Newsletter 4.4.2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
It's hard to believe that another term is over and we are entering the final term of the academic year! The summer term is my absolute favourite, mainly due to the weather and the opportunities this brings for extended outdoor learning including the trips and residentials that we have planned. There's lots to look forward to and enjoy with your lovely children.
LKS2 got into character for their Stone Age day this week which saw them not only look the part but spend a whole day taking part in extended learning opportunities. From hunter gatherer trails outside to stone age art and drama, there was a host of learning opportunities for them to learn from and enjoy. Thank you for ensuring your children looked the part and to staff for organising such an exciting day for the children.
We were delighted to take part in the Chiltern Learning Trust Gym and Dance show this week. The children had all been working really hard during their lunch time rehearsals, giving up their own time to practise their performance. I am sure you will agree, if you were fortunate enough to get a ticket, that they put on a great show! There were so brave to perform in front of such a large audience comprising of many schools and I could not be prouder of them. It was also a great opportunity for them to see the incredible talent on show in the other schools too and inspire them for the future. Well done to all of the children involved.
This week we hosted a Phonics experience day for the trainee teachers as part of the Chiltern Training Group (CTG). The trainees were here to learn about the delivery of phonics to support children across the school and hear from our experts Mrs Hartley and Miss Hazell. The feedback we received from them about the staff and children that they saw was lovely and I am very proud that we can support and inspire the next generation of teachers.
Last week we hosted another live virtual training event for the National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL). After our first session the National College invited us back as our school and school improvement model had been so well received by the last cohort of delegates. I feel honoured that we as a school are able to influence the leaders of the future.
Finally, I would like to say a huge huge thank you to all of the staff who continue to work tirelessly for all of the children across the school and are well deserving of an Easter break! There is no other team quite like the Lark Rise team and I am delighted that how we work together for the good of the children was identified by the lead Ofsted inspector a couple weeks ago. They are an incredibly talented bunch who I feel privileged to work alongside.
This term has been a hugely successful one for the children; we are so proud of them all and look forward to supporting them on the remainder of their learning journey in the summer term. I hope you and your wonderful children enjoy some time together over the Easter break; take care.
Mrs Romina Lang
Headteacher

EYFS
Aiden
Aiden has shown great improvement with his focus and attention skills this year. He used to be easily distracted during carpet sessions, but now it is wonderful to see him sit so well and join in. It is a delight to watch how his confidence has grown and has enabled him to express his needs. We are so proud of your behaviour for learning and all that you are achieving!
Liam
Liam is an inquisitive boy who shows great interest in all the activities on offer in Nursery. When adults have set challenges, Liam is always keen to complete them. We have been particularly impressed with his attitude and focus whilst engaged in fine motor tasks. He has shown great progress with his pencil grip, control and name writing. Well done Liam, for such positivity towards learning challenges.
Harry
Over the last term Harry has shown that he has made great progress in Read Write Inc. He recognises sounds when they are shown to him and is now developing his confidence to blend sounds to read words. Occasionally Harry looks at a red word and says ‘I don’t know it’, however Harry is working hard to recall them and feel confident to say the right word. We are so pleased and proud of Harry and his growing love of reading! Well done Harry! Keep enjoying reading!
Cason
Initially Cason found our Read Write Inc learning a little tricky to grasp. Over the last term Cason has shown that he is able to identify sounds when they are shown to him and has developed his confidence to blend sounds together to read words. Cason is always so pleased with himself when he reads the word and gets them correct! Keep working hard to blend the sounds; we know that you are going to continue to read words so positively. Well done Cason!
Alesia
Alesia always tries her hardest in everything she does, even when she doesn’t find it easy. In Read Write Inc she has done so well to learn the new special friends we have covered and is working hard to use these when she is writing. Well done Alesia, we are all so proud of you!
Florence
Florence is always so supportive of the other children in Owls and Robins Class, even when she is disappointed that she has not been chosen for something. She is the first person to congratulate others and waits patiently for her turn without getting upset. Well done for putting others before yourself and being resilient when something doesn’t go your way.
KS1
Evelyn
Evelyn has really worked hard to develop her resilience this last year in Key Stage One. She never looks at setbacks as something she should worry about and instead will simply shrug her shoulders, smile and continue to try her best with wonderful grace and understanding. Her ability to wait for things she might really want was initially a challenge for her because of how excited she can get, but her patience has grown to the point of her talking to others about trying hard and waiting your turn. She is a beacon of light and truly lives for the joy in the world. Well done Evelyn, you are such a wonderful member of the Key Stage and such a valued friend. We love how you are able to find fun ways to compromise and make others smile! You’re a diamond!
Beau
Beau is well known within the key stage for her resilience, kindness and patience. She is such a remarkable learner and has an incredible talent for turning moments of uncertainty into learning opportunities, especially in maths! She continuously grows and shines like a star, always thinking about how she can develop herself in terms of her knowledge and skills. She is constantly demonstrating how adaptive she is and seeks support from those around her, making sure to always try her very best! She maintains such a positive outlook for all she encounters. Beau, you are absolutely wonderful and we notice all that you are - you are going to achieve greatness and we are so so proud of you! Keep being the incredible light that you are!
Stefan
Stefan has tried so hard this half term to be resilient with many areas of his learning that he finds tricky. We have been so impressed with Stefan’s perseverance and determination to keep trying his best and loved his writing about Rosa parks this half term. We know this isn’t always easy Stefan but we believe in you and can now see that you believe in yourself too; fantastic!
Aila
Aila is a ray of sunshine in the classroom and it is safe to say she has continued to impress everybody with her determination to always try her best. If you ask Aila she will tell you that she loves school with a massive smile on her face which is so lovely to see. Aila is the embodiment of Resilient Roo as she will just never give up! Well done Aila for another fantastic half term learning at Lark rise
Holly-Rose
Holly-Rose has shown everyone just how much she has developed her resilience this half term. Since the beginning of the year, she has developed her confidence so much and really impressed everyone during the Parrots class assembly. She was eager to take on a challenging line, which at the start of the year would have really worried her. Not only did she learn and deliver the line with confidence she also volunteered to read out part of the Easter story. It has been so lovely to watch her perform with confidence. Sometimes, for Holly-Rose, coming to school can stir up some tricky feelings but she has been coming in everyday with a smile. It has been such a joy to watch your resilience grow.
Ella C
Ella has shown so much resilience in her learning during this half term. She often shares that she finds maths tricky but I have never seen Ella give up. Even though she says she finds it tricky she consistently works through these challenges to succeed - and NEVER gives up! She has impressed me so much this half term with her keep trying attitude and it is really paying off! Ella is now developing her own strategies to support her learning in maths to solve questions that she finds difficult. This has supported her oracy skills and when she is demonstrating her learning to the class she is now able to clearly explain her thought process to the rest of the class which has also helped her peers to understand new concepts. Ella you are so great at maths and we are so proud of you!
LKS2
Rayyan
Rayyan, we are all so proud of the progress you are making in LKS2 and the effort you are putting into all of your subjects. Whilst some of the learning can be tricky, you are facing these challenges with a positive attitude and a will to try to complete your tasks independently. This includes your writing and Maths learning, where you are becoming more confident in your own abilities and more keen on contributing your ideas in class. What a superstar! Well done Rayyan.
Katarina
Katarina brings a positive, glowing energy into Macaws classroom every morning and makes others smile with her kindness. It is so lovely to see how enthusiastic Katarina is in all aspects of her learning. She truly puts her all into everything she does and is determined to succeed and challenge herself. I have been really impressed with Katarina’s resilience within her English work. Katarina listens to feedback and acts on this by editing her work independently; always striving to improve. This is helping Katarina become a fantastic storyteller and writer; well done Katarina!
Alicja
Alicja has worked with quiet determination in Maths this term. She can sometimes doubt herself and her abilities but she has focussed upon the quick and accurate recall of her times table facts and has made phenomenal progress in this area! Not only has Alicja now really increased her scores in her Year 4 MTC practice tests but she is also now beginning to apply her knowledge of multiplication to other areas of Maths such as fractions, with a growing confidence. It has been lovely to see Alicja believing in herself. Well done!
Karlok
Karlok works with determination and hard work in all aspects of school life and is a super role model to others. It has been lovely to see a growing confidence in Karlok this half term; where he has helped other children by sharing his great ideas. Karlok has particularly been enjoying rising to further challenges in his English learning. He always works with resilience when embarking upon new learning and this has been particularly evident in the way he has embraced reading more challenging texts. Karlok has been able to show this learning in his own writing; always striving to edit and improve his final piece for impact on the reader too. Well done, Karlok!
Lucas G
Lucas comes into school each morning and great me with a cheery ‘Good Morning Mrs Shilvock!’ Over the last few months we have seen a real positive change in Lucas and his self confidence is building all the time. He has been working so hard on his reading and writing and because of this we have seen some great progress being made. I know with this improved resilience and determination that Lucas is going to continue to grow. Well done Lucas, I am super proud of you!
Monika
Monika is such a lovely girl who brings so much to Red Kites Class and Lower Key Stage 2. She has such a kind heart and the adults in the key stage are so grateful for all the wonderful offers help and the little jobs that she completes each day in the classrooms. I am so proud of Monika and the way she puts so much effort into her learning; she listens carefully to advice on how she can further improve her work and will then show great resilience to action the advice to make her work even better! Monika, all of the adults in Lower Key Stage 2 are very proud of you. Keep up the hard work, you are a superstar!
UKS2
Jarek
I am so excited for Mrs Lang to say your name in assembly and to see your beautiful smile appear because this is your moment Jarek, for everyone to hear how amazing you are! Everyone in Falcons is so impressed with you. You have gone from writing cat to then describing ‘Tabby McTat’ in a sentence and last week you made us all smile so much when you showed us how you can spell celebration. You are not just resilient in your work, you have worked hard to learn how to be a kind and caring friend. You make us all smile so much and you inspire everyone to be a little more Jarek.
Samuel
When you joined Lark Rise, you impressed us all with your knowledge and hard working attitude. You continue to improve yourself every day and reading your now carefully presented and well thought out work is a highlight of my day. Your questioning is something I really admire and this has shown how determined you are to do well. Your question about ‘what is the difference between formal and technical language’ really shows that you leave no stone unturned in your quest for making your brain even more amazing!
Aaron
Aaron has shown a real determination, not just this half term but all year, in his maths learning. He participates enthusiastically in all of his lessons: putting his hand up to have a go and not getting disheartened if he doesn’t understand something on the first try or if he needs to go back and check his work. Aaron’s face lights up when he learns from his mistakes; he will look back at his work, smile and say “Oh, I get it now,” letting this propel him forward in his learning and progress. Aaron - it has been lovely to watch your abilities and confidence grow and to have your smiling face and ‘can do’ attitude in the classroom.
Annabel
Annabel is an extremely strong mathematician, however, she does not always have the confidence to show off her skills with pride. This half term, Annabel has continued, as she always does, to work hard in her lessons and has made lots of progress but I am particularly proud of how she has started to put her hand up more in lessons and offer answers, explanations and show off her reasoning skills. This is something Annabel found challenging at the start of the year and it has been wonderful this half term to see her find her confidence in class. Annabel - you are fantastic; never feel shy to show off your skills!
Bertie
Bertie is one of those children who quietly and methodically work away, not bringing attention to themselves, but really endeavouring to do their best. And this is certainly what Bertie has done over this year - he applies himself so well to his learning and is always striving to do the best work he can possibly do even when he finds elements of his work trickier. This resilience and independence in his learning is certainly paying off. His recent mock results were fantastic and he should be justifiably proud of all his hard work and determination so far. Believe in yourself Bertie and keep demonstrating your amazing work ethic in all your lessons!
Alexandra
Alexandra - you have shown a growing determination and resilience in all aspects of your learning. In particular, it has been lovely to see you grow and flourish in aspects of learning you have found difficult. I have a distinct picture in my mind of your enthusiastic shout of, ‘Get in there,’ when you finally managed to master long multiplication after many attempts and battling away with the concept. Use this determined attitude to learn something new and continue to apply it to all areas of your learning and you will certainly flourish going forwards. Well done, Alexandra!
