Dear Parents and Carers,
It was lovely to welcome the children back to school this week for the start of the summer term. The children have settled straight back in and continue to impress us with their behaviours for learning and effort in the classroom; well done children, keep up the amazing work! It was also lovely to welcome our new Nursery children into Ducklings class this week; they are settling in so well already.
Before the Easter break I was delighted to accompany a group of Key Stage 2 children to Denbigh High School where they performed a dance routine to an audience of parents and carers from across the Chiltern Learning Trust schools. The children were absolutely incredible the whole day long, both through the rehearsals and the actual performance and I could not be more proud of them. A great effort from all the children who gave up their time to be involved in this event, Christina Marks School of Dance for the choreography and dance lessons and Coalition for the sponsorship and costumes who have made our involvement in this event possible. If you are part of a company or organisation that is interested in supporting the school with sponsorship of other events then please get in touch with us; we would love to hear from you in order to support further opportunities and projects for our children going forward.
Those of you who drop off and collect from the school will have noticed that our Early Years and Foundation Stage playground has had a makeover! We are waiting for the final part of the surfacing to set today then we will have our official opening on Monday next week (fingers crossed for some dry weather). We are pleased to welcome Councillor Liz Jones back to the school for the official opening and look forward to the children spending the summer term playing on the new equipment. We have chosen this equipment specifically for the play opportunities that it will provide as well as building core and hand strength through the use of the roll bars and pully system. We hope the children will enjoy playing on this equipment for years to come! Huge thanks to the Chiltern Learning Trust for providing us with a pot of money in order to make this refurbishment possible and the amazing fundraising from FALLS and all of you! Without these essential fundraising opportunities then we simply would not have the finances to be able to provide these exciting changes.
Next week we will be celebrating sustainability week in school, why not talk to your children at home about this important topic and the little things that you do at home to help the planet.
We look forward to seeing lots of you in school next Thursday for our parents and carers 'book look' and those of you who have been invited to the Technology for Learning information evening for Key Stage 2 next year.
Mrs Romina Lang
Headteacher
Each week in our whole school assembly we celebrate children's attendance by playing a game of Attendopoly (based on Monopoly). The class with the highest attendance figure is rewarded with a class prize.
The winning class for the last week was:
Week of 25th March : Robins Class with 98.9% attendance
Whole school attendance : 95.4%
Our whole school target attendance for this academic year across all classes is 97%.
We would like to make you aware of some exciting local teacher training opportunities available through the Chiltern Training Group for those of you who may be considering teaching in either Primary or Secondary schools as a career.
We have been awarded an Outstanding Ofsted rating in May 2023, making us one of the best providers in the country and we have many courses for people who have a degree as well as for those who don’t. There is some more information on the attached flyers, and we are also available to speak to you if you would like to learn more.
There are various, accessible ways to train, some allowing you to earn a salary in a school throughout your training. There are also grants available for some subjects as well as finance to support payment for child care. There are many opportunities for you to train locally, which we know is important.
The following event may interest you as a chance to find out more:

We are delighted to welcome Mrs Bilenkyj to the Lark Rise team.
Mrs Bilenkyj will be working alongside Mrs Rankine as Parrots class teacher from 1st May 2024. Mrs Rankine will work Monday to Wednesday and Mrs Bilenkyj will work Wednesday to Friday. Mrs Harrison, who has been supporting Mrs Rankine since January will continue providing cover across the whole school. We thank Mrs Harrison for being such a fantastic support in Parrots class over the spring term.
We are in the throes of planning our Lark Rise 50th birthday party which will be held on Friday 21st June from 1.30 - 3.30pm on the school field. The theme of this will be 70's disco so start preparing your 70's themed costumes now.
There will be an opportunity for parents/carers of children from Reception to Year 6 to come into school to look at the childrens' books on Thursday 25th April from 5.00 - 6.00pm. Entry to the building will be as follows :
Reception : the Reception classroom door
KS1 : the door the children normally leave from
LKS2 : the main pupil entrance door

If you have more than one child, please go to your youngest child's classroom first. If you are attending the Key Stage Technology information sharing session then you will have the opportunity to go straight from the hall to your child's class where they will be waiting for you if you have brought them in with you.
We have a child in school with a severe nut allergy so can we please remind you that we are a nut free school so no items containing nuts should be brought into school - this includes items in children's lunchboxes.
As previously advised, the children will no longer be bringing home bump notes and instead you will receive an email from our medical reporting system Smartlog. The email address will be notifications@sl.safesmart.co.uk
If you could add this to your email whitelist this will ensure that the medical reports don't end up in your spam.
If your child has medication (Inhalers etc.) in school you will now be emailed when this has been administered and Smartlog will notify you when the medication has expired so that a replacement can be brought into school.
In the event of a serious injury or a head injury, we will of course contact you immediately by telephone.
Across the school we have a weekly hall of fame, where we celebrate different aspects of times table recall. This includes effort, speed and accuracy.
Well done to the following children who have logged on regularly at home during the Easter holidays and achieved a place in our hall of fame :
LKS2 : Arlo, Henry, Freddie, Rosalie, Hanna, Alex W
The children in Year 4 have been invited to put themselves forward for this term's School Ambassadors. They will need to write a short speech which they will read out to the rest of the school in assembly on Monday morning. Please encourage your child(ren) should they wish to be considered for this role but please be aware if they already have another responsibility such as a reading ambassador then they may not be selected for the role as it's important for us to give as many children as possible opportunities.
We would be pleased to receive any girls grey tights that your child may have outgrown to use as spares in school.
The class assemblies to which parents/carers are invited have been added to the school calendar which can be accessed via the Diary Dates tab at the top of the newsletter.
The assemblies planned for the Summer term are:
Penguins : Friday 26th April
Owls & Robins : Friday 3rd May
Ducks : Friday 14th June

Writing to be proud of (Year 1)
EYFS
Aria
Aria used to find writing a little tricky. She also used to be so super excited to see her friends when she came into school that she struggled to focus on her morning task. However, Aria now comes into school each day with a smile enthusiastic to complete her morning writing challenge! She is now able to hold her pencil correctly whilst independently writing excellent sentences with a capital letter at the beginning, a full stop and the end and is beginning to remember to use finger spaces. Aria has made such fantastic progress in both her reading and writing.
Aria, you are an absolute superstar and we are ever so proud of you!
Mia
Mia is such a delightful, polite and hard working little girl. Despite having difficulties with her hearing due to glue-ear she continues to always try her best. She tries to listen intently in order to learn to her full potential and follow all of the instructions given. Mia used to worry a little if she couldn’t hear what a grown up had said but she now confidently lets us know that she needs words repeated. Thank you Mia for being such a pleasure to teach. Well done!
Edward
Edward has had a tricky time recently, emotionally, when his beloved pet passed away. Edward talked to the adults about his feelings and drew a beautiful picture to express how much he loved his dog. Well done for being so resilient and caring.
Ivy
Ivy has shown great resilience over this half term in her Read Write Inc lessons. Her confidence has grown to speak out and share her knowledge of the sounds, blending sounds together and especially her writing. Ivy is now confident to write words quickly and carefully and is proud of what she has done. Well done Ivy!
Amber
Amber has always been a quieter member of the class, often needing adult reassurance to join in and express her needs. This term her confidence has blossomed and it has been wonderful to see her develop some lovely friendships. She now plays collaboratively and talks clearly with her friends. She has also been putting her hand up to join in and answer questions during carpet sessions. Well done Amber!
Freddie
When Freddie first started Nursery he was a little nervous and unsure and seeked out the adults for reassurance. However, it is a different Freddie we see in the Nursery today! Freddie enjoys coming to school and will always greet the adults with a smile and a hello. His confidence and independence develops daily and he regularly participates in ‘Show and Tell’. He continues to build relationships and it has been lovely to see him playing with friends. Well done Freddie!
KS1
Lucas G
Lucas, you have blown us away with your sheer resilience this half term. From volunteering to read out a page of your favourite book to the whole class on World Book Day to asking to be the leader of your table during a science experiment (and what a fantastic leader you were!), you have shown us how much effort you can put into your learning. You even asked for an extra line in our class assembly, showing off your brilliant reading skills. Keep up the hard work; you have so much to be proud of.
Sienna
Sienna has shown great resilience this half term. Although a quieter member of the class she has worked so hard with her learning and has participated much more in all class discussions. Sienna has also been willing to try new activities with her peers, in particular the drama activity we did last week. At first Sienna was not sure she wanted to do it but wow you smashed it! Keep up the great work, Sienna. We’re so proud of you.
Loshini
When Loshini completed her Read Write Inc learning she was initially worried about joining an English class with her Year 2 peers. However, she worked hard to overcome those feelings and kept trying her best. She continues to grow in confidence daily and has learned that she is actually very resilient. We are all so proud of you Loshini!
Heath
Heath is such a Resilient Roo superstar as he is always motivated to try his best even when things don’t go to plan. He is also such a lovely talk partner as his confidence to join in with discussions and ‘can do’ attitude are infectious. Heath always impresses us with his positive growth mindset no matter what’s expected of him; well done Heath!
Kaylan
Kaylan you have absolutely blown us all away this half term. Your commitment to your learning and ability to resiliently work through challenges has been wonderful to watch. You are always willing to go above and beyond with your participation, even bringing in some memorabilia from your time at the National Space Centre (which was a fantastic link to our history learning of Neil Armstrong.) His understanding of how important it is to work as a team, even though this can be challenging sometimes, really reflects how kind he is. Super well done Kaylan, we are all so proud of you!
Timothy
Timmy, you have really begun to channel your energy into a positive force within the classroom. It has been really wonderful to see how hard you have worked in your geography and history learning, recalling facts and accepting green for growth in your stride, taking great pride in your work. Your participation in class and remembering to raise your hand to speak has greatly improved, it is a true joy to teach you!
LKS2
Demi
Demi is such a joy to have in the classroom and is an enthusiastic learner! Although at times she lacks confidence in getting answers correct, Demi will push herself outside of her comfort zone and take on any task given to her with a positive mindset. This is especially true for her Science and History work, which she talks about with passion. Well done Demi!
Hanna
Hanna is incredibly hard working and consistently strives to challenge herself within all of her learning. Her determination and resilience is admirable! Even when tasks are trickier, Hanna is motivated to give them a go, and will always have a smile on her face when doing it. We’re so proud of you Hanna!
Freddie
I am so proud of Freddie and the positive attitude and resilience he has shown over this academic year so far. He always tries his best with every task that has been set for him. When he finds something challenging he will persevere and is then very proud of himself when he is able to complete it successfully. A recent example of this was during our basketball lessons; initially Freddie was wary during lessons but over the weeks his confidence grew and grew until he was able to successfully demonstrate the skills he had learnt. Well done Freddie!
Saweinya
Saweinya is an amazing member of Red Kites Class. Although she hasn’t been with us all academic year, I am so proud of how well she has settled in to our school and our class. It is so wonderful to see the huge steps she is making in her progress and also watching some wonderful friendships. Joining a new school can be very daunting but Saweinya has taken it all in her stride. I absolutely love having her in my class and I am excited to be able to watch her as she continues her journey through Lark Rise. Well done Saweinya!
Felicia
Felicia is a wonderful member of Peacocks class. I have been so proud of the way she has grown in self-belief. This means that she now approaches trickier tasks with a ‘can do’ attitude; this has been lovely to see in all areas of her school life. Felicia has grown in so many ways, but seeing her show resilience in improving her handwriting and presentation has been lovely to see. Well done Felicia, your hard work has certainly paid off! We are all very proud of you.
