Newsletter 6.6.2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
We hope you all had a lovely half term break with your families. The children have settled back into the last half term of the academic year and we are preparing for lots of exciting end of year events! Please check the diary here which is linked to our website diary containing all the upcoming events; and those detailed further on in this newsletter; there are lots of them so be sure to add them to your diaries. We are looking forward to our annual summer party and getting dressed up in our festival attire. Thank you for supporting this event if you have purchased tickets already. I know the children will be excited to see lots of you coming to enjoy the afternoon with them; tickets are available for you to purchase on Parentmail and a Google form will be sent out next week so that we know which children we need to provide supervision for.
Our value this half term is 'hope'. I enjoyed reading the book, 'Last: the story of a white rhino' by Nicola Davies, to the children on Monday to support their understanding of hope and its importance. The children were very touched by the story of the last southern white rhino which is now extinct and I was impressed with their empathy and understanding of how hope for our future linked to sustainability is so important. It is a great book for provoking conversations with the children and also left them with lots of questions to explore. The children will continue to reflect on this value with their teachers in their classes for the rest of the term.
Today we welcomed back our Year 5s who have arrived home after a jam packed French adventure. I know lots of you have been following their travels on social media, please take a look if you have not already seen the photos, you will see from their faces how much fun they have had making memories that last a lifetime from fun at the theme park to croissant making! Thank you to all of our parents and carers that have supported this trip by sending your child. Our residential trips are such a worthwhile experience for the children which support their confidence, resilience, independence and so much more; we absolutely love providing these opportunities for the children to thrive. Without the incredible staff team at Lark Rise we would of course not be able to offer such opportunities; huge thanks to Mrs Francis, Mrs Gransby, Miss Hazell, Miss Skingle, Mrs Prew and Mrs Perkins for attending and providing all the care that the children needed whilst away. Thank you also to Mrs Hunt for her role in organising the trip; I am sure you can appreciate, a lot of work goes on behind the scenes before the trip takes place to ensure things run smoothly.
I am sure that you will have all by now seen the letter sent out to you all earlier in the week about the sad passing of Mr Stephen Fox the Headteacher at Ardley Hill Academy. I am sure that you will join me and the Lark Rise staff team in sending his family and school community our deepest condolences. I have spent some time at Ardley Hill this week in order to provide support for the leadership team and children while they are grieving.
Enjoy your weekend with loved ones and I look forward to seeing you all next week.
Mrs Romina Lang
Headteacher

Writing to be proud of (Year 5)
EYFS
Praneeth
Praneeth used to lack confidence and would be reluctant to participate in lessons. Recently we have noticed him joining in more readily and enjoying his learning. We have been so impressed with his focus in Read, Write Inc lessons and how many of the letters and sounds he knows. Socially, he has made a few good friends and it is wonderful to hear him use more talk in his play. It has been an absolute pleasure to watch Praneeth’s confidence grow in all aspects of school life. Well done, Praneeth!
Beatrix
It has been lovely to watch Beatrix’s confidence steadily grow throughout her time in nursery. She regularly participates in our weekly ‘Show and Tell’ sessions, displaying determination to push through her comfort zone to speak in front of the class. We have also been very impressed with how well Beatrix is progressing in Read, Write, Inc; here she sits with focus and joins in actively, recalling many letter sounds. Keep up the great efforts Beatrix!
Reggie
Reggie finds it quite tricky to sit and take part in carpet sessions. Recently, during Read Write Inc, Reggie has demonstrated that he can listen for a short period of time and then complete a short learning task, with adult support. Reggie is enjoying different art activities - attempting to cut and stick different shapes and paint pictures. This has been lovely to see, as his confidence has grown. Well done Reggie!
River
River has shown a keen interest in her Read Write Inc sessions; showing determination to recall the sounds when they are shown to her and then blending them together to read words quite quickly. River has developed a love of writing and is eager to write the captions and sentences in Read Write Inc. Sometimes the hold a sentence activities have been quite tricky, however River has repeated them many times and concentrated well to write them down. River has continued to show her love of writing by creating a story in her own time, proudly saying ‘I am an author.’ Well done River - keep up the hard work!
Cassie
Cassie is a fantastic little girl who has a great character. Cassie can worry about feeling comfortable when wearing certain items of clothing. This then affects her ability to feel happy and being able to concentrate to complete her learning activities. Recently, Cassie has skipped into school with a super proud smile on her face because she happily getting dressed in the morning and overcoming her worries. All of your adults are exceptionally proud of you Cassie . Well done!
