Newsletter 5.6.2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
We hope you all had a lovely half term break with your families. The children have settled back into the last half term of the academic year and we are preparing for lots of exciting end of year events! Please check the diary here which is linked to our website diary containing all the upcoming events; and those detailed further on in this newsletter; there are lots of them so be sure to add them to your diaries. We are looking forward to our annual summer party and getting dressed up in our festival attire. I know the children will be excited to see lots of you coming to enjoy the afternoon with them; tickets are available for you to purchase on MCAS.
Our value this half term is 'understanding'. Mrs Hartley enjoyed reading the book, 'The Invisible' by Tom Percival, to the children on Monday to support their knowledge of empathy and understanding of others in different situations to their own. The children were made some excellent contributions and understood the importance of listening and support. The children will continue to reflect on this value with their teachers in their classes for the rest of the term.
Today we welcomed back our Year 5s who have arrived home after a jam packed French adventure. I know lots of you have been following their travels on social media, please take a look if you have not already seen the photos, you will see from their faces how much fun they have had making memories (magic moments) that last a lifetime, from fun at the theme park to bread making! Thank you to all of our parents and carers that have supported this trip by sending your child. Our residential trips are such a worthwhile experience for the children which support their confidence, resilience, independence and so much more; we absolutely love providing these opportunities for the children to thrive. Without the incredible staff team at Lark Rise we would of course not be able to offer such opportunities; huge thanks to Mrs Francis, Miss Hazell, Miss Skingle, Mrs Harling and Mrs Perkins for attending and providing all the care that the children needed whilst away. Thank you also to Mrs Hunt for her role in organising the trip; I am sure you can appreciate, a lot of work goes on behind the scenes before the trip takes place to ensure things run smoothly.
Finally, yesterday it was lovely to welcome several visitors to the school from East Anglian School's Trust who spent the day with Chiltern Learning Trust and some time at Lark Rise to share good practice. I was delighted to speak with them about school improvement and our outstanding school provision. They were very impressed with what they saw.
Enjoy your weekend with loved ones and I look forward to seeing you all next week.
Mrs Romina Lang

Myles Smith
Our new musical hero for the final half term of the year is none other than Myles Smith. Hailing from Luton, Myles Smith is a local hero! He has quickly cemented his status as a breakout musical force, captivating global audiences with his uniquely warm blend of folk-pop and acoustic introspection. His chart-topping anthem "Stargazing" serves as the perfect introduction to his artistry, wrapping an infectious, boot-stomping rhythm around a euphoric message of lifelong love and self-discovery. Written during a late-night session after watching a Malibu sunset, the track highlights Smith's soaring, soulful vocals and an undeniable knack for stadium-ready optimism. It’s a beautifully uplifting piece of music that invites listeners to find comfort and magic in the people who anchor their lives. The children will be learning to sing this song as well as perfecting some of our classic school anthems and hymns ready for our end of year leavers assembly.
Mobile Phone
Remember when a mobile phone could double as a doorstop? In this month’s DT Hero Focus, we are traveling back in time to explore the incredible evolution of mobile phone design. We’ll track the journey from the chunky, antenna-clad bricks of the 1980s to the indestructible pocket-rockets of the early 2000s, right up to the sleek glass slabs and folding screens of today. We will be thinking about how the changing consumer needs, materials science, and engineering breakthroughs completely transformed the technology in our pockets and meet the design heroes who dared to think differently along the way.
The following children have consistently demonstrated good behaviour choices during the first half of the Summer term:
EYFS : Aubrie & Leo F
KS1 : Ophelia, Summer & Giorgio
LKS2 : Quinn, Jackson D, & Sophie M
UKS2 : Rhys, Flynn & Harleigh
EYFS
Noah
When Noah first started with us, he lacked confidence and would rarely speak. Since then, his English vocabulary has grown beautifully, and it is wonderful to hear him talking to his peers during play with such confidence. The adults have also enjoyed having lovely conversations with him, where he listens and responds so well. Recently, we have noticed him joining in more readily and truly enjoying his learning. It has been an absolute pleasure to watch Noah’s confidence grow in all aspects of school life. Well done, Noah!
Hritivika
Hritivika always demonstrates a positive attitude toward her learning. During the last half term, she has really impressed us by practicing writing her name using lowercase letters. She has also risen to every challenge set during choosing time, particularly when attempting to write numbers and the letters she has been taught during her Read Write Inc. sessions. When adults model corrections, Hritivika listens intently and is always keen to try again. Keep working hard, Hritivika—we are so proud of your perseverance and resilience!
Alexander
This term, Xander has moved to a different Read Write Inc group, learning new special friends and having a try at ‘holding a sentence’ and write down what he can remember. Xander is persevering to recall the sounds and use them when writing. Xander’s writing has also improved to show such incredibly neat writing. Well done Xander! We are so proud of you!