Callan
Callan demonstrates a wonderful attitude to all areas of his learning in school. HE approaches tasks with a positive mindset and this is now resulting in him making some wonderful progress. His creative and imaginative ideas for writing his own Greek myth was excellent and he should be so proud of all he has achieved. Writing can be tricky sometimes, but Callan has really listened and taken on board advice and tips in order to improve. Well done, you are a star Callan!
UKS2
Rose
Rose has been working incredibly hard with her learning and has shown such great determination and resilience. The adults are so proud of the progress Rose has been making and the effort she has been putting into all of her lessons. Rose has shown a brilliant growth mindset, ensuring she keeps trying and doesn’t give up, even when she finds things tricky. She has become more confident, contributing in lessons and sharing ideas within the class. We are so proud of you Rose, keep up the fantastic work!
Lucas
Lucas works incredibly hard in his lessons, in particular English and Maths. In Maths, he always challenges himself and is always looking at ways to improve his work. Lucas tries to find efficient methods to help him solve problems and does not give up, even when he finds things tricky. Lucas has also been working extremely hard in his understanding of adverbs in English. He takes so much care and pride in his work and has really focused on his handwriting; this determination enabled him to receive his pen licence last half term! Lucas is an absolute joy to have in the classroom, keep up the excellent work Lucas, we are so proud of you!
Ethaniel
Ethaniel has worked extremely hard this half term in his English and Maths lessons to make more and more progress. He has been determined to increase his independence and become more fluent with lots of his skills and being able to switch between different types of questions quickly. Ethaniel can find his learning tricky sometimes so to continue to put in effort every day really does take lots of effort. All of his hard work and determination has paid off and Ethaniel achieved amazingly well in his recent Mock SATs tests; he showed amazing progress in his scores from last time. Well done Ethaniel - keep up the hard work!
Hugo
Anyone who knows Hugo knows that ‘competitive’ could be his middle name. There is one person he is more determined to beat than anyone else: himself. Hugo loves the chance to show himself, and others, that he is making progress and is proud of his continued efforts so, when Hugo unfortunately fell poorly just before his Mock SATs, he was gutted! Hugo returned to school as soon as he was well enough and completed all of the papers in his first few days back to school. Not only this, but he had to do it without his friends, making it even harder. However, Hugo being Hugo, took it all in his stride and, not only did he complete his assessments without complaint; he SMASHED THEM! Hugo - I am blown away by how well you have settled back into school - well done you!
William
I apologise in advance, William! I know you’re not a fan of public praise so I’ll keep it brief. You’ve worked so hard to become an incredible writer. Your work is a joy to read and I know that in the future, I’ll be reading my Grandchildren the latest bestseller by William Mabbott. You are a joy to teach!
Isla
Isla has been incredibly resilient in her quest for a pen license. Starting in UKS2, she wasn’t joining letters and would find writing tasks overwhelming. Lots of her friends gained a pen license and even though she really, really wanted one, she would show nothing but kindness and happiness for them. You should be so, so proud of the journey that you have come on, Isla! Not only is your handwriting beautiful, what you are writing is brilliant too. The effort you put into fixing any errors is brilliant to see. Thank you for being an excellent role model to other children, Isla. I absolutely love being your teacher!
Alexandra
Alexandra has really grown in confidence and shown great resilience in regards to her learning over the last academic year. She can now more independently approach much of her work and is keen to join in class discussions, putting her point across in a well thought-out way. She knows where to go and who to ask is she is unsure of anything and the progress in her work is fantastic - all her teachers are rightly proud of the great steps she has taken. Well done Alexandra!
Naomi
It was such a pleasure to watch Naomi grow in confidence and show true resilience as she approached her mock SATs earlier in the month. Naomi wholeheartedly took on the challenge of completing extra papers at home to help build up fluency in different areas of the curriculum and battled on even when things were tricky for her. What amazing results she then got, showing that her determination to give of her best had paid off, with Naomi progressing in all areas. But a special mention has to be given for the full marks she achieved on her arithmetic paper - wow, what a long way you have come since the start of the year! Great work and keep up this great learning attitude.
