Dear Parents and Carers,
Over the last two weeks there have been some wonderful enrichment opportunities provided for the children which have ensured that the learning has been brought to life and enabled them to develop confidence and character. This week it was Children's Mental Health Week and there was lots happening in school in order to continue to raise awareness around this important topic. Thank you to Mrs Hartley who delivered an assembly around this and spoke to the children to develop their understanding of this important topic. We have raised a total of £255 for CHUMS through our Shine Bright Wear Bright non uniform day.
This week the children in LKS2 enjoyed an immersive day at the Harry Potter Studios. Our social media posts capture this day beautifully, what a wonderful opportunity for our children. Thank you to all of our parents and carers who support on our trips; we could not run them without you.
Our Early Year and Key Stage 1 children were immersed into learning about space when they received a visit from the Wonder Dome. EYFS were also fortunate enough to receive a lesson from Aspens our catering company on making spring rolls linked to their leanring about celebrations and the Lunar New Year. They were delighted to get hands on and put their snipping and rolling skills to the test. What lovely enrichment opportunities for so many of our children this half term!
It was lovely to welcome parents and carers into school last week for Macaws class assembly. The children spoke so well about their learning and it was fantastic to see this showcased for parents; well done everyone!
As a school we were delighted to receive such overwhelmingly positive feedback from our Quality Development Review which took place last week. The review team were impressed with the quality of our curriculum with focus subjects of Writing and Maths. I am beyond proud of the staff for their relentless hard work to ensure all children can reach their full potential and the leaders that we have in place driving improvements across subject areas, especially since we have had a change of leadership. Congratulations to Mrs Hartley, Mrs Francis and Mrs Shilvock who demonstrated outstanding leadership throughout this review.
Finally, we are looking forward to seeing all of our Year 6 children in school after half term at the slightly earlier start time of 8:30am in the run up to their Statutory Assessment Tests. The gates will open at 8:25am for a prompt 8:30am start in the classroom.
I hope that you all get to spend some time over half term with your families and I look forward to seeing you all back in school on Monday 23rd February.
Mrs Romina Lang
Headteacher
Each week in our whole school assembly we celebrate children's attendance by playing a game of Attendopoly (based on Monopoly). The class with the highest attendance figure is rewarded with a class prize.
The winning class for the last couple of weeks was:
Week of 26th January : Hummingbirds class with 98.3% attendance
Whole school attendance : 94.7%
Week of 2nd February : Eagles class with 99.7% attendance
Whole school attendance : 94.2%
Our whole school target attendance for this academic year across all classes is 97%.
Thank you for supporting our non uniform day on Monday - we raised the amazing total of £255 for the CHUMS charity.
Aspens (our school catering company) is offering a special menu for World Book Day (5th March). Unfortunately we cannot add this to the published menu on MCAS so if your child would like to have something off the special menu, they should choose the main meal option advertised on that day.
We would like to remind you that numbers in after school clubs are limited and must be pre-booked via MCAS. If you find you are unable to book a space for your child, this could be that the club is already fully booked and we are unable to increase this due to adult support available.
Please also ensure that if your child is booked into a sports club (eg football) that they have appropriate clothing and footwear to change into as the field is particularly muddy at the moment. Going forward, children will not be able to take part if they are not appropriately dressed and there may be no alternative club for them to take part in.
A reminder that the school gates open at 8.45am every morning and close at 9.00am prompt. After this time, children will be entering the building through the school office and will be marked in the register as "late". Please can you ensure that your child is arriving at school on time as register time is also used for some extra learning activities and to prepare the children for the day.
World Book Day
We are really looking forward to some exciting reading events which we are planning for World Book Day next half term on Thursday 5th March.
This year, children can come into school in their pyjamas or dress up as their favourite book character.
We are running a competition where children can create a model of a book character out of Lego or cardboard. Please send these into school from Monday 2nd March onwards so we can display them in the hall over the week.
The Reading Ambassadors are organising a book swap on Thursday 5th March - books for this can be sent in to school after half term so if you are having a half term declutter please think of us! The books will be at the front of the main entrance on World Book Day and we would love it if everyone could donate a book and take a book.
We are also looking forward to opening our doors to you at the slightly earlier time of 3:00pm to allow you to come in and share a book with your child. A Google form will go out in due course where you can express an interest in our parents and carers 'Stop, Drop and Read' event; we were delighted with the turnout from this last term.
As you know, we have been focusing on our energy usage this term. The children have gained lots of knowledge about the impact of their energy usage and can talk fluently about actions they can take to reduce their energy usage. After half term, our focus theme will be 'Biodiversity' where we hope to develop our school grounds even further.
It is lovely to see that so many children have been enjoying the sustainability book library this term. Well done to Macaws Class who have read the most sustainability books as a class since the library was launched!
Please ensure that you notify the school (via the absence line on the school phone rather than by email) if your child is absent from school for any reason. Please do NOT use StudyBugs to notify absences as this is not a portal we subscribe to and the absence notification may be missed. If we are not notified of the reason for a child's absence, the absence will be recorded as unauthorised and will count against overall school absences for the year, culminating in a fine if a child misses 10 or more sessions (5 days) of unauthorised absence.
