Newsletter 8.7.2022
Dear Parents and Carers,
Today we have a enjoyed a lovely end to the week in our whole school awards ceremony. The children sat and listened so carefully to all of the truly lovely reasons attached to each award. Some of their faces were so surprised to hear that they had been chosen for an award; it was an fantastic morning and I felt like such a proud headteacher reading out the reasons that children had been nominated. The adults in school really do know your children very well and this shone through in their speeches. A huge congratulations to all of the children that received an award. The message to the rest of the children was a huge well done to them also. They have shown resilience and hard work during the first full year in school for 2 years, this in itself is a great achievement. You can find a list of all of our award winners and celebrations for this half term at the end of this newsletter. If your child has received an award then we will send you out the reason for the nomination in an email next week. They are all getting tired now and ready for the summer break but we are looking forward to lots more events over the next two weeks where we will all enjoy spending time together socially, learning together and saying goodbye to our leavers who are moving on to the next step of their learning journey.
As part of our ceremony this morning we were also pleased to be able to share the Sports day results, well done to Blue house for winning Sports Day overall. The results were extremely close which you will see below when you look at the winners across the key stages. Our overall House winner for the year was also announced; congratulations to Yellow House who have won the overall House competition this year and will be awarded with an outdoor fun day next Tuesday 12th July.
This week the children spent a morning in their new classes and enjoyed some time getting to know each other. As you know the children are grouped differently for English and Mathematics which means that over the course of the day your child will get to mix and develop relationships with a range of children within the key stage. As I went round the classes it was fantastic to see the children already really settled and enjoying their learning; well done everyone! The staff teams have spent a great deal of time organising the classes and considering the best possible formations; those that will benefit each and every child, ensure they are able to learn well and achieve their full potential as well as factoring in their friendship requests. Therefore, the class in which your child is placed is non-negotiable as changing a child to a different class would require a complete re-shuffle of all the children.
On Wednesday next week we are looking forward to sharing your child's end of year report with you where you can celebrate their efforts and personal progress that they have made over the year. On Thursday we are looking forward to seeing lots of you visit your child's new class. Further details are shared later in this newsletter.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend in the sunshine.
Mrs Romina Lang
Headteacher
A reminder that there is an an opportunity for parents/carers and children to visit the children's new classrooms on Thursday 14th July between 3.30pm and 4.00pm. During this time you will also have the opportunity to view your child's One Page Profile which they have started about themselves. They may also add to these in September but we felt this time would be a good opportunity for you to add anything that you feel would be helpful for us to know in order to support your child further at school. For our children in Early Years, these One Page Profiles have already gone home for you to record together with your child.
We will be saying goodbye to Mrs Carter (Early Years Teaching Assistant) at the end of the school year. Mrs Carter is leaving to take on a role with Central Beds Council.
Mrs Atif (UKS2 Teaching Assistant) is also moving to a full-time role in another local school.
We wish Mrs Carter & Mrs Atif every success in their new roles.
Mrs Berry's India Day
Thank you for supporting Mrs Berry's non-uniform fundraising day on 24th June which raised the grand total of £252.51.
We will be sending the children's books from last academic year home with them next week. Please can you send your child into school with a carrier bag early in the week so that we can package them up for you.
As you may be aware, Mrs Harling has taken on the role of Inclusion Support Worker. She will be working alongside Mrs Langford (our new SENDCo and Head of Inclusion) who will be joining the Lark Rise team in September.

EYFS
Dollie
On the whole, Dollie is a quiet and sometimes shy little girl. At the beginning of the year, she was quite reluctant to join in with class discussions or take part in class energizers. However, as time passed her confidence has slowly grown which is reflected in Dolloie trying hard to participate in phonics and more recently, successfully climbing over a ladder in PE which she had initially found tricky to do. She tried, then tried again and finally was bale to complete the challenge! Well done Dollie!
Oliver
Oliver is a lovely, energetic and enthusiastic child. Due to this he is always eager to give things a try, though, in the past, if he found something tricky such as holding scissors and cutting, he would give up and become a little sad that he couldn’t do it. However, the nursery staff have noticed a positive change in Oliver’s attitude towards tasks. He will now persevere through tricky activities such as writing his name and smile at his own achievements. We are proud of you Oliver!