Kayden
Kayden is doing exceptionally well in all aspects of his learning, especially in RWI where he has made phenomenal progress through grit and determination . Phonics sessions haven’t always come easy to Kayden and, in the past, it was tricky for Kayden to fully concentrate during lessons but you’d now never know with his fantastic, fluent reading , excellent partner work and superb effort in writing. Well done Kayden! Keep up all of the great work!
KS1
Viyan
This year Viyan has been on such a journey with his learning. It’s never easy making the leap from Reception to Key stage One but over the year it has been so beautiful to see Viyan find his voice and push through his reservations to stand up and be counted!I can’t tell you how much joy it brings us all to hear him sing up, speak out and push through the challenges that life brings. Viyan you are our Resilient Roo and I hope you know how proud of you we are.
Dollie H
Dollie is such a lovely helpful girl in Hummingbirds class. Over the year, I have seen how her quiet determination with her learning brings her success. Recently she has been giving reading her all in a bid to build up her fluency speed and I have had not only the pleasure of reading quietly with her just the two of us but I’ve also had the joy of seeing first hand her resilience when tackling more challenging vocabulary. Dollie I am beyond proud of you and I really hope you are proud of your achievements this year not least your beautiful resilience!
Alexandra
This last year has really demonstrated how resilient Alexandra is, she has found certain aspects of her learning tricky but has developed an incredibly positive attitude when facing her learning. She is determined to always try her best and seek help from those around her so that she can achieve success! Your caring nature is evident in all that you do and your love of reading is infectious, taking your quizzes has really helped you grow! We are so proud of you Alexandra, especially with how you always have such a lovely smile for every challenge you face!
Zara
Over the past year it has been amazing to see Zara really flourish with her learning. She is especially good at bouncing back and looking at setbacks as an opportunity for growth! She has found her maths to be a little tricky but knows that this is all part of our learning journey and that hard work really pays off! Zara, it is amazing to see you set your mind to something and make sure to always try your very best, you are a superstar and your resilience is such a credit to you! You are so kind and thoughtful and an absolute joy to have in any classroom, well done for all your hard work!
Otis
Otis has shown incredible growth in his resilience this year. He has been consistently working hard across all subject areas and approaches each challenge with determination. Otis is always willing to listen to feedback, taking it on board and making a conscious effort to apply it, which has significantly contributed to his progress within all areas of his learning. His perseverance and commitment to doing his best, no matter the task, has truly been wonderful to watch. Well done, Otis! We are so proud of you!
Reina
Reina has shown what incredible resilience she has built over the last year. No matter the task, she gives everything her best shot and even if she finds it difficult she will keep going. Her attitude to learning is admirable and her consistent effort is always there no matter the subject. Reina embodies positivity in her learning and it’s lovely to see her believe in her capabilities so much and keep going even if things get tough. Well done Resilient Reina - you are a star!
LKS2
Archie
Over the past couple of months the staff in Lower Key Stage 2 have been really impressed with Archie. He has developed a positive attitude to his learning and is showing such resilience in his work. He is pushing himself to read books by new authors and is trying so hard to extend his writing. I am particularly pleased with the learning that he completes in his History learning where he shows a great understanding of the topics we are learning about. He is working so hard on his writing in his theme books and we are so proud of him for this. Keep it up please Archie!
Anya
Anya is an amazing member of Red Kites Class! She is an incredible role model to others and comes into school each and every day keen to learn something new. Anya’s approach towards every task that is set for her is to always give it 100% and as a result of this she has produced some really wonderful work. She loves a challenge and will show such determination and resilience as she works towards achieving it. Her kind and caring nature means she can often be found supporting others in the class to ensure that they can achieve too. Well done Anya, I am so proud of you!
Zakariya
I am so proud of all that Zakariya has achieved so far this year. Zakariya has grown in confidence throughout Year 3, and this is because he has continually pushed himself outside of his comfort zone. Zakariya has shown that he is a wonderful friend, and has continued to build his friendships with others in LKS2. He has also challenged himself within the classroom where he is very proactive and will always share his excellent ideas with the class, especially in Maths. Well done Zak; you are a star !
