Dear Parents and Carers,
We are fully in our assessment zone at Lark Rise and this week saw the start of the assessment period with our Year 6 children completing their Standard Assessment Tests (SATs). I have been so proud of their focus and concentration to date; they are a fantastic cohort of children who have tried their very best throughout the year and this week was no exception. Governors of Lark Rise and members of Chiltern Learning Trust staff visiting to support the invigilating of the tests commented on how smoothly SATs week was run and the exemplary attitudes and behaviour of the children. The children all presented as calm and focused and we cannot ask any more of them than that! Their resilience and determination is astounding and we hope that they can take these attitudes with them as they face new challenges at secondary school. We received a monitoring visit on the last day from the local authority to check our administering of the tests; the visitor that completed this also commented on how calm and focused the children were. We were delighted to reward the children with a trip to Orbital today in recognition of their hard work which they thoroughly deserve. Thank you to all of our parents and carers for the support you have given your child at home in order to make sure they were confident and well prepared for these assessments; your support is hugely appreciated. Finally, a thank you to the whole staff team who all play a part in ensuring the children are well equipped with the knowledge and skills as they move through the school in order to demonstrate what they have learnt during these tests; everyone contributes to this. A special thank you to Mrs Francis and Mrs True along with the rest of the Upper Key Stage 2 team who have supported the children so well this year, both academically and socially, they are an incredible team who always put the needs of all the children first and strive for every child to reach their full potential.
Next week our Year 2 children will be completing some assessments. There is no requirement to report the results of these to the Local Authority any more however we will still be completing these for our own purposes as it helps to assist us in next steps for our children and our internal assessments.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend and I look forward to seeing you next week for the final week before half term; where has time gone!

Each week in our whole school assembly we celebrate children's attendance by playing a game of Attendopoly (based on Monopoly). The class with the highest attendance figure is rewarded with a class prize.
The winning class for the last week was:
Week of 29th April: Parrots & Peacocks Classes with 98.7% attendance
Whole school attendance : 96.4%
Our whole school target attendance for this academic year across all classes is 97%.
We are thrilled to let you know that Miss Gannon gave birth to a beautiful baby boy on Tuesday 14th May weighing 7.5lbs. The family is still deciding on the name but his older brother Max and sister Ella are incredibly proud and giving him lots of cuddles.
We are sure you will join us in sending congratulations to the whole family.

Sports Day will take place on on Thursday 27th June. Timings for the day will be :
EYFS (Ducks, Owls & Robins) : 9.10 - 9.40am
KS1 (Hummingbirds, Parrots & Penguins) : 10.00 - 11.00am
LKS2 (Macaws, Peacocks & Red Kites) : 11.15am - 12.15pm
UKS2 (Eagles, Falcons & Hawks) : 1.30 - 2.30pm
Afternoon Nursery (Ducklings) : 2.40 - 3.10pm.
Parents/carers are welcome to come and spectate at the specified times but you are politely requested to please leave the school site over the lunchtime period.
Please could the children wear an item of clothing to represent the colour of their house (eg children in red house wear a red hairband/t-shirt/socks) as part of their PE kit. All should come into school in their PE kit (and coloured clothing/accessory) on Sports Day.
Please ensure that on days when your child has PE, if they have pierced ears and are wearing earrings, their earrings should be taped over. Ideally it would be better if they did not wear earrings on their PE days but we realise this may not be possible. A reminder also that any earrings worn for school should be stud type only - no hooped earrings. Please also ensure that long hair is tied back on PE days.
Thank you for your continued support.
Next week we will be holding our half termly sports and house assembly. As well as celebrating the winning house and exploring our sports values, we also like to celebrate children's sporting achievements outside of school. If your child has a sporting success that they would like to share with us since the last assembly we hosted in March, then please email over a photo along with the reason for us to share.
Your emails will need to be with us by 9:00am on Wednesday 22nd May in order to be included in the assembly.
The school photographer will be in school on Wednesday 22nd May to take whole class photographs. Children should wear their school uniform on this day including shirts and ties for children in Upper Key Stage 2. If your child has PE on this day, they should come into school in their uniform and bring their PE kit to change at school.
Science Week
Last term, we celebrated Science Week in school; the theme this year was 'Time'. Lots of children took part in the competition at home to create a project in any way they wanted related to the topic of time. All children who entered have won 5 house points. The winners that were announced in assembly last week are:
EYFS - Sofia Zagorianos & Rojus Kavaliauskas
KS1 - Isabella Morley, Jackson Grant & Winter Hughes