Carter
Carter is a special boy who, throughout the year, has been quite poorly. His resilience has shone through each time that he comes back to school; quietly gets on with his learning and always does his best. Carter has particularly worked hard in Read Write Inc and use his Fred Talk skills to read words. We are so so proud of you Carter. Keep up the hard work.
Georgie
When Georgie started Lark Rise, she was a quietly spoken child. During the year her confidence has grown so much to be able to ask and answer questions and be more inquisitive with all areas of her learning. Georgie always tries so hard in all that she does. We are particularly proud of her phonics learning; showing that she is becoming more independent in her reading and writing skills. Well done Georgie. Keep up the hard work.
Benjamin
Benjamin occasionally finds some aspects of his learning a little more challenging and this year has worked particularly hard on developing his phonic skills. Benjamin has shown skills of perseverance to learn the sounds the letters make and use his ‘Fred talk’ skills to read words successfully. If Benjamin doesn’t read the work correctly he will try again and again until he can read it successfully. Keep trying hard. We are proud of you.
Kiaan
Kiaan has a fascination with numbers and enjoys all aspects of his learning. He is very keen to show the adults how he can complete addition number sentences, including 2 digit numbers, explaining how he worked them out. Kiaan likes to be challenged too! Sometimes the challenges are quite tricky and even though Kiaan might need a little support, he learns from this and then transfers the skill he has learnt to further number sentences. Well done Kiaan! We are so proud of you. You are a superstar!
KS1
Indiana
Indiana sometimes finds things tricky, whether it be her learning or during social time, but is becoming better at communicating her needs and recognising when she needs help or to make a better choice. She has been showing small steps of progress during her phonics and number learning when given close support and is persevering when she finds things tricky now, whereas before she would avoid anything challenging. She is learning from her mistakes in lots of areas and trying her best to put things right. Keep it up, Indiana!
Jack
We have been looking back over the past year in Parrots Class and it has been noted what a journey Jack has been on. Things that he found tricky to adjust to, like changes or certain situations, have become easier for him to manage now because of his resilience and perseverance both in his learning and other areas. Jack is even now showing support to his peers to help them make positive behaviour choices and push themselves in their learning in the classroom. Keep up the hard work, Jack. We’re so proud of you!
Alicja
Alicja has been finding coming into school a little tricky recently and is often upset when entering the classroom. Alicja has shown resilience when approaching the first lessons of the day to overcome her feelings, which then leads on to her having a great time in school and leaving with a smile on her face at the end of each day. Alicja tries so hard and her behaviour is impeccable….keep trying your best with a smile on your face.
Elizabeth
Elizabeth has found some of the more recent events in school difficult; our class assembly, sports day and our trip to the zoo. These have caused Elizabeth to be quite distressed, but with some gentle encouragement and support from staff and her parents she has overcome any nerves and enjoyed every single event; finishing each one with a great big smile on her face. Keep facing each day with a big brave smile Elizabeth.
Georgia
The children in Hummingbirds class have been reflecting on all the challenges they have overcome throughout the year and Georgia spoke to me about how she always wanted to help me hand out the books at the beginning of Autumn Term but struggled to read the names. I felt so proud of her as I know she loves to help out with anything she can and now after lots of work in Read Write Inc and studying the books carefully Georgia has overcome this difficulty and does this with ease. Well done Georgia what brilliant resilience and for such a thoughtful reason.
Alex
Alex spoke to me about how hard he found it to ride the trikes in the playground at the start of the year but he told me that he kept trying his best to get better by practising every day and now he flies around on them; fantastic! I have also noticed that when things don’t always go right for Alex with his learning how much more resilient he has become over the year and I am super proud of him!
LKS2
Logan
Times Table Rockstars is a fun game for lots of children but for others, it can be difficult. Logan found Times Table Rockstars difficult. But importantly, Logan didn’t give up. He came into class each day, got out a Chromebook and practised on his soundchecks. He did the same at home too. Logan has got better each day and the look on his face when he now scores top marks on his sound checks is just brilliant to see. Through Logan’s determination, he has learnt a very important lesson in life, that hard work really does pay off! Logan is also fantastic at sharing his TTR journey with others and encouraging them to log on too. Well done Logan!
