Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to the summer term and what beautiful weather we have had so far to start us off! It has been so lovely to watch the children playing outside in the nicer weather and making the most of our gorgeous grounds; long may it continue!
Returning from the Easter break our children in Key Stage 1 have been very excited about some mysterious beans that turned up in their classrooms this half term; what an exciting 'magic moment' to start off a unit of learning. They have enjoyed some planting activities of their own and are reading Jack and the Beanstalk to spark inspiration for their own writing. To end a unit of learning last half term our children in Lower Key Stage 2 enjoyed their Stone Age 'magic moment' as part of their history topic. It was a wonderful immersive day of Stone Age art, hunter gatherer trails around the school grounds and drama. Thank you also for ensuring your child looked the part; moments like this really ignite their love of learning and support them in retaining knowledge.
It was lovely to see so many of you attend our 'book look' evening yesterday. There was a buzz of conversation around learning in the classrooms; it is lovely to see these interactions between you and your children. Thank you if you were able to attend this with your child and provide them the opportunity to talk through their learning with you.
Thank you to all of our parents and carers in Owls and Robins class who were able to attend their class assembly today. I was sad to have missed it however I was told they did an incredible job at showcasing their learning and I am looking forward to watching the recording.
Finally, a huge thank you on behalf of myself and the rest of the staff team for the truly lovely comments and words of support that we have received after the publication of our recent Ofsted report. I am so proud to lead such a successful team of staff who are all so passionate and committed to supporting the children's needs and hold them at the centre of every decision we make. The children show us every day how outstanding they are and I am just delighted that the team of inspectors recognised this too.
I hope you all enjoy the long weekend together with your family and I will see you all on Tuesday next week.
Mrs Romina Lang
Headteacher
Each week in our whole school assembly we celebrate children's attendance by playing a game of Attendopoly (based on Monopoly). The class with the highest attendance figure is rewarded with a class prize.
The winning class for the last couple of weeks was:
Week of 31st March : Falcons class with 98.3% attendance
Whole school attendance : 95.4%
Week of 21st April : Hummingbirds class with 100% attendance
Whole school attendance : 94.6%
Our whole school target attendance for this academic year across all classes is 97%.
Beverley Knight
This term our Musical hero of the half term is the amazing Beverley Knight MBE an English R&B/Soul singer, songwriter, actress and radio personality. She released her first album, The B-Funk, in 1995 and has continued to top the charts and contribute to the music industry ever since. She has even performed as Rachel Marron in the West End musical 'The Bodygaurd' a role originally made famous by the incredible Whitney Houston. We will be focusing on pitch and dynamics in our musical assemblies as well as listening and appraising songs such as 'Made It Back' and 'Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda.' The children will also be learning to sing one of her uplifting songs 'Greatest day.' See if your child enjoys singing along to any of her songs at home!
Stephen Wiltshire
Our artist of the half term is British artist, Stephen Wiltshire. He is an incredible architectural artist who is able to draw an entire cityscape after only seeing it very briefly. He was diagnosed with Autism at an early age and used his art as a way to communicate. His work is now known and respected across the whole world.
Stephen has the most amazing motto that he lives his life by 'Do the best you can and never stop!'; a motto we can all live our lives by.
Hopefully the current lovely weather will continue throughout the remainder of the summer term. Please can you ensure that your child has suncream applied before coming to school and has a sunhat and water bottle with them. If you wish them to apply further suncream later in the school day, you are welcome to send in a named bottle of suncream for them to apply themselves - please note we cannot apply the suncream for them but will supervise them doing so.
We have seen a number of children coming into school wearing sunglasses. We do not feel that these are appropriate to be worn in school unless there is a medical reason for a child to wear them so please can these be left at home.
We will be holding a Break the Rules day on Tuesday 6th May when children will be able to pay a small charge (£1 per broken rule) to allow them to break the school rules for this day only.
Rules which can be broken will include :
wearing non uniform
wearing nail varnish
crazy hair (no hair dye for UKS2 children due to their swimming lessons that day)
wearing tattoos
free choice lunchbox eg chocolate/sweets/fizzy drinks
bring in a snack
bring in a soft toy
Payment should be made in cash on the day.
Lark Fest!
Tickets for the Lark Rise Summer Party (Lark Fest) which will take place on the school field on Friday 20th June from 1.30pm to 3.30pm will be available to purchase on Parentmail from tomorrow. Tickets are £5 each which covers entry to the party - you are welcome to bring picnics but there will be an array of food and drink items to purchase on the day. This year there will be a festival theme therefore we invite children and parents to come dressed in their best festival inspired outfits.