Mia
Mia has amazed us with her incredible ability to recall sounds and use them in her writing. She has made every attempt to work exceptionally hard in Read write Inc, follow the routines, identify the sounds and read the words. Sometimes the words are new and Mia has to use her Fred talk skills to read them, however she is developing such a passion for reading; this is wonderful to see. Keep enjoying your phonics learning. You are now a reader and super writer!
Mikail
We are incredibly impressed with Mikail’s amazing phonics skills to be able to read so well. Mikail didn’t always find it easy to demonstrate how fantastic he was as a reader and he was initially quite anxious to use a big voice. We are proud to now hear Mikail read fluently and he is now even seeking out adults to read lovely stories to. It is wonderful to hear Mikail’s voice! Mikail- you’re a superstar! Huge congratulations to you for all of your hard work.
Aiden
Aiden has always had such lovely ideas but has found it tricky to share these with adults or his class of children. Aiden is shy by nature and can sometimes feel a little nervous to put his hand up even when he knows the answers. Recently, during our maths sessions, we hsve been impressed with how Aiden has been thinking carefully, joining in with talk-partners and beginning to put his hand up to contribute his answers. Well done, Aiden. Keep being brave to use your voice and always believe in yourself!
KS1
Maya
Throughout year 2 Maya has shown fantastic growth in her confidence and resilience. At the start of the year she often found it difficult to put her ideas forward and speak up in class but she has worked incredibly hard to overcome this and has shown she can approach challenges with a positive attitude. Her resilience and determination has helped her to make wonderful progress academically and she has become a great role model for her peers by showing that being brave means trying even when things feel hard. Well done Maya!
Sienna
Sienna truly deserves to be recognised as our Resilient Roo this half term because despite different challenges she comes into school every day with determination in abundance, courage and a warm smile for everyone. Throughout the year she has shown amazing resilience by never giving up, even when learning is difficult. It has been lovely to see her make progress in her writing, learn new sounds in phonics as well as work so well with her peers and do her best to contribute during group learning. We are incredibly proud of the strength Sienna shows every day and she is an inspiration to everyone around her and such a valued member of Hummingbirds class. Keep it up Sienna!
Aria
Aria, watching your journey in maths this year has been a real pleasure. For a while, the concepts felt like a steep climb to you, but your persistence and resilience has paid off—everything is starting to "click." The transformation in your confidence is a joy to witness. Seeing the absolute pride on your face when you willingly volunteer to answer a question is wonderful, but hearing you clearly explain the logic behind a problem is even better. You’ve moved from uncertainty to mastery, proving that you can tackle any challenge head-on. Keep leaping forward, Aria—I am so proud of you!
Aiden
Aiden, the transformation we have seen in you this year has been wonderful. You started the year as a quiet member of our class, often looking for a helping hand to navigate your work. But through perseverance and true resilience you have found your wings! It is a joy to see the confident learner you have become. You are now working with great independence, and the sense of pride you take in completing a task on your own is truly earned. Beyond your work, seeing you find your voice and willingly share your ideas with the class has been a highlight. Your resilience has unlocked your potential, Aiden. Keep believing in yourself!
Sofia
During her time in Year 2, it has been an absolute joy to watch Sofia truly come into her own. Initially, she found the idea of being a classroom role model a bit daunting. However, by embracing a growth mindset and stepping out of her comfort zone, she has flourished into a fantastic leader for everyone around her. Sofia truly embodies the spirit of resilience. She has learned that taking chances, whether in her schoolwork or within her friendships, is where the magic happens, proving that setbacks are just stepping stones to achieving wonderful things. Through this independence, her confidence has soared, and her true voice has shone through. Sofia, your "can-do" attitude and wonderful smile light up every room you walk into, and seeing your growth is a daily highlight for me. Well done for pushing through any challenges you face and shining like a diamond! You thoroughly deserve this Resilience Award!
Hugo
When I think of resilience, I cannot help but think of you, Hugo. You are the very definition of bouncing back from any setback, approaching everything with an adaptability and a positive outlook on life that is truly contagious. What makes you so special is how you use that strength. You do all that you can to make those around you feel seen, heard, and appreciated, while beautifully maintaining your own remarkable integrity and mature sense of self. You have a natural problem solving mind and love to put it to use, whether you are helping a friend, enthusiastically completing your 'green for growth' tasks, or determinedly trying to fix a broken water bottle! You truly go from strength to strength in everything you put your mind to. Hugo, you should be incredibly proud of yourself. Well done for simply being you!
LKS2
Heath
Heath started the year in Lower Key Stage Two maths slightly daunted by the new and more advanced content. At the start of the year, Heath appeared unsure with some of the new concepts and the speed at which we whizzed through them! This half term, however, he has absolutely risen to the new challenge of something that can confuse a lot of children when they first come across it: decimals! Heath sits every maths lesson absolutely focused and determined to gain new skills and knowledge in maths and it has been wonderful in the past few weeks to see how his confidence has grown and he is now putting his hand up more and more to show he is now fluent in topics that were once a challenge to him. Well done Heath - your hard work and resilience has really paid off!
Lilly D
This term, I have seen a huge shift in Lilly in the classroom. She has always worked hard and tried her best in her learning but historically she has been slightly shy in base class at times. This term, Lilly has shown just how engaged she is in her learning with much more confidence: her hand is up in lessons much more to share her thoughts and I can see how her belief in herself is continuing to grow as a result of her new-found sense of capability. Lilly - you are an amazing learner and so much to offer the class so well done for pushing yourself this term to show off your fantastic abilities.
Carter P
I am so incredibly proud of the journey Carter has taken this year. We know that sometimes, coming into school and not knowing what lies ahead can feel daunting. However, Carter takes this in his stride and never lets those tricky mornings stop him from trying his absolute best! It has been truly lovely to see Carter find his voice and check in with me every day to share what he is looking forward to. Carter has become so confident in class, always wanting to answer questions and best of all, he is no longer afraid to get things wrong. I love hearing him come back at the end of the day to tell me what lesson he enjoyed the most and why! Keep shining Carter. You are a star.
Jaden
It has been an absolute joy to watch Jaden blossom this year. While he is naturally kind and quiet, his determination speaks volumes. Whether he is tackling a tricky task in the afternoon or getting stuck into his work without a single complaint, he shows true 'Roo' resilience every day. What has made me most proud recently is seeing Jaden find his voice in our class discussions. Putting your hand up takes great courage, and seeing him share his ideas with such growing confidence has been wonderful. Keep being your amazing, determined self. I am so proud of you!
Luna
You have shown incredible growth and determination throughout the year. You have worked remarkably hard on strengthening your focus and attention in lessons and the results are truly impressive. It has been wonderful to watch you transition into a confident, independent learner who no longer relies on adult support to navigate your tasks each lesson. By taking initiative to complete extra work at home and committing to working hard in lessons you are now producing work which is of excellent quality. Luna, your bounce back spirit and newfound independence are true Resilient Roo qualities. Well done! We are so proud of you.
Theo P
Theo has shown us all what incredible progress looks like when you pair determination with a positive attitude. We have been so impressed by his resilience that he has shown which has helped to transform the presentation of his work. His handwriting has become clearer, his pages are organised with pride and the quality of his work is consistently fantastic. But his resilience doesn't stop at the page! Theo has also found his voice in our classroom, participating in discussions and sharing insightful ideas. Theo, your hard work and willingness to tackle challenges head on have not gone unnoticed. Well done, Theo! We are proud of you!
UKS2
Katarina
Katarina, I have been so impressed with the determination and resilience that you have shown during our Maths lessons this year. We have covered some really tricky topics and concepts that were, initially, hard to grasp. However, with lots of hard work and perseverance you have gone on to develop a strong understanding of these areas. It has been wonderful to see you grow in confidence over time and I was so proud when you volunteered to model answering a question in front of the whole class … AMAZING! Well done Katarina.
Cailen
What a superstar you have been this year Cailen! I love how you come into school each morning with a big smile on your face and such a positive attitude. You always try your best with whatever task is given to you and show huge amounts of resilience every single day. Your positivity and determination continues outside of school too and we are all so proud of how well you are doing when you represent England when you are playing for the under 11’s team. Very well done Cailen and keep shining like the star that you are.
Wiktoria
I have been so impressed with the resilience and determination you have shown particularly in the lead up to SATs. You have attended extra booster groups showing real enthusiasm for being there (which is always lovely as a teacher!). You know your weaker areas of learning and are more than happy to ask for help to better yourself and to understand trickier concepts. These are all fantastic qualities and I am so proud of the hard work and effort you have put in. Keep working hard, be confident in yourself and continue to be the lovely, resilient girl you are.
Gabriel
You came to us late in your primary school journey, but what an amazing journey you have had so far! I am so proud of your hard work and determination shown in both your English and Maths classes. You have listened really well and tried so hard in both these areas. I particularly love the way you have taken on board new learning in Maths and have quickly plugged gaps in your learning so much so that your Arithmetic scores have completely ‘jumped’ up! Likewise, in English, your reading has come along beautifully and you have really applied yourself to the extra lessons you have had. Your progress has been amazing and you should be very proud of how far you’ve come - I know that we certainly are!
Rosalie
You are a true resilient roo! You bounded into this year already working at such a high level, but you didn't just settle there. Instead, you put your head down, worked even harder, and pushed yourself to reach new heights. It has been absolutely wonderful to watch you progress even further and smash your goals. I have truly treasured being your teacher this year, and I am so incredibly proud of the dedicated, resilient learner you are. Keep jumping high, Rosie!
Poppy T
Poppy, you are an absolute superstar who puts your whole heart into everything you do! I know you found the SATS nerve-wracking at first, but you quickly realized a very important truth: your best is always good enough. You tackled every single paper with incredible resilience and determination. I truly loved seeing you smash those tests, and I am so proud of how you handled the challenge. I hope this experience has unleashed a whole new level of confidence in you, because you have proven that when you put your mind to it, you can achieve absolutely anything!
Writing to be proud of (Year 6)
