with many more exciting learning opportunities and magic moments for the children - watch this space!
I hope you all have a lovely weekend and I look forward to seeing you next week.
Mrs Hannah Hartley
Head of School

We will shortly be holding our half termly sports and house assembly. As well as celebrating the winning house and exploring our sports values, we also like to celebrate children's sporting achievements outside of school. If your child has a sporting success that they would like to share with us, then please email over a photo along with the reason for us to share.
Your emails will need to be with us by 9:00am on Monday 18th May in order to be included in the assembly.
We are occasionally asked for contact details of childminders who are able to support parents of children attending Lark Rise. If you would like to add your details to our list, please email the school office so that we have an up to date list.
The school photographer will be in school on Tuesday 19th May to take whole class photographs of the children in Nursery (Ducks & Ducklings) and Reception (Owls and Robins) and on Wednesday 20th May for children in Years 1-6. Children should wear their school uniform on this day including shirts and ties for children in Upper Key Stage 2. If your child has PE on this day, they should come into school in their uniform and bring their PE kit to change at school.
Chromebook Scheme Parent Workshops
A reminder that the parent workshops to showcase how the 1:1 chromebook devices are allowing the children to use technology to enhance their learning will take place on Tuesday 19th May from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. Parents will be invited into several classrooms to see different aspects of technology being used and will have an opportunity to ask any questions about the 1-1 chromebook scheme. This event is for parents of children currently in Year 2 and above (Year 3-6 in September).
We are delighted to have earned the School Games Gold Award. This is an award for schools in England to assess and celebrate their commitment to competitive sports and physical education. A big thank you to all the children who have helped and taken part in these competitions and parents/carers for being so supportive.
Last week, we were lucky enough to celebrate Sir David Attenborough's 100th birthday in school. This started with a fantastic assembly where the children shared all their knowledge about Sir David and the contributions he has made to spreading the message of sustainability across the world. We then enjoyed a live assembly with Steve Backshall and all the children contributed to our whole school artwork which has been displayed in the hall this week. Children have also been rescuing insects around the school grounds and moving them to the bug hotels in order to support our school's biodiversity.
There will be a change to the advertised menu on Thursday 21st May which is the school termly census day from which our school funding is determined. If your child would like to have the census day menu, please choose the main course option on that day on MCAS (NB it will say Minced Beef & Onion Pie on the system as we are unable to change it).
The following children have consistently demonstrated good behaviour choices during the first half of the Autumn term:

Abigail
It has been lovely to watch Abigail’s confidence steadily grow throughout her time in Nursery. She regularly participates in our weekly ‘Show and Tell’ sessions, displaying determination to push through her comfort zone to speak in front of the class. We have also been very impressed with how well Abigail has been able to demonstrate her maths knowledge. She can always be relied on to participate during maths sessions and activities with enthusiasm. Keep up the great efforts Abigail!
Kylen
Kylen is a kind, caring and quiet member of the class. He can always be relied on to follow our rules and tries his best in all he does. It has been wonderful to witness his confidence blooming throughout the year. He has developed some lovely friendships where he talks and plays collaboratively with his friends. He has also been putting his hand up to join in and answer questions during carpet sessions. Well done Kylen!
Rosie
Rosie has shown significant progress with coming into school in the mornings, after occasionally finding it tricky and becoming quite emotional when saying goodbye to whoever had dropped her off. However we are pleased to say that Rosie can now be seen skipping into school with a beaming smile - which is so lovely to see. She is excited to see her friends and teachers and gets straight to work- finding her name and writing words in her red book. Alongside this, Rosie used to find leaving the classroom for her phonics sessions a little overwhelming- especially going into KS1. After showing fantastic perseverance, Rosie is now shining again during phonics and making great progress with reading and writing! Well done Rosie. We are proud of you.
Ekam
Ekam is one of our quieter members of Robins class and has been, at times, a little reluctant to fully participate in classroom discussions. We are impressed with how Ekam is now ‘finding his voice’, talking and playing with friends and interacting with others who are out of his comfort zone. It is wonderful to see him beginning to volunteer contributions during carpet sessions and we would love to see this continue! Overall we are pleased to say that Ekam’s confidence is gradually growing in all aspects of school life, and look forward to seeing this blossom even more during the summer term. Well done Ekam!
Lara
Lara occasionally finds it a little tricky to come into school in the mornings. She has shown that she has developed such resilience and been so brave over time. Now, as soon as Lara has stepped over the door mat, she has settled in the classroom, put her belongings away and started her morning task. Keep being a brave girl and coming into school with a super smile. Well done Lara for being so resilient!
