Dear Parents and Carers
I hope you all had a wonderful half term; it’s hard to believe we are now at the end of the second week of this half term already! The weeks are really flying by. The children have returned settled and the classrooms feel fantastic, with some amazing learning taking place. It is lovely to see some better weather and being able to take the children outside more to enhance learning opportunities; longer days are definitely upon us.
As always, there has been lots going on across the school - an assembly last week to support our whole school value of ‘peace’, where we learned about some significant activists who have been recognised for their campaigns for world peace with being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Key Stage One have visited the Priory Church to experience a place of worship to support their learning in RE and LKS2 have finished this week with their Greek Day; some super enrichment activities.
Mrs True continued to share her wealth of knowledge around sustainability in her assembly at the start of the week, with a focus on biodiversity. This links in nicely with the introduction of Science Week next week. The children are always keen to develop their understanding of the world around them and Science Week is a great way to enrich this learning.
Today we were able to watch Hummingbirds class assembly - another great event to show you, as parents and carers, all of the wonderful learning that is taking place. The children were confident and enthusiastic in their delivery; so lovely to see.
This week also saw us celebrating World Book Day - one of our favourite events of the academic year, as you know how much we all love reading and sharing good books. The children were able to explore a range of stories read by staff members in our popular Booknic in the morning and then share more reading with you in our Stop, Drop and Read event. Thank you if you were able to participate in this; the children love to have you in their classrooms to share their reading.
Miss Klausner has taken our children out to various different sporting events over the past couple of weeks; football, flag football and girls tag rugby - thank you to Miss Klausner for organising these and also to you for supporting your child to participate in these events.
Have a lovely weekend, which we hope has some sunshine!
Mrs Hannah Hartley

Non-uniform Day
Red to Toe!
To raise money to support Comic Relief Day on Friday 20th March, we would like to invite the children to come into school wearing items of red clothing in return for a donation of £1. There will be coloured coins available for anyone who manages to come into school Red to Toe in red!
In order to support our sustainability goals, we will be painting red noses on the children using face paint for only 50p. If you would like your child to take part in this then please fill in the Google form that will be sent to you to give your permission.
We have had concerns raised by some of our neighbours in Ullswater Road about cars being parked over their drives (on the H bars) and also on the pavement on the junction of Ullswater Road and Tarnside Close. Whilst as a school we do not have the manpower or jurisdiction to patrol this area, we ask for your cooperation to respect our neighbours' access to their own homes and also not block the pavements to ensure that parents and children can access the school environment safely.
Summer Uniform
After the Easter holiday (from Tuesday 14th April), children in Upper Key Stage 2 can wear a white polo shirt instead of the white collared shirt and tie (no ties are needed in the summer term). Children in Year 6 should however hang onto their school ties as they will be needed for the end of year leavers ceremony.
The children were introduced to this term's sustainability theme with an assembly earlier this week. We will be focusing on 'biodiversity'. We looked at the importance of food chains and how disruption to a food chain can impact entire habitats. We will be developing and encouraging further growth of the biodiversity at Lark Rise this term; the children were very excited to see the unveiling of two new hedgehog hotels and two new bug hotels which the eco-reps will take the lead on setting up!
The Supremes
Get ready to groove! This half term, we are travelling back to the swinging 60s to celebrate the icons of Motown, The Supremes. We will be listening to their classic hit, "You Can’t Hurry Love." Aside from being a fantastic song to sing along to, it is perfect for our musical focus this term: Rhythm. The children will be learning to find the pulse, clap along to that famous bassline, and keep a steady beat.
Our Design and Technology hero this half term is Boyan Slat, the Dutch inventor and entrepreneur who decided to tackle the world’s plastic crisis before he even finished high school. At age 16, while diving in Greece, Slat noticed he saw more plastic bags than fish. Instead of just being disappointed, he used his DT skills to rethink the solution. He founded The Ocean Cleanup at just 18 years old, moving away from the traditional idea of "fishing" for plastic with nets, which would harm marine life. Instead, he engineered passive, solar-powered floating barriers that use the ocean’s natural currents to concentrate and collect plastic.
Slat’s journey is a perfect example of the design process in action. His first massive prototype, System 001, faced major structural failures in the Pacific, but he didn't give up. He analysed the data, refined the tech, and launched System 03, which is now successfully capturing tonnes of debris. By combining environmental science with bold engineering, Slat shows us that DT isn't just about making products—it’s about designing a cleaner future for our planet.
Writing to be proud of (Year 4)
EYFS
Kevin
Kevin joined Ducks Class midway through the year. He did not know anyone and was used to an environment where his home language was used. We have all been so impressed with how quickly he settled and his keenness to join in. From day one, he was trying to sing along with days of the week and weather songs that we sing each morning. He puts in so much effort with attempting to use English words and is always eager to learn. What a great start, Kevin, we are so proud of you!