Leo
Leo was not happy when his mum signed him up to attend TTR breakfast club. Leo has a really strong mindset though and he pushed this feeling of annoyance to the side and he worked hard. He completed every activity with determination and great effort. Well done Leo, through your positive attitude and determination, you have made great progress with your TTR recall, you should be really proud of yourself.
Onyin
When Onyin first started in Year 4, it is fair to say that times tables were not her favourite things to do. However, she quickly realised how important times tables are to lots of different areas of learning and started to approach them with a positive mindset and a great deal of determination. She quickly saw how regular practice helped her to make great progress. It was not always an easy journey, but Onyin showed such resilience and was unbelievably proud when she got her first 25 out of 25 for a soundcheck. Onyin, all of your teacher’s are so proud of you; Well done!
Olly
Olly is an amazing boy who demonstrates resilience everyday. I am so proud of the way he comes into school each day with a big smile and keen to learn something new. Over this year, he has worked so hard with Mrs Baker on the challenges that have been set for him and it is wonderful to see the progress that he has made towards the targets that have been set for him. Keep working hard Olly; you are a star!
Zain
Zain has impressed us all with his excellent attitude and hard work throughout the year. Zain has been working hard with Miss Clark to develop his Reading and Writing skills through his Read Write Inc sessions and he has not only shown resilience to succeed with this trickier learning but he has also demonstrated and modelled superb learning behaviours to his Read Write Inc partner; encouraging her to succeed as well…even if things can sometimes be difficult. Well done Zain; we are so very proud of you.
Lillia
Lillia enjoys learning and has demonstrated fantastic knowledge and recall of learning across the curriculum. However, Lillia can sometimes doubt herself; despite her many successes. We have been very proud of Lillia this year; she has worked well with adults who have helped Lillia to reflect on what she has succeeded in. For example, Lillia doubted herself a little with her times tables recall; despite achieving consistently high scores. Lillia proved to herself she was capable of anything and worked hard on her trickier questions (8x6!) through attendance at the times tables club and was able to recognise her achievements. Well done, Lillia!
UKS2
Enii
Since joining Lark Rise at the end of Spring term, Enii has consistently shown off her resilient nature. Enii is not afraid to ‘put herself out there’, embracing all extra-curricular activities that have been on offer. Enii wowed the crowd with her recent audition for the L factor, demonstrating how pursuing a passion can really pay off! It’s been lovely to watch your confidence grow and grow, Enii.
KC
What a truly resilient day KC had on his recent trip to Caldecotte. With a fear of water, KC arrived unprepared to take part in any of the water activities. However, after a wobbly start and some gentle encouragement by the adults, KC successfully joined in with paddle-boarding, raft building and canoeing. What a special moment it was when KC took stock of his accomplishments and voiced how proud he felt of himself. Well done, KC!
Jessica
This half term, Jessica has shown fantastic resilience in maths. The amount and quality of work she is producing has really improved and this is now reflecting in her confidence; it has been great to see her shine. Jessica often moves on to challenges after she has shown she understands and can complete maths fluency work. Well done Jessica.
Eloise
Eloise has really shown off her sporting achievements this half term. She has competed in both trampolining and gymnastics competitions outside of school at an extremely high level, which she has been working towards for a number of years. It was lovely to see her come into school with a number of medals for her achievements and efforts. Well done on your hard work Eloise.
Elsa
Elsa has shown a real resilience and consistency in effort during her Maths lessons all throughout the year. Recently, she struggled with the concept of translation and tried again and again until she was successful - a really determined attitude was shown and this will definitely stand her in good stead in her learning going forward. Well done Elsa!
Reggie
Reggie has worked consistently hard throughout the year in all his learning, especially in his recent SATs assessments. He has high expectations of himself and has strived to understand how he can understand something he has struggled with or, for example, how he can better a piece of writing. He has built up resilience when some results have not gone the way he would have initially wanted and strived hard to do better the next time. A great year of learning Reggie - well done!