Danisha
Danisha is a wonderful girl who always follows the class and school rules. It has been wonderful to witness Danish’s confidence grow when she is communicating with her peers and teachers. Danisha will happily show the adults the lovely pictures that she creates and answer questions about them. Danisha is enjoying so many activities in the classroom with her friends; talking together and acting out different scenarios in the role play area. We are really proud of you Danisha! Well done.
KS1
Nathan
It is such a testament to Nathan’s character that he has integrated so beautifully into our class family. Joining a new school mid-year can feel like a mountain to climb and, while he understandably took a little time to find his footing, he has blossomed in a way that feels like he’s been with us since day one. Nathan possesses a gentle, reflective nature that is truly his superpower; he has this wonderful ability to observe the world around him and move forward with a quiet, steady confidence that is so inspiring to see. He has formed such heartwarming friendships, and there is nothing quite like the sound of him laughing and sharing a moment with his peers. Nathan, you are a genuine superstar. Your smile has a way of brightening everyone's day, and your calm, kind presence makes you a friend that others truly cherish. We are so proud of the unique and wonderful person you are!
Ella
It is truly a joy to watch Ella navigate the world with such a graceful and grounded sense of resilience. She understands that being "strong" isn't about being the loudest in the room, but about the consistent kindness she offers her peers and the quiet bravery she shows when facing a challenge. Whether she is diving into a critical thinking challenge or exploring a new concept, she leans into the learning with an infectious enthusiasm, never deterred by mistakes but rather fueled by them. What makes her truly stand out is the beautiful balance she strikes between her own confidence and her respect for others; she finds her voice with ease, yet she listens with a sincerity that is rare for her age. By valuing her friends' perspectives as much as her own, she creates a space where everyone feels heard. In her constant, gentle pursuit of being the "best version of herself," she doesn’t just succeed—she inspires everyone around her to try a little harder and care a little more. Well done Ella, you truly are a phenomenal human being!
Dolly
Dolly, it is wonderful to be your teacher because even if you find something really tricky you show such a fantastic attitude and a strong determination to succeed. Your conscientious nature shines through in all that you do and you always make me smile when you ask if you can do any jobs just because you love to be helpful. It’s so lovely that you never give up and always try your best and that other teachers that come into Hummingbirds notice this about you as well. I hope this admirable trait always stays with you as I know you will have great success with such a positive outlook. Well done Dolly!
Keisha
Keisha, who has recently joined the school, has shown wonderful resilience as she has settled into life at Lark Rise Academy. Despite the challenges of unfamiliar routines and friendships, she approaches each day with a positive attitude and a willingness to try her best. Keisha you have demonstrated great perseverance in your learning even when it can feel difficult and I have seen you flourish in confidence particularly in Maths. It has been lovely to see you grow and adapt so quickly and we are all so proud of you. Well done Keisha!
Giorgio
Giorgio, your hard work is an inspiration to everyone in our classroom. What makes you stand out is your commitment to giving your absolute best, regardless of the task at hand; you have a wonderful ability to stay focused and driven even when a concept doesn't come easily to you, always pushing yourself to reach that next level. This "never give up" attitude is your superpower, and it is a joy to see you tackle every challenge with such steady persistence. Beyond your academic efforts, your golden heart truly defines you. You move through the school day with a gentle kindness that extends to both your peers and every adult you encounter. Whether you are offering a helping hand or a thoughtful word, your caring nature makes you a friend to be cherished. Giorgio, we are so proud of the hard-working, compassionate person you are. Keep shining!
Pearl
Pearl, it has been such a joy to watch you truly find your voice and "come out of your shell" this year. There is a newfound sparkle in your confidence that is wonderful to see, especially in the way you now eagerly share your ideas and answer questions during our class discussions. It takes a special kind of bravery to step forward and let your thoughts be heard. Beyond your growing confidence, you are such a consistently hard-working member of our class. Your dedication to your learning is quiet but powerful; you settle into every task with a focused determination to do your very best. This beautiful blend of a strong work ethic and your blossoming self-assurance is a fantastic foundation for everything you will achieve. Pearl, your progress this year is something you should be incredibly proud of—your quiet strength and hard work make you a truly valued member of Parrots. Well done, Pearl!

Blake
Blake can find practising his handwriting tricky at times but he has been trying so hard this half term when completing our handwriting sessions in English. He tries his best to keep the letters or parts of the letters that need to be in the ‘jam or sponge cake’ where they need to be. Sometimes he can become frustrated with himself during the handwriting sessions because he wants it to be perfect but this doesn’t stop him. He never gives up; showing true resilience! Well done, Blake - keep it up and before you know it your handwriting will be unrecognisable!
Winter
Winter has been working so hard this half term in all her lessons. Focusing on her presentation and putting everything she’s learnt into practice. It has been wonderful to watch Winter’s efforts each and every day. Never giving up, even when things get tough. Well done for always persevering and pushing through those difficult feelings that sometimes make us want to give up as it’s never easy. Well done, Winter! A real go getting of our class - oozing resilience!
Wren
Wren is always a hardworking and determined learner in the classroom. This half term, she came face-to-face with something new that stumped her a little bit: fractions. In the middle of a maths lesson at the beginning of the unit, Wren said one of the bravest things a child can say in a classroom – “I don’t think I understand.” Despite finding something tricky, Wren was absolutely determined that she would not be put off and arrived at her maths lessons each day with a renewed sense of resilience. As the unit has progressed, not only has Wren shown that she DOES understand fractions, but she has kept ‘having a go’, putting her hand up to check her new skills and taking real risks in the classroom. Wren is a real-life example of the fantastic things that can happen if you just refuse to give up.
Beau
Beau works consistently hard in all of her learning; she is always such a happy learner who wants to try her best and continue to make progress. One area Beau finds tricky is reading but she NEVER lets this put her off. Every day, she completes her reading with a smile and is often changing her reading book that she has completed at home and during reading sessions at school. Beau - the way that you try every day, without fail, is a testament to your resilience and positive spirit!
Celeste
Celeste, you have been such a brave explorer in the classroom lately!I am so incredibly proud of the way you have tackled the tricky bits - such as in Maths where it wasn’t particularly a subject you found easy. Hearing you now say how much you enjoy your learning makes me so happy. You have truly come out of your shell and found your sparkle. Keep shining, keep being brave and never forget how brilliant you are.
Isabella
Speaking up in class can sometimes be quite scary, but you have shown everyone just how brave you are. I am so proud of the way you have found your “big voice” lately. I know it can feel a bit wobbly when we aren’t sure if an answer is right, but you have stayed so positive and taken every challenge on the chin. Watching your face light up with pure excitement when you solve a tricky question is so rewarding to see. Keep shining.
UKS2
Flynn
Flynn’s transformation as a writer has been nothing short of remarkable. He has poured countless hours into mastering the craft, moving past simple sentences to find his own unique voice and flair. Writing requires a specific kind of patience—the willingness to draft, edit, and rethink—and Flynn has tackled this challenge head-on. Watching his confidence bloom alongside his technical skill has been a highlight of his progress this year.
Laila
It takes a special kind of character to look at "amazing" and decide it’s simply a starting point, but that is exactly what makes Laila the perfect candidate for the Resilient Roo award. Laila doesn’t just "do the work"; she embraces the grind, tackling complex problems and refining her skills with a level of grit that is wonderful to see. Laila’s resilience shines through in every lesson proving that true excellence isn’t just about the final score—it’s about the unwavering determination to better oneself every single day.
Riley
I am so proud of the way you have tackled reading this year! At the start of the year, there were times when you were reluctant to read, but because you stayed so determined and kept trying, you’ve unlocked a love of reading. You’ve shown that with a little bit of resilience, you can master anything. Keep exploring a variety of different books and enjoy the many different adventures that they will take you on. Very well done Riley; we are all so proud of you.
Jack G
Jack, you are such an amazing boy who shows resilience in bucket loads every single day. It is not always easy for you coming into school, even though it is tough, you come into school everyday and you absolutely shine. This is true resilience! I want you to know how proud of you we are, well done Jack.
Eloise
Eloise - I am so proud of the determination you have shown with regard to your reading. I know that your previous SATs score was a disappointment to you but this did not deter you. Instead of giving up, you showed real determination to do your best, asking for strategies to help you improve your answers and putting your all into answering questions in class. This resilience and fortitude really paid off for you in the mock SATs when you received a worthy result. Well done Eloise - this is something to be really proud of.
Sarah
Sarah - I honestly could not ask for someone more determined and resilient to do their best in Maths class. As the year has progressed, you have grown in confidence and have shown that you want to be challenged and pushed in all your Maths learning. You are one of the first children to have your hand up in the class, always present your work to a high standard and are not afraid to ask for help if you are unsure how to tackle a problem. You are really starting to fly - well done and keep up the good work!