Molly
Molly was always a quiet member of the class who was shy to talk and worried about making mistakes. More recently we have been delighted to see her resilience shining through as she has taken risks and started to talk more. She can be heard playing and talking enthusiastically with friends in the role play area. We love that she enjoys coming to the adults for a chat. She is also trying to answer questions when talking one to one with an adult. We know that if you continue with such confidence, your speech will continue to develop. We are so proud of you Molly!
Ethan T
Ethan has shown great resilience this academic year with his writing skills. Although Ethan finds it a little tricky to hold a mark making tool, he gives it a good go and has made great progress to start to form letters correctly. Occasionally when the letters do not go the right way round, he doesn’t stop, he perseveres and practises to get it the right way round. Always keep trying your best and we know that you will achieve your goal. Well done Ethan!
Millie C
Occasionally, Millie found it a little tricky to leave her family in the morning and come into school, even though she enjoyed school when she was inside. Millie worked so hard and persevered to regulate her worries and her emotions and now she bounds into school each day, ready to complete her tasks and activities. Millie we are so proud of you; you thoroughly deserve to be one of our learning superheroes! Well done!
Alannah
Alannah has shown significant growth in regulating her emotions. Alannah loves school and learning but would often get upset if something was tricky, if a special friend was off school or if something wasn’t quite right. Alannah now enters our classroom with confidence and excitement and will verbalise any upset to a grown up who is then able to help and support her needs. We now see Alannah using her communication skills to avoid being overwhelmed and it is such a pleasure to see Alannah enjoying herself during all aspects of school life whilst being engaged in her learning. Keep being super brave! Well done, we are all proud of you!
Olive
We are so proud of how Olive has been following all of our classroom and school rules this year. She is consistently following our behaviour expectations. Olive used to find it a little tricky to remain focused and liked to have a chat with friends during carpet sessions or be easily distracted. This term, we are amazed by Olive and how she has been an absolute superstar. She is committed to her learning by becoming an active, attentive listener during all individual, small group and whole class tasks. This is having a wonderful impact on her learning. Well done Olive for your hard work and dedication
KS1
Aila
Aila has shown such fantastic resilience this year. She has approached all her work with a "can-do" attitude that is a joy to see. She brings incredible enthusiasm to every lesson, always participating with a bright smile and a ready hand. However, her true strength lies in her wonderful determination. Lately, Aila has been putting extra effort into her handwriting, focusing carefully on how she forms each letter and ensures they sit proudly on the line. Even when it feels tricky, she simply never gives up. I am incredibly proud of the progress she has made and the persistence she continues to show every day. You are a star, Aila —keep shining!
Filip
It has been wonderful to watch Filip work so hard this year and make such great progress. He is a gentle and quiet member of our class, but behind his calm nature lies great determination. This year, Filip has shown us all what it means to be a true "hard worker." No matter the task, he always gives his absolute best, approaching every challenge with a steady and focused mind. He is incredibly determined to finish every piece of work to the best of his ability, never rushing and always taking the time to get things just right. This dedication is most evident in his beautiful handwriting and wonderful presentation. I am so proud of the wonderful progress he continues to make. Well done, Filip!
Tymek
Tymek is a fantastic example of what can be achieved through sheer hard work and a positive attitude. Since September he has shown incredible determination during our phonic sessions and the results are truly wonderful to see. Tymek has developed a real flair for reading, tackling new sounds with confidence and bringing stories to life by reading with superb expression. It isn’t just his reading that has flourished; his effort has sparked a brilliant transformation in his writing ability too. Whether he is segmenting words or crafting sentences, Tymek never gives up and always strives to do his best. I am so proud of the massive progress he has made through his consistent effort and focus. Keep up the amazing work, Tymek!
Sophie
Sophie is the perfect example of what a resilient attitude can allow you to achieve! Writing has not always been the easiest subject for Sophie and she initially found it to be a real challenge. However, using support from her teachers and peers, she has developed a ‘I can do it!’ attitude to her learning, and her writing is fantastic! She has progressed so much and it has been like watching a flower bloom! In every aspect of her schooling, she is a positive ray of sunshine, always so kind and willing to go above and beyond to be the best version of herself! Sophie, you are truly a wonderful young lady and it has been a pleasure to teach you so far this year. Your kindness, resilience and joy make you shine like a superstar! Well done you!
Jacob B
Watching Jacob mature this last half term has been such an incredible sight to see! You have helped peers settle into the key stage and have made sure to do your very best in order to help others in any way that you can. He faces challenges and thinks ‘What can I do about this?’ rather than allowing himself to become overwhelmed. He shows creativity in finding solutions and can be incredibly flexible, always trying to do his best! He has such an infectious personality and by finding the joy in all he does has allowed him to burn as bright as a star! Jacob, we are so proud of all of your hard work and cannot wait to see all the wonderful achievements you will continue to make! Thank you for being you!