Emily H
Emily is a fantastic learner in Macaws class. Not only is she incredibly enthusiastic about all of her subjects, but she is caring and kind to all around her. Emily has a positive, can-do attitude when completing her work and will always seek to challenge herself further. When faced with tricky questions, Emily is very reflective and is persistent in trying to get the correct answers and gain a solid understanding. This is true of her Maths work where Emily has made me so proud and shows amazing resilience and drive. Emily, you should be so proud of yourself!
Aaryav
Aaryav works with quiet determination across the curriculum. I have been so very impressed by how he has challenged himself to extend his writing this term. Across different genres, Aaryav has listened with keen interest so as to build up his knowledge and this is now showing clearly in his work; where he produces writing of an extremely high quality. In addition to this, he supports others to be resilient in their learning of computer skills by providing support in his role of Digital Leader. Aaryav is a wonderful role model to children across the school, well done Aaryav!
Harriet
Harriet has worked so hard to recall her times tables facts this year. Despite finding this tricky at times; Harriet embodied the definition of resilience by identifying her problem questions and striving to recall them with ease. This consisted of her writing them down and referring to them at home and school to speed up her quick and accurate recall. Harriet should be so proud of all that she has achieved. She is now regularly scoring very highly on our checks! Amazing work Harriet!
UKS2
Ayana
Ayana was very brave to tell the adults that she was nervous to go swimming this term - she wasn’t confident from her previous swimming lessons in her old school and it was her first time swimming at Dunstable Leisure Centre! Each and every week, Ayana has risen to the challenges that the swimming coaches have given her: she is now more confident in the pool, she is making progress in her swimming skills and, most importantly, she is smiling and having fun while doing so! I am so proud that, despite her nerves, Ayana has never once said ‘No,’ or ‘I can’t,’ - she has put her trust in the adults that are there to support her, knowing that the risk will pay off!
Max
Max is always a determined and focused learner but this half term I have seen this go to the next level in his maths learning! Max has shown real progress in his maths: he already had very strong and secure foundations in his skills but he has absolutely soared in his application of these skills to harder problems and more difficult questions. Max has had his hand up in lessons and, while working independently, has shown a quiet focus where I can see he is thinking deeply about his next step of progress in learning. He hasn’t once shied away from a challenge and, if he needs help, I can see he has already given it a go and tried to work through a problem. Well done Max - this resilience has been amazing to watch!
Chyna
From the moment she walked into my Maths class, Chyna has been a delight to teach. She listens intently to the teaching (with a quiet look of attention, taking in every word), takes on board all that she has been taught and tries to diligently apply it to her learning. She constantly strives to do better and likes to understand where she can make improvement - she often has her hand up to contribute to lessons or share her reasoning understanding. These traits of determination and independence of learning are fantastic to see and I know she will go far in all her subjects as she applies them going forward.
Nahul
Nahul is such an impressive young man in so many ways! He is always on hand in the classroom with help for any technical issues associated with the Chromebooks and enjoys sharing his knowledge and understanding. What I have really enjoyed seeing though, in more recent times, is his determination to make sure that his work is presented much more neatly to show off his learning to a higher standard. This has been really noticeable in Maths, where he makes a concentrated effort to think about his number formation and presentation. It has been lovely then to see his face light up when he is praised for this – keep up the great work Nahul. You have lots of great things to share with us!
Athena
I know you will find it very embarrassing to receive this award in front of the whole school but I really want other children to hear why you are so deserving of it. Athena’s work is always full of wonderful and intelligent ideas but she can find it tricky sharing her ideas with others. This term, Athena has really worked hard on this! First, she took part in the Apps for Good competition, where she worked in a team to present an idea for a new app. Then, she took part in a whole school assembly to talk about it too! Both are very difficult tasks if you’re not comfortable with public speaking. I am so proud of you Athena and I hope you feel very proud of yourself too.
Damian
Damian has worked incredibly hard this year in both English and maths. In English, Damian has become a confident editor, so much so that he can often inspire me to make changes to the examples I share with the class. This is something Damian has worked really hard to achieve and his latest piece of work is a real testament to his hard work and resilience. And he hasn’t stopped there! In maths, Damian has worked incredibly hard on his presentation and reasoning skills too and this has seen Damian become even more impressive with the ideas he shares. Hard work and resilience definitely pays off Damian. You should be really proud of yourself.
The following children have consistently demonstrated good behaviour choices during the first half of the Summer term:
