Dear Parents and Carers,
As we approach the end of summer 1, I cannot believe that we only have one half term left of this academic year! This half term has seen lots more successes from the children. Last week I was extremely proud of the mature and resilient attitude displayed by our Year 6 children as they undertook their SATs. They were focussed and tried their absolute best; we could not ask any more from them! They thoroughly deserved their bowling treat and were very appreciative as well as displaying excellent manners and behaviour throughout the duration of the treat; well done everyone! It is important for the children to understand that hard work and commitment is rewarded; we hope they will carry this through to the rest of their educational journey at secondary school next year. Thank you to all of our parents and carers for all of the support that you have provided for your child in order to support their confidence and to help them feel prepared; we truly appreciate the positive impact that this can have. Finally, thank you to all of the adults in Upper Key Stage 2 that have prepared the children for these assessments; they are truly a fantastic team of people who have been relentless in providing high expectations for the children as well as support and reassurance. SATs is far more than a year 6 'event', consistent teaching from the whole staff team goes into high outcomes for the children therefore I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all the teaching staff for the huge part they play on the journey of all the year 6 children even with a Covid bump in the road; I am proud to work with such an amazing team who put children at the centre of all decisions.
This week we have been supporting the Year 2 children through their SATs, whilst this is a lot more informal for the children, we are once again pleased with the efforts and resilience they have displayed. We do not want the children to feel pressure or worry about these assessments and thankfully I think the main difference for them this week was probably learning without the Year 1s in the room!
Finally, we were delighted to unveil our community library on Monday which was officially opened by Liz Jones the Mayor of Dunstable. Adrian Rogers, CEO for Chiltern Learning Trust and Lisa Horner, a parent Governor, were also there for the opening. After a couple of poems shared by our reading ambassadors, the ribbon was finally cut. Huge thanks to Sam Hartley, one of our parents who built the library for us and our Year 3 and 4 children who photographed and videoed the event. I think these children are now looking forward to creating a video of the event so watch this space!
Don't forget to follow our social media channels on Facebook and Twitter to keep up to date with news and photos of events happening across the school. We are such busy learners!
I hope you all have a lovely weekend and the sun shines for us.

Class Photos
The school photographer will be in school on Friday 26th May to take whole class photographs. Children should wear their school uniform on this day including shirts and ties for children in Upper Key Stage 2. If your child has PE on this day, they should come into school in their uniform and bring their PE kit to change at school.
Wootton Blue Cross Lionesses Vs Dunstable Women
On 30th April, some children from Lark Rise acted as mascots for Miss Klausner and her football team away to Dunstable. The children had the opportunity to wear the Lark Rise Academy yellow football kit! They were also able to complete a warm up with Miss Klausner and her team and also had a mini training session! The children had a great time and didn’t want to leave!
Coronation Party
Thank you for supporting our King's Coronation party on Friday 5th May, we hope you agree it was a fabulous event and really well supported which resulted in us raising over £1500 for school funds.
India Fundraising
We were delighted to see Mrs Berry in school again last week when she came in to talk to some of the children about her fundraising efforts in support of Khristiya Seva Niketan Hospital, the mission hospital that Mrs Berry and her husband visit annually to do charity work in Sarenga, West Bengal, India. To further support Mr & Mrs Berry, we have offered to hold a non-uniform day on Tuesday 23rd May. Please encourage your child/ren to come to school in bright colours in exchange for a donation of £1. Children can bring in their £1 on the day or alternatively, donations can be made to Mrs Berry's JustGiving Crowdfunding page
https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/linda-berry-ksn-lra?utm_id=1&utm_term=VAZ3Qrqk2
All funds raised will go directly to a specific project decided by the hospital when Mr & Mrs Berry next visit. Last year Lark Rise were able to purchase a life saving portable ECR machine... what difference will this year's fundraising make? Watch this space!
Thank you in advance for your support.