Emmeline
Emmeline you are such a bright light and always try your very best with everything that you do! Initially you were unsure of what it would be like in Key Stage 1 and now you are one of the most beloved members within any classroom you enter! You are so kind, considerate and hard working, always thinking about what you can do for others as well as being a fantastic advocate for yourself. You speak your mind and understand that your actions can have a tremendous impact on those around you. You have an incredibly infectious giggle and the positivity you exude allows us all to enjoy the learning we partake in together! Thank you for being the best version of yourself, you have the brightest future and we cannot wait to see how much you will continue to grow and thrive! The world would be a better place if everyone was a little more like Emmeline!
LKS2
Theo L
There are lots of skills that you need to learn for writing in Lower Key Stage Two and, as you build up more and more writing rules, one thing can often take a back seat: handwriting! This half term, Theo has shown a renewed enthusiasm and passion for ensuring that, not only does he develop fantastic descriptive ideas and remember his punctuation rules, but he also puts extra focus into his handwriting. All of a sudden, joined letters started appearing on Theo’s page and handwriting that was once not placed correctly is now clear and on the line. Theo has even been practising this skill at home which proves just how determined he is to make a difference!
Harry C
Harry is an absolutely fantastic example and role model to others of how transformative consistent daily reading can be. Each and every day, Harry uses the opportunities he is given to enjoy his reading books and frequently asks to change his books after completing them. Harry’s reading progress has soared since the start of the year and he is working his way through lots of different reading levels because of the consistency and determination he has put in. Harry - you have thousands of adventures waiting for you between the pages of books you are yet to enjoy; well done for working so hard to become the reader you are.
Daisy
It really is a joy having Daisy in the classroom everyday. Daisy has shown remarkable resilience this term, arriving with a bright smile on her face regardless of the challenge ahead. I am particularly impressed with Daisy's attitude towards learning in English. Whether it's participating in class discussions or diving into a big write, she shows a level of confidence which is truly inspiring, even when the work isn't always the easiest. Well done Daisy, it has been so lovely watching you grow.
Maja
What makes Maja a resilient roo is her graceful approach towards learning. Maja is a person who takes every challenge on the chin. Whilst she may not be the loudest voice in the classroom, her quiet determination speaks volumes. Maja genuinely strives to achieve her best in every task , and that consistent effort truly shines through in the quality of her work. Well done Maja, I am so proud of you!
Kaylan
Kaylan, it truly is so wonderful to teach you each and everyday. Your enthusiasm to all learning and your can-do attitude is something to be admired. No matter what you do, you never stop at the bare minimum. You keep going until you have put every bit of effort into your learning. Whether it's challenging yourself with spellings in English or a difficult arithmetic question in Maths you never give up! What’s even more amazing is that you always face these challenges with a huge smile on your face! You are such an inspiration to the whole of LKS2 - never change because you are a superstar!
UKS2
Izzi
It has been an absolute privilege to watch your approach to maths. You show incredible dedication and perseverance in every lesson. Instead of shrinking away from difficult problems, you’ve stayed the course, worked through the confusion, and have proved that hard work is the ultimate key to mastery. Your growth is a powerful reminder that with a focused mind and a can-do attitude, no hurdle is too high to clear.
Felicia
Seeing your beaming smile when you got your mock SATs results was such a beautiful moment. You have worked SO hard in every lesson to be even better than you already are and that has sometimes meant having to tackle really tricky topics. You should be so proud of what you have achieved and to top it all off, you have a heart of absolute gold too.
Elizabeth
The transformation in your relationship to your Mathematics learning is incredible to see. Whereas last year, you were not confident and required lots of adult support, this year has seen you blossom into a confident and articulate young lady, able to explain why you are doing what you are doing. If you come across an aspect of Maths that you still find difficult, you approach it with resilience and determination and try to pull on all your strategies to work out the best solution. Now your hand is up constantly, prepared to share your understanding - it is fantastic to see and I am really proud of your progress and understanding.
Oliver P
Oliver - your resilience and determination shine through in every English lesson that I have you for. I love the way you try to push yourself and think about how you can extend your thinking. Taking on feedback is something you tackle head on as a challenge to try to better yourself - what more could a teacher ask for? These great qualities, coupled with your dedication to your job as a Reading Ambassador make us very proud of everything you have achieved so far and I would encourage you to keep up your great work ethic.
Simra
Simra, I am so proud of you and the hard work and determination that you show in each and every Maths lesson. It is wonderful to see your self confidence growing all the time and you are now confident enough to explain your reasoning and methods to the whole class. I love the way you are always keen for a challenge and the resilience you show as you apply all of the skills you have learnt to solve them. Very well done Simra, you are a superstar!
Demi
Since starting Year 5, it has been an absolute pleasure to watch you as you tackle every aspect of your English and Maths learning with such a positive attitude. Although there have been some aspects of our learning that you have found tricky, you have never given up and shown such high levels of resilience. It makes me smile when I see your face light up when your resilience pays off and you answer questions correctly. Keep going Demi, you have had a brilliant first half to Year 5 and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the year holds for you.
